Hey, I was wondering if someone could please do us all a huge favor. I've been dying to find this out how the lap times compare between GT3 and GT4 but nobody seems to be talking about it. So can one of you please do it? I was thinking you should probably use Trial Mountain because that track doesn't seem to have been changed as much as some of the others. So I guess the key will be trying to find an identical car from each game. And I was thinking it'd be ideal to be in the 200-350hp range--so maybe a stock RX-7 or a Speed 6. Try to pick an FR car if you can because that might be the best compromise. And when you go for broke, don't use ASM or TCS because I wouldn't want those to mess up the results.

But if this idea sounds good to you but not the chosen track/car/settings, feel free to change it however you want. You are the one doing all the hard work after all. :)

Thanks in advance!

I'am afraid the times will be skewed since some of the tracks have been widened and will affect the times(HSR not in GT3 but still and Trial Mountain even Grand Valley by one of Egghead's vid it looks even wider.) :nervous:

Hmm, I've never though of this, it would be nice to see some comparisons 👍. I'm thinking that GT4's might be a bit slower, but I have no way of knowing as I don't have the game.

I'm most interested in lap times with equal cars on laguna seca in both versions considering how PD boasts how accurate the new track model is.

My copy should arrive in 3 days.

I am also curious to test that.

BTW, anyone who does not wants to test something, as an excuse to play GT, surely is not a real fan. :)

Judging by eggheads vid Deep forest looks alot more dragged out than it was in GT3 i loved that track as it was, have to wait and see how it plays now. I cant imagine getting what used to be good times on Gt3 on GT4 at all

Most tracks are actually thinner - Grand Valley notably so. Laguna Seca has been radically altered (for the better, I should add) and, unless the F1 cars are markedly quicker, I doubt we'll see laptimes anywhere near the old Laguna Seca.

What are your thoughts on Trial Mountain? Ever since I saw that first video from the November demo I've been a little worried about being reunited with my old friend. All the videos I've seen definitely make it look wider just about everywhere. Part of me thinks it's because there are a lot less lines and markings on the road but I'm just not sure.

Any thoughts?

I think trail mountain looks very similar its deep forest which looks quite different i think

I noticed i will not be able to get sub one minutes on midfield as easily. the S bend that you could laways go through at full throttle has become sharper and its a much harder turn to navigate. It cuts a few seconds off. i haven't gotten any really fast cars yet so its hard for me to tell yet. leguna seca has also undergone some changes, and going off the track is not really an option as there is like 40 feet of sand to trek through to get back onto the track ! it also seems a few of the tracks have gotten skinnier as Famine stated. later-

I wouldnt say they are skinnier becouse you could park the same amount of cars on thr track as before. I would say they are longer in lengh

Like Famine said Laguna is very different, as is grand valley and deep forest - all for the MUCH better. Midfield and Trial Mtn. are both slightly different, a few corners reprofiled. Even SS5 is different.

You can't ride the curbs as much as GT3, like you see the fast OLR guys do. They "bite" more in GT4. Places were we all got used to using the curb in GT3 have changed.

Tracks are narrower, there are new profiles to corners and even more elevation changes.

Apricot Hill, a track I test on since I know it so well and love it, always did in GT3 and have been testing new cars in GT4 there, It is a good comparrison because it is one of the few GT3 tracks that hasn't been altered in any real way.

In GT4 at Apricot I'm on average a few seconds slower in cars that are the same between GT3/4, using "sport" tires. I'll look back and try to find some times later today. Figure 4-6 seconds per lap slower in GT4, from memory.

Thanks, that's exactly what I'm looking for.

It's an interesting idea but even if you found a GT4 circuit and GT3 circuit that were close to identiacal without changes would the improved physics of the cars slow the lap times down? as the game is a bit more demanding to play, and because of the points raised like reduced ability to bang over the kerbs.

The only other circuit I can think of atm is the Monaco track which may not have been re profiled?

Apricot Hill is 99% identical between GT3/4, even the curbs (most Gt4 circuits have higher curbing that isn't as car friendly as GT3) your best bet for direct comparisons.

Monaco...the tunnel complex is slightly different, tighter radius corner in the tunnel and less of a downhill out. Plus it seems alot smoother.

Trial Mountain seems pretty close, other than cosmetically...curbing is a bit more brutal and the rock walls in the canyon section don't "bite" as much in GT4.

DF, SS5, GV and Laguna are all much different, all for the better IMO. Even the rally courses have had work done on them. Tahitti maze still gives me a headache too.

wow, and GT3 was already senior slow compared to GT2 (maybe beacause of the smooth graphics?) so that feel of speed in GT4 must suc.k

p.s. special license, midfield, penzoil nismo, gold time:

GT2: 1:03,100
GT3: 1:11,000

that's 8 seconds on same test, same track, same car!!!

Nope, lnasphinx, the feeling of speed is maybe the most improved thing about GT4 on a tech side of things, just wait until you have to do the last licence test???

Just from vids, it looks like GT4 has a better sense of speed than GT3.You can really only tell this from vids from your normal driving view, which is what I saw. I don't know, cuz I still have to wait until February 22, but it looks better.

judging from GT4:P, i can tell that with standard cars, it no longer is "dull" :)

I loved deep forest as it was, i hope they havnt messed with the last turn as it was my fav attack corner.

This was the first track I tried and that last corner is more fun now than it was with GT3. thanks to the dfp. I still took the corner the exact same way as I did in GT3, but it just seems a bit easier.
