Lack of grip (this game is a joke)

I'm afraid it's the other way around, and tires eventually slide as a result of understeer. One of the biggest misconceptions about under and oversteer is that there isn't any under or oversteer until the tires start to slide. The slide is only the symptom, but understeer and oversteer occur long before the limit of adhesion is reached.
You're talking semantics, you don't get one without the other, whichever way you look at it.

So what you're saying about the BMW understeering at 10 mph is absolutely correct. In steady-state conditions, it understeers at 5 mph, 10 mph, 150 mph, and everywhere in between. I can still be induced to oversteer at any of those speeds depending on brake and throttle input, but in steady-state conditions, the car understeers.
That's what I said :)

Cause and effect are just semantics?!

;)

This is not directed at any person in particular, but to partially quote the title of this thread...... This thread is turning into a "joke.". Everybody has an idea of what oversteer and understeer are - we've had quotes, links, explanations and definitions.

Can we all just move along? To each their own and if people have a misconception of one or the other and they are arguing with your post(s), quit trying to explain it to them as it's obvious they don't/won't get it.

Any time real world driving physics comes up for discussion I generally just read the thread for overall entertainment value. 👍

On topic if the OP is still reading, you're either a) going to fast for the corner or b) not tuned as well as you think it is.

I have an awful problem with the way most of the cars handle when neutral(when not on the brakes and not on the gas). The only real life testing I have is with the '00 Camaro SS, as that's the car I have in real life. I ran at 55-60 mph and crank the wheel to full lock. In real life, the ass end swung out with instant oversteer. In the game, the front tyres slide as the car understeers horribly. Both cars in the game and in real life are 100% stock.

So obviously there the physics aren't correct in this aspect, even though I understand every car isn't a '00 Camaro SS. But I'd say atleast 90% of the cars in GT5 understeer much more than they should compared to real life.

That being said, I think the physics are very accurate under braking and with the power over/understeer.

Understeer IS the description of a state front tire having more slip angle (slide) than the rear.

Understeer isn't a force, it is the outcome, understeer cannot cause anything to slide.

Before you go near the limit of grip (as in everyday driving) you won't have under or over steer. Where'd you learn what you just said??? :dunce:

does anyone else feel the same way about the lack of grip on gt5 ive got a fair few cars now & all tuned & set quite well but i cant understand why there is so little grip for instance an m3 on racing slicks understeering at 60 mph i find a little dissapointing for a game which has taken 5 years to make! PD intsead making pointless updates like stopping car sharing on cars over a million credits try sort the things out that really matter.

Loose nut behind the wheel syndrome. The subject is overwhelmed by GT5 and cant seem to comprehend that suspension tuning, downforce adjustment, and driving style can all play a huge role in the handling of any vehicle. Because the game is hard unlike softer titles the subject resorts to questioning the product and the time it took to develop. The further knocks the developer for making changes they deemed necessary to the overall balance of the game.

You should have stopped after understeering at 60 mph.

Sigh.. Please learn how to tune. Also, recognize that this game is not need for speed hot pursuit. The laws of physics actually apply to this game (for the most part).
