I think trees are very important in any game and they should look good. I have been playing the DIRT 2 demo and actually admire the trees...they look AWESOME! So I do hope that the trees in GT5 look good and that the environmental detail is improved even upon GT5P (some work still needed to be done on the environments IMO.)
But what is important is that PD focused on the car models first, THEN the environments. This is a car game and, now that the cars look this great, I'm sure they've polished the environments as well.

It be crazy if PD detailed Carbon absorbed into trees and see them excreting Oxygen. The leaves swaying should be second to that.

Wow those screenshots look freaking amazing! The treees look incredible...almost photo realistic! I really hope they put this much detail in all the tracks and make the trees look THIS good. If you guys don't think trees are important, just look at THOSE screenshots!

That wasn't a picture of Forza 3 you quoted, it was DIRT (or GRID or DIRT 2, they all look the same to me
). The Forza 3 trees shown earlier have shadows. Though I agree there is something weird about the Forza 3 trees, they somehow look 2D even though they aren't (when the camera pans past in the videos you can see they are 3D).Yeah, what I find funny is how people were were being arses to those who wanted nicer trees saying they'd rather PD work on something else and dont want to waste the PS3s resources on trees, then low and behold GT5 has nice trees
At least on the track shown above.Well I guess PD thought trees were important enough to make them look better.

I also played Dirt 2...on my Xbox 360. I decided to get both system, due to the facts that I'm sick of the console war between xbox and ps3. For example, dirt 2 demo was release a few days before the ps3 version was schedule to be available for download. Now I can play it earlier instead of having to wait. And my GT friends, PD has got to do something major changes to the environment details or else they will loose the battle to Dirt 2. If you have Dirt 1 for your ps3, please throw it out the door. Cuz Dirt 2 will eat it up and swallow it in and poop out a fortune coockies with a note saying... "PD your trees still sux." Get your eyes check out GT fans, if you think that the trees in GT series is perfect? Than you don't have a clue of what you are seeing in front of you. I'm just sick of fanboys.
Eversince my first Logitech force feedback steering wheel got all F$%# up I stopped playing Gran Turismo. Eversince that breakdown, I found myself playing other racing games and open up to other racing games beside GT series. And one thing I came to understand, is that all games have a room for improvement. As For Gran Turismo, trees and Sound is my number one find in all GT series. Don't get me started with sounds. They are decend compared to other games.
For those who have not witness the beauty in the environment of Dirt 2, you are going to **** your pants when you get your hands on it. Here I am playing Dirt 2 in my 50" plasma TV and my 1000w surround sound system all hooked up and everything of Dirt 2 is more than I expected to be. I really could have masterbate to this game. Less than 3 weeks to go, I can't hold on this desperation for Dirt2. It's the most beautiful racing game yet... Hopefully Gran Turismo will supprise me as much as Dirt 2 did. Until then please keep this thread alive, LMAO. I still can't believe that there's more than 1 page to this thread.
I can't wait till directX 11 version of Dirt 2 PC version to come out. I'll get it just to see the amazingness of the graphic it'll produce. Triple Cross FireX ATI HD 4890 here I come. Oh, by the way I also have a sick azz gaming PC. Don't just stick your johnson to one hole, get three *&^%#es so you can really be pleasured. All I'm saying is, don't just stick to one thing and call it good. Open up and explore for what is to be offer out there.

@emperorevo8 - Im glad you liked Dirt 2s visuals.. But i didnt. They are an improvement over Dirt 1 but they are not fantastic. I wasnt impressed at all with that game. First i played it with the controller and was turned off. So i pluged in my G25 (Demo only supports 360 degree steering) and found it more enjoyable. Enough to make me think "ill rent this game".
I played it on my 43" Pioneer Plasma with my 7.1 surround sound setup. Replays in that game are cool though. Enjoyed some cool perspectives.
If you get the chance you should see Dirt 2 on a highend PC. Looks brilliant. On the consoles its another story.
But this is all my opinion.

I played the Dirt 2 demo on my Xbox 360 and deleted it after 10mins.
A typical codemasters racing game really, excellent graphics but crap physics and gameplay. Such a shame CM have the F1 licence!
Surely the fact that these pics were taken via pointing a camera at a TV screen has to be taken into account. I think the trees look superb and cannot see any reasons to complain.
