Lamborghini is expected to show off a new car at the Pebble Beach Concours behind close doors very soon.

Currently, not much is known, except for the following:
1. The car will be worth $1,625,000.
2. 20 will be made; 7 in the US, 7 in Asia, 6 in Europe.
3. All have been spoken for; The owners have put down a $100,000 deposit.
4. Only the US despositers have seen the car; can not say anything about it. Very tight contracts.
5. The public will not get to see it in Monterey.
6. CEO Winkelmann will give the presentation to the buyers.

Right now, that's all that is known. It will not be the Miura, and the only speculation is that it is an equivalent of the FXX/MC12 Corsa/Zonda R, however none of these are confirmed facts.

Wait and see next week.

It doesn't seem likely that Lamborghini would make a totally new car and only sell 20, unless they planned on using it as a "concept" to possibly put into productin much later. However, the $1.6 million price tag could indicate that they are trying to cover development costs as quickly as possible; the car would definitly cost much less if there was going to be a reasonable run of them. I'm sure it doesn't cost $30 million to develop a car, though.

My guess would be a souped-up version of a current car. Possibly a track car. Or maybe a Veyron competitor, which might be cool.

My only guess is that it is a restyled Murciélago, probably similar to the GT version, probably with twin-turbos, and more carbon-fiber than the entire McLaren F1 team.

...Just my guess...

I'm interested. I've been waiting for Lamborghini to go back to building absolutely crazy cars again...

maybe they are creating a car for some of those racing series which needs you to make 20 cars or something?

It's really hard to know which is which from the facts being presented, but....
Monterey will have a small model. Frankfurt will be the full unveiling.

The company has been following the Raptor (fighter jet) for inspiration, but Lamborghini has been using jets as inspiration for years.
This isn't exactly clear, but according to the presentation for the buyers, it will be a fighter jet grey, and have a dark green interior (:yuck: ). Not entirely sure if that's final.
It is road legal.

This article is also of particular interest (nothing confirmed of the design here).

The car will be based on the LP platform which means it will retain the classic scissor doors while everything else will be new. It's also apparent that 10 will hit US shores, and there is a waiting list of 12 people behind the original 20. According to the buyer @ Fchat, the instrument panel "is insane", and delivery begins next year. And as I understand it, it'll cost $300,000 to put yours into immediate production ahead of others. It is not a "Veyron" at all, though.

That thing will probably just be a miniature, carbon-fiber spaceframe, diamond-encrusted version of a Murcielago pedal-car.

They already have the Murcielago homologated for FIA GT purposes, if that's what you mean.

The car in that article looks like a photoshopped Murcielago. Due to the cost, I don't belive this car will be all that similar to any current car.

yeah but why make only 20 of them ?

Lamborghini has been preparing for a brand new supercar and since this will use the LP platform with major alterations, it's more than likely the last model of the "Murcielago" before an entirely new model hits in 2009.

I'd be suprised if it was a Murcielago variant with it costing as much as it is slated to. For that price it should be a seperate model at the very least.

I think it's great that Lambo is putting together a car that will challenge the very high end of the top marques. But at the same time, I'm disappointed that they're doing an "invite-only" purchase. It's just so arrogant.

1.6 mil to drop on a 'modified' Murcielago? I wouldn't do it. I hope it isn't, though.

For the price I'd hope it was, for it being a Lamborghini I'd hope it wasn't, but your concerns are safe as Lamborghini have already dismissed such rumours. I'm hoping it's something insanely fast around a track, we know it will be road legal, which is good, I'm not interested in these non-road legal supercars, why not just order a GT spec race car instead. You can probably buy them for less as well. Mind you, they'd take more care to keep running I guess. I just really hope that it isn't a top of the range Murcielago, because it's far too expensive to be a Murcielago no matter how good it is imo.

It's just so arrogant.
It's Lamborgini. The entire company was founded on arrogance.

Maybe it is a Murcielago made out of gold? Though even based on my terrible, quite a few libetries taken math I can only get the price of the Murc up to $986,000.

$1.6 mil, eh? I can't speak for the current customers, but for that money it better have real gold paint, mink upholstery, and an ass massager in the seat.

The Veyron has none of those things and yet you have the option of buying one for more than this.

If by "more" you mean "200,000 less," then yes.
philly cheese
VAG already has that "segment" covered...
Which is exactly why they would do it again. They have 3 911 Turbo competitors, for crying out loud, despite being owned by Porsche.

I said you have the option of buying one for more than this. There's a $400,000 option to get to the front of the production line.

One thing I've noticed about Lamborghini owners is that, once they get through snorting all their cocaine, all they can do is complain about Ferrari and talk about how Lamborghinis are better than Ferraris.

Compare this to Ferrari owners who are barely aware of Lamborghini's existence and rarely have bad words to say about their "rivals."

And yet I've never seen anyone do that at FChat, Lambo-Talk or LamboPower.

Hmm...if they hate Ferrari so much, why do so many own a Ferrari on the side.

Internet forums are dedicated to enthusiasts that love their car for the sake of driving it, they've all checked their arrogance at the door.

Although I've never had any experience with Lamborghini owners, I've got a lot of experience with every level of Ferrari owner. I'm going to go against what Doug said, because I'm sure if you sat down in almost any Ferrari's passenger seat and told them "prove to me why I shouldn't be considering a Porsche" they'd thrash the hell out of that car. And I'm not talking about owners of cars that I've stopped and chatted with after taking a a picture for the DYSAGT thread.

So very true, although I'm sure almost anyone would do that. If you sat in my car and asked me why you shouldn't get the Mercedes instead of the BMW, I suppose I would "trash the hell out of it".

It's always just a case of people being "loyal" to their manufacturers.

It's much more than that with Ferrari owners.
