Lack of Advertising Thoughts

Sony seem to be acting really oddly at the moment with advertising, they seem to be focusing more on doing physical events rather than the traditional print and TV advertising.

GT5 has been advertised at many automotive events but I have not yet seen one traditional advert for it and its meant to be out before the holidays! They really are shooting themselves in the foot with the casual audience. Plus that rumored Butler GT5 advert never materialized.

And this dry spell is not only limited to GT5, Sony seem to not been adverting the Move right now at all! They advertised it a bit when it came out but there has been hardly anything in the lead up to xmas. In the other corner you have Kinect which I have seen an advert for at least 5 times every evening.

Robin.

There has been some advertising but really nothing like as much as I would expect. The below was in a UK game magazine out the end of October.

We've also seen photos of them making another We Love Cars commercial with real cars that hasn't been aired yet. Hopefully the flood gates will open soon.

Cool, I haven't seen that print ad, thanks Neal 👍

They need to get some adverts in non gaming mags and newspapers though and start TV advertising in the US and EU. Black Ops was even all over the news (inaccurately calling it the sequel to MW2!)

This is exactly what i was thinking , they are creating an unbelievable amount of hype and obsession with the game that would cause some people to go crazy to the point where it would spread like a disease then they will release it in the blink of an eye causing the gaming world to explode like a nuclear bomb !!

This game is gonna be game of the year people , be ready for it !!!!

Yes very interesting. Also, remember back in E3, microsoft "surprised" people, by not only announcing a new xbox360, but they also made it available for those who attended the show.

So I won't be surprised if Sony made the game available the same day as say the big madrid launch????... Oh baby say it is so!

The game doesn't have a release date. I wouldn't expect them to advertise yet.

Could the lack of advertising be due to the fact that Nov 2 is on it. How many posters and other media stuff needs to be reprinted?
Maybe Sony wants to reshoot the original commercial. This time include snow.

I assume it probably won't be much different than Black Ops in terms of advertisement. I don't remember seeing any advertisement until about a week or two before the game released. Wouldn't surprise me.

A lot of times games are advertised after they are released. Right now, the ones who pre-ordered are more then enough. Whats the point of advertising then? When the pump out more copies there will be more ads to please the casual audience, or the ones who didn't pre-order before hand. Understand?

I actually only started seeing advertisements after release!

This tactic can go both ways... the Dreamcast screwup with Super Sega Saturday was one such occcasion...

They kept playing up the Dreamcast and everyone was all excited, but there was no release date. Then one day they said "You can buy them now!" and it caught everyone with their pants down.

I don't think that a lack of advertising will harm potential sales. Doesn't GT5 cater to a specific audience? I think anybody who's planning to buy it knows about it.

I would second the possibility that GT5 would release without any announcements at all. Reports of distributors and "leaked" retail copies clearly proves the game is being shipped as we speak. Furthermore this huge campaign Sony started for the Nov2 date was so big there's no way they can stop the snowball - example from newly released games having "Gran Turismo 5: Available now" ads inside them.

Sony's probably too busy rolling out their Christmas campaigns to revamp what's already in motion.

PD isn't worried because they've already been paid. By that I mean every game retailer has agreed to carry GT5 - it would be foolish not to sign with distributors to sell GT5 because there's no release date.

The simplest thing to do is to simply ship the game and sell them as they arrive. Seriously, who's lining up??

We are just excited for the game this Christmas, which will happen, evidenced by the leaked games.

If they don't announce the release date, then people wouldn't know about the midnight release...and I don't think Sony or PD want that. The Wall Street Journal had an article on GT5 when the delay happened, and I'm pretty sure they'll have another one when it's released and I can very well see them talk about the huge lines of people who showed up for the midnight launch.

It has to launch with a bang so the momentum for sales can be kept.

I've been wondering... since Top Gear USA premieres on History Channel on the 21st, could it be one of the first TV spots to carry ads for GT5? I don't know how connected it is with the original BBC property, but wouldn't that be a great platform to advertise GT5's eventual release?

I think a 2 second ad on TV saying

GT5
23.12.2013

Will be enough.

And so it begins...

People keep telling me to believe that the game will be out in 12 days.

Without advertising or an actual release date.

Remember how the game was listed in the Target ad, and sears, and toys r us ads? That was because the game was delayed too late for the ads to be corrected.

We're already beyond that point if the game is actually coming out this month. That means the game would release in no ads at all.

Reality is the game's probably not coming out very soon.

And if it's not coming out this month, Sony should have told us that. They've fostered this attitude by not addressing it.

I've never seen anything like this from a game company. Sony's being extremely coy.

And now the announcement that it will be out in...12 days. Very psychic of you.

The campaign will be a shambles, and it serves Sony right.

The only solace I take from this is that the dozens of "insider industry sites" that have announced November 30th as the release date (due to the pre-order info on the U.S. Sony site) will have to back track and explain themselves.

As I (and many others) thought. The release will be the same day as the official Madrid Launch Party. SWEET:)

I'm pretty sure that since they have production costraints, they just want those who follows closely the game to get it first (since there's no need to advertise to them). Meanwhile they will have printed more discs, and will able to advertise, and sell to everyone for christmas time.

So what did everyone think of KB's effort?

So what did everyone think of KB's effort?

the commercial was funny .. till he got to the part where he says

Gt5 was gonna have 500 premium cars ... ofcousre we know now thats not the case ... SC's < sorry number Car's:crazy:

He didn't say premium, he said 500 cars.

maybe they are saving their money for ads right before Christmas..
