yep... thats ashame. Subaru arent doing so hot either. Mitsubishi better get back in the rally game ;)

Rally races are pretty fun to watch especially all those crashes.

I have a question for you guys. I have a friend with an Evo and he was talking about getting a misfireing system. Can you explain what that is? Also, what do turbo timers do?

I believe that misfiring system are illegal. Its like an anti lag system in a way. I have read that it is illegal but dont know where. Im sure they are illegal everywhere. Bang-bang (also known as ALS which stands for Anti-Lag System) is an engine management technique that allows to minimize the turbo lag time.
When the driver lifts his foot from the gas pedal the ignition timing is altered with sometimes 40° or more of delay (retard) and the intake air and fuel supply mixture is made richer. The inlet butterfly is kept slightly open or an air injector is used to maintain air supply to the engine. This results in air/fuel mixture that keeps getting in the combustion chambers when the driver no longer accelerates. The ignition being delayed, the air/fuel mixture reaches the exhaust tubes mostly unburned. When the spark plug fires, the exhaust valve is starting to open due to the ignition delay mentioned above. Additionally, the exhaust temperature being extremely high, the unburned fuel explodes at the contact of the exhaust tubes. Luckily the turbo sits right there and the explosion keeps it turning (otherwise it would slow down since its intake, the exhaust gases, is cut-off). The effect is vastly lower response times with some downsides.

Turbo timer is the basic accepted concept of cooling the turbo in your engine, is to allow your turbo to cool off properly when you stop the car, by feeding it a steady stream of fresh oil, and thus likely preventing coking of the bearings (gunk buildup). Most manufacturers of turbo-charged vehicles recommend idling your car after you get where you're going, for at least 30 seconds, longer if you have really been boosting it. A turbo timer allows you to stop the car, park it, remove the key and lock the door, while a small timer device keeps your engine running for a pre-set period of time.

"The ignition being delayed, the air/fuel mixture reaches the exhaust tubes mostly unburned. When the spark plug fires, the exhaust valve is starting to open due to the ignition delay mentioned above. Additionally, the exhaust temperature being extremely high, the unburned fuel explodes at the contact of the exhaust tubes. " in my post above.

You might not always see fire but you will hear the big banging noise is which why i think its illegal. Too loud

NP ;)

The next Skyline GT-R will have a Anti lag system. Im not sure on how it will work. There has been diagrams and picture shown how in japanese but i cant read japanese.

Sorry for those Newb questions.

the EVO RS is the stripped down version of the EVO. the EVO 8 RS is avaliable wherever EVOs are sold including here in america right now. RS stands for Rally Sport from what I understand. just think of the RS as the STi Spec C. just the stripped down version. no A/C CD player or any electronic crap and it just so happens that it is cheaper because of all the extra crap wass taken off. me being in the south though, I couldn't live without A/C because we see temperatures above 100 degrees daily in the summer. I belive the highest I saw last summer was 125 degrees. so A/C is a necessity or having power to get you up to speed to make the manual A/C work(windows down going fast). that is why Mitsu offered the urban jungle package which I belive has A/C, ABS, and other cheeky electronic garbage.

for all you other EVO fans, I think you might enjoy this. http://media.mitsubishi-motors.com/pressrelease/e/products/detail992.html

enjoi.

rock.

also, someone commented on how they sound. if you watch the WRC, when the drivers let off the accelerator, you will hear these loud popping noises. that is an anti-lag system and how it sounds. I belive they aren't street legal because most of the time, flames fly out of the tailpipe and you can't have flames flying out of the tailpipe every time the light turns red or when you make a turn. so that is probably why they are illegal.
