R.I.P. Olds. . . It has been real, it has been fun, it has not been real fun. . . PEAZE OUT

Oldmobile used to be the company of innovation. There was the Toronado, FWD beast, the use of alcohol injection (or Rocket fuel, whatever) in a street car. Even in the '80s and early '90s there were some cool Oldsmobiles, like the Hurst G-bodies (although I'm pretty sire these were saddled with a anemic 403--or did they have chevy engines?). And the early 90's Aurora was a very cool styling statement.

It was a victim of GM stupidity. I'll miss it.

My grandfather was a die hard Olds man. I always saw them as an old man's car, like Buick. But I did own a 1972 Delta 88 with a rocket 350. That's the only car I ever owned that could smoke the tires. I'll sorta miss Olds, more than Plymouth anyway.

My dad owns a 1983 Olds Delta 88. Everything on it is pretty much original except the engine. Its had a couple engines in there since he got it. Me and my mom have a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera. This car too has had a couple engines in it since we got it.

I have an 01 Alero. I'd love to own a Collector's Edition. Shame. :(

Our family has owned 4 Olds total.

About damn time. Chrysler did away with Plymouth in a matter of weeks; it's taken General Motors three years to do the same for a company that was even worse and had even less vision.

 The best part of this is logging on to the Oldsmobile website. The first image that loads asks "Have you considered other GM brands?" with pictures of several models from the other brands.

It took Plymouth nearly 2 years before the Prowler and Voyager became a Chrysler.

They just waited with Oldsmobile until each generation was at the end of it's build cycle anyway (with except of the new Bravada). Oldsmobile's sales had been on the increase even before they announced it's death.

It would have been much better to kill off Buick.

By whose estimate? Since the day they were redesigned to the day they were absorbed?

Maybe - but I bet the Rendezvous saved Buick.

Incidentally, "Buick Bravada" sounds much better than Oldsmobile Bravada, Oldsmobile Rainier, or Buick Rainier.

From when they announced the phasing out of Plymouth to when they started putting Chrysler badges on the vehicles. The Prowler was technically the last car built bearing a Plymouth badge before they became Chryslers in I believe 2001.

That British lady to the head of Oldsmobile, "You are the weakest link, Good-bye!"

This brings 1 great thing for me. Lou Fusz Mazda-Subaru also has Olds(I just didn't mention them before because, well, I don't like to admit that I have to work with em), so when all of the cars sell(if...) then there will be more Subarus in the showroom and it'll look good not having 3 Subes and 3 olds(ofcourse the Mazda showroom(which is just a wall away from the Sube-olds) is pretty big and has 6 or so cars).

Here's my list of next up to die:
Buick
Mitsu
Mercury
Chevy Aveo :)

I didn't know until this morning that Olds was the oldest American car manufacturer.

I also heard someone say if it was called Yougsmobile it'd probably still be in business.

Oldsmobile used to have the #1 selling car in America only 20 years ago. It's GM's restructuring that led to it's demise.

Their current generation of cars was great, especially for GMs. Almost no one can argue that the first generation Aurora was one of the most underrated sedans in the last decade.

Yeah I don't know what LM is talking about. Oldsmobiles were good cars. They had image problems, hence one of their last PR campaigns: "Not your father's Oldsmobile."

2001 was the last year for the Plymouth Prowler, but I don't believe the announcement of the loss of the division came in 1999.

Mercury
Chevy Aveo

Mercury is absurd - it's a great brand. Ford's got no plans to cancel it, nor should they.

Likewise, the Chevrolet Aveo, particularly in 5-door form, is a wonderful small car. What's wrong with it?
