is it just me, or has this series become a joke in gt4? i mean, in gt3 you had to use real pit strategy, careful overtaking, and drafting to eke out a win in every race. in gt4, i'm usually ahead by 40+ seconds everytime i need to pit so i dont need to worry about anything. i would think since the cars are so "evenly matched" this time around that it would have made the races even more challenging. but my car laps these other formulas like theyre subaru 360s. in gt3, i was lucky to get a lead of above 15 seconds at any point in the race. i dont know if ive become an amazingly better driver in the period between 3 and 4, or if pd just made it ridiculously easy after receiving numerous complaints from people playing gt3 who didnt like a race unless it was the equivalent of a 1 pointer. i'm leaning heavily towards the latter. has anyone else experienced this? :yuck:
 
I thought the F1s in GT3 were disappointingly easy - I don't remember ever being behind anyone to have to draft.

I have not yet attempted F1 in GT4 however I have read that it is also a bit easy. I have not yet read a report where min downforce and 200kg ballast was used though.

BTW: any chance of having a slightly more descriptive thread title. 👍
 
I hear you man, actually they are pretty easy. But if you are a hardcore GT player try to enter Formula GT Series with an Audi R8. I know few people who done it. Me? not yet, I will give it a shot when I have time.

nah i think the equivalent of 15 enduros in a row is a little too draining to do more than once.
 
They're easier because you're all using the same car in GT4.
In GT3, it was much harder because the competition ranged from 80's to 90's F1 cars.

Many F1 cars in GT3 were more powerful than others.
That's why it was so difficult in GT3. Different Horsepower levels.

True. Or you can just race it in Arcade Mode, you have an option to drop horse power to -20%, I believe then you should have a fairly intensive race. Give it a try.
 
i think f1 in gt3 was very easy. using the 87 lotus turbo i won very many races. in gt4 i think the f1 sucks. i hate the car. it handles like crap. i'm always going into a corner and then the front just washes out or i lose the rear end. i have won most of the races anyway but the last 6 i havent are very hard. suzuka owned me for a very long time and the ring still owns me.

i entered the bently in the race at the ring once. it wasnt to bad... ended up giving up though because i was running 5th just like always but with less sharp turning.

maybe im just being ridiculous, but i would think that using the same car results in a 250 point race, the hardest race to feasibly win unless you cheat immensely. plus, i was using the f094/h in gt3 which, as far as i know, had the most horsepower.

sure why not. but im not using that damn r8. it's my least favorite lmp since i nearly killed myself trying to beat the s license test on infineon with it. i'll probably use the jaguar and have a ball

I think out of 15 races, the ring definately is the hardest one, because of the bumpy surface and tire wearing issue. I spent 1 day of trying (about 5 hrs) and beat it at the end. I've read some posts saying that you should raise suspension alittle to help you stay on track.
 
the ring in the f1 car is extreamly hard. not so much because of the tires but the damn thing bounces so much it spins on me so easily with no warning. i try all sorts of downforce settings and crap but it just wont work.

How can you get 250 points? Its a max 200 isn't it?
Plus, in GT4, using the same car usually can give you the advantage.
 
and the f094 was just an ok car. i liked the turbo cars and the fo90s. the f686 had the most power. what were they running then 4 bar?
 
I found the lemans cars to be a bit of a challenge in races with lots of corners (unmodified of course) but yeah the F1 GT series is a joke. usually by the end of the race i was on average 1-2 laps ahead of the rest of the field.

The 80's cars had more actual hp. That's why F1 in GT3 seemed so hard, because the older F1 cars would either keep up with you or overtake you at first. But over the course of a long race, the newer F1 would just decimate them.

You have to set your spring rates as soft as possible, with the suspension at medium height to work the F1 at the ring. It works for me.

True... I didn't think he could do it, but I only had to go back in and do five or six races for him the first time. :dopey:

FWIW I did this a couple nights ago. 100kg, took 10 DF off the front to induce understeer (more importantly, it helps neutralize the snap oversteer the F1 seems to have) and brought the Ride Height to Max. Any more weight and I would've had to pit every lap. The AI is running 5'50 normal laps and 6'15 with the pit.

It wasn't that bad. Only notes I had are... throttle carefully through Pflanzgarten. Start around 150 and slowly build to 170. Tap the brakes right before the dip at Ex-Muhle. Stay out of the Karussels (I rode around the top of them rather than dropping in) And have good luck at the left/right before Breidsheid because it's nasty. Hope that helps.

Maybe you don’t know this, but GT4 gives players with some imagination the opportunity to make most race series, including this one, quite challenging. You probably breezed through all 15 races earning 60 A-Spec Point each for a grand total of 900 A-Spec Points.

Try adding 200 kg ballast and limiting your downforce to 134 max. (i.e.: 58 Front / 76 Rear for example) so that you can earn 200 A-Spec Points per race. By applying this handicap to your F1, you will actually have to learn how to tune your car in order to optimize lap times for each and every track, and deal with many more pit stops per race than the AI due to the decreased downforce and the extra weight.

Try this and see if you can manage to win at least one of these lengthy races for 200 A-Spec Points. I will give you a hint....start with Laguna Seca as this is the one (only) track that the AI seems to have lots of trouble negotiating properly.

You can also use an Audi R8 or similar vehicle to earn 200 A-Spec Points per race. I managed to win all 3000 A-Spec Points available in this series by using my imagination, improving my driving and tuning skills, and using a combination of a handicapped F1 and other vehicles. No joke!
 
I still have difficuty with the F1s, despite owning one for a month adn driving it at every opportunity - and I haven't even entered the Formula GT Championship yet.
 
i b-specced most of it, hehe. but where he would mess up i would step in and race for him. the 'ring was definately the hardest.
 
Your right about that, the Formula racing in GT4 isn't all that difficult. I just zip through the races, without a sweat. Even in GT3, it wasnt a real challenge. Well, I'd rather see feirce racing competition than just breezing through the races. PD should make this game much more competitive, and more difficult...will we see this in GT5?
 
I have to agree, I've done the GT4 series twice, first with a stock F1 and won every race but Suzuka by 2-6 laps. Second time with a 100kgs ballast I still won them all but only by 1-4 laps and a couple were < a lap. If I do it again I'll try 200Kgs. But comparing it to GT3: I think GT4 is easier, but not that much. I remember winning all the races in GT3 by at least a lap regardless of which F1 model I used.

One big difference is tire wear. In GT3 I always had to pit before the pack by a lap or two. In GT4 in some races I can last a lap or more longer than the pack (Sarthe, the oval track Motegi?), and some I pit earlier than the pack. A BIT more realistic, I guess...

The game is plenty difficult... the key difference is that YOU get to choose the level of difficulty rather than having PD *force* it on you. It's quite obvious that PD chose to dumb down the AI for the express purpose of reaching a wider audience, while still allowing someone who wants more competition to create it.

Granted, the tools to create competitive races could be *drastically* improved.

yes...but s license is not as hard as people make it out to be. even if you mess up kind of bad as long as you do "ok" youll get a bronze
