This it disappointed, but no really big deal. I waited one year for the PS3 since it was announced, 2 weeks are nothing:sly:

Luckily I'm not too bothered with Lair. It was only ever going to be a rental. I'm waiting for Bioshock to come out. Reviews so far have rated it highly.
I will try Lair, but I know my brother will hate it (we usually share games) because he can't get to grips with the motion sensing malarky!

A clock and Super Stardust anyone?

Hell yes.

Eh, I'm disappointed as well, but it's just a drop in the bucket when you look back and was supposed to be playing this two months ago.

Heavenly Sword was delayed a week as well as to not make Lair the Shadowrun of the PS3 (bombs because a far more popular product is released the same day), so I guess that's good looking from Factor5.5's perspective.

The thing I don't get at all is that the game went gold several days ago. Why would they delay this 3 weeks (sorry, my math sucked in my previous post, cut me slack)... because of online features that can be fixed with a patch? There's a deeper problem here.

Come on, guys, it's f'ing awesome!

Another new sample is up as well as a new screenshot.

Yes, and thanks for the links! 👍

The developers for both Lair and Heavenly Sword appear to be putting a great deal of thought and effort behind the musical scores, which is not what you can say for most games, even epic story telling games.

It used to be the only really top-notch musical scores in games came from those made after a movie, and they simply adapted the scores from the films to the games. It's nice to see game developers who understand the importance of a quality original score.

All I ask is that they always give me the option in games, especially racing games, to turn the music off while playing. However in games like Lair and Heavenly Sword, I suspect I'll enjoy listening to some epic musical scores playing in the background. :)

Music does have an amazing effect on the mood of a game as well. For instance, Lair, with the music that Duck posted, will feel really dramatic, and mideval. But if you played some rock music to it, it would feel like a modernized version of the game. I love music.

Yeah, the music definitely has that feel to it, but I'm also getting a lot of Star Wars vibes. Granted, the game is basically Rogue Squadron in a different universe (flying stingray things exploding, using a tow cable to take down elephants, etc), but still. It sounds very nice...

Anyway, here's a review roundup now that more have been coming in:
  • Play – 9
  • EGM – 6.0/5.5/5.0
  • Gamer.tv – 3/5
  • PlayStation World – 8
  • GamePro – 3.75/5

Well, there's always IMDB...

Actually, I thought there was definitely a pinch of MechWarrior 2 in there, as well as Star Trek VI. But, none the worse for either.

Tons of new Lair screen shots:

and you know what, to hell with the punks at EGM, what a bunch bias hairy crackheads. They may not like the gameplay because they're too lazy to give the game one more try, but look at those screenshots, this game's graphics deserve at least 9/10. I'll get this game regardless of the reviews (except those from GTP members:)💡)

Did they piss in your cereal? It's OK to disagree with EGM's scores, but it's not OK to throw out immature insults at them. 👎

I still call them a bunch of bias hairy crackheads:)

Warhawk could have gotten 1 full point more for every $10 they took off the price :sly: As for Lair its seems to be a growing trend to give out average scores. On a positive note its a good thing Sony doesn't hype their games so there isn't much to live up to. Then again it could be a bad thing. Maybe sales would double if we had a Lair sponsored Spicy Dragon Flame Double Whopper 👍

Heh. Warhawk does have its flaws and it probably should've been $30 downloadable, but even still it doesn't deserve a 6.5 at all.

True. I'm not implying Sony is ignoring Lair, but after they delayed it 3 weeks after it had gone gold for leaderboards, sandwiching it right between 'Hawk and Heavenly Sword, and when they didn't mention it at all in their E3 conference... I'll have to raise my eyebrows. And the scores it's getting from a 9 and 8 from Play and PSW to the 7.5, 6.0/5.5/5.0, and 5 in GamePro, EGM, and now PSM... something is fishy in River City. I'm definitely renting this one first.

Are you going to call PSM biased hairy crackheads now?

5.0/10, that's a average score, so you can have high score for graphics, and crap score for gameplay, value, presentations...ect, and I am ok with that.

but

6.0/5.5/5.

if one of those 3 is score is for the graphics, I'll still call the dudes at EGM a bunch of bias hairy crackheads.

The 6.0/5.5/5.0 are review scores from three separate EGM staff members, not graphics/sound/gameplay.

So, for example, Guy #1 gave Lair a 6.0 average. Guy #2 gave it a 5.5 average, Guy #3 gave it a 5 average, etc.

Its just suspicious to me, its relatively hard to get a score that low, Especially with an exclusive game that has had so much work put into it...

Green Influenced/Bias?

One more reason not to get too worked up over reviews... but we can count on Duck to dig up the bad ones for us. ;)

There's only about 5 reviews of Lair available at the moment, so I'm not trying to cherrypick crap reviews. And if I was trying to cherrypick, explain to me why I reported PSW giving it an 8.

And if you're going to rebuttal with "but you posted up a scan so you intentionally wanted to give it more spotlight", that was a response to Kenji calling EGM "hairy crackheads", and I posted a scan so he wouldn't disregard it under the basis of no proof.

GameInformer – 7.25 (8.0 second opinion).

They say graphics and sound are amazing, they do the usual LOTR comparison, has a few "moments of brilliance", etc. Main gripe is the controls. Here's what they say about them:

What it all boils down to, however, is you feeling foolish to be a part of these epic events - mostly because a dragon that flew this poorly would never be allowed to participate in battle, it would be back in the village pulling a plow in the fields or doing stupid tricks for scraps at the bar.-- Reiner

While the motion controls for flight are unique, they're also the weakest aspect of the title - it was several hours into the game before I felt like I had a firm handle on moving around.-- Miller

I think the motion control is dividing opinion. If that is the case then it's a little unfair to judge Lair too harshly as it's simply re-affirms the reviewers prejudice towards the Sixaxis motion control. I mean, I feel slightly embarrassed using it on the Folk Soul demo so if I were to play Lair.... But that's my prejudice.
I'd like to play a demo before shooting it down. Still I never thought it'd get more than 8's in general though the 5 from one mag I feel is really too low. It can't be THAT average, can it?

I might have to rent this soon (once I pass my warhawk frenzy) I would hope the delays were for the addition of other controller options... It seems like developers are finally realizing that SIXAXIS controls are not really cut for main controls (warhawk at least) but once games like MGS4 come out I think we will see more games using them more as secondary controls (like extra buttons)

I don't think they were added or patched in.

IMO with the Sixaxis motion controls, they're fine for small, dedicated uses, and sometimes even for small downloadable games, but forcing it onto a major game isn't. I think shaking off Chimera in Resistance or capturing a soul in Folklore with the motion controls is really cool, and they're nice for cheap, simple games like Super Rub a Dub or fl0w, but having it as the method for movement in far more complex games like Warhawk and Lair invokes a DO NOT WANT from me. Obviously, Wii games are an exception, and if done right they really enhance the game (like with Zelda and reportedly with Metroid Prime 3).

Nonetheless, I'll be renting Lair. Hopefully I'll like the controls...

Holy crap!

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/817/817117p1.html

It got a 4.9.

4.9! Just let that sink in for a moment.

I do think Lair scored too low in some places (and in the overall score) – namely the sound and graphics (7.5 for graphics and an 8.0 for sound? LOL), and sub 5 scores for IGN are reserved for the crappiest of the crap (Gundam Crossfire, Sonic)... but nonetheless, it's getting panned by many places for its gameplay and controls.

Lair just seems like a game where you either love it or hate it.

Further proof I need to rent this first.

Adding it up the scores ave. is 6.7. Far more reasonable than 4.9.

Edit: If people complain enough we could get a patch.
