UK CHARTS: NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND 2 TAKES POLE POSITION

EA's sequel in the driving seat

11:43 EA's Need for Speed Underground 2 has taken the number one spot in the ChartTrack-compiled ELSPA UK All-Formats Chart this week (week ending November 27), moving up from last week's second place and knocking previous champ GTA: San Andreas down to number two.
At three is EA's FIFA 2005, climbing three places from six, and there's more football madness at four with Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 4, another climber this week moving up from eighth position.

Master Chief's second coming Halo 2 suffers a small drop this week, falling from four to five, while THQ holds sixth and seventh places with WWE Smackdown vs. RAW and The Incredibles respectively. No doubt thanks to the movie, The Incredibles has shot up from last week's number 16.

Sony's The Getaway: Black Monday drops from seven to eight, Half-Life 2 plunges from three to nine and EA's The Urbz: Sims in the City hangs on in there at number ten, dropping one place from last week's nine.

Slightly disappointing performances from EA's GoldenEye: Rogue Agent and Sony's Killzone on first entry into the chart, the former coming in at number 11, the latter number 12.

nah ive played nfsu2 and its the same as nfsu, gets very repetitive and if youve played nfsu then you probably wont be bothered to finish nfsu2 properly.
 
Exactly. I mean, if we all thought Halo 2 would be good competition for San Andreas, and that dropped off, then I don't expect NFSU:2 to keep its position.
 
It's not a PS2 game, simple as. Plus most people who wanted it pre ordered :D

Sad when crap like fifa does better better then hl2 and halo 2 :(. Welcome to gaming today.
 
it will be interesting to see next weeks list as the hype for NFSU2 will be finished.
 
It's not really sad. Soccer is the biggest sport in the world. Doesn't surprise me that much, plus those games are gaining more and more popularity each time around.

I also can't believe the way Halo 2 has dropped. I expected Half-Life 2 to drop, but not Halo 2. I think code_kev hit the spot with his take on the pre-orders. Most people who wanted it pre-ordered it. Then the sales dropped dramatically.
 
No as much, Halo 2 beat it I believe. But there just must be more fans or people looking to see what all the talk about GTA is. There are a lot more PS2 owners, so pretty much most people with a PS2 will want to get this, even if they know nothing about the GTA series.

It's the best game ever produced in my eyes. Although, it's hard to outstand games like Mario.
 
yeah but the Mario games cheated with there sales :lol:, they got bundled with the SNES, and they counted that as selling. How come hardly any machines have games bundled with them now?

Also i think GTA SA will be number 1 for christmas
 
But Mario is a classic, and it deserves a top spot amongst games, I believe.

Also, I also agree on the GTA San Andreas top spot for christmas. There should be a lot of people getting this for Christmas, although, the majority of people that play this are a little older, and are able to get the money for the game themselves before Christmas. It will certainly be interesting to watch. I predict Halo 2 rising back up a bit over Christmas. ;)
 
Also, GTA games are slow burners. Even though they blast into the games charts, they've a tendency to hang around in the top ten for months or even years later. Both GTA III and Vice City were top ten sellers up to six or twelve months after their release.

I also remember that on gamefaqs.com, Vice City was still on the top ten most requested FAQs list, TWO YEARS after it's release, just before San Andreas came out. That just shows you not only how long it remains a top seller, but how long people continue to play it for.

Sa will be played a lot more than VC in my opioin. its has a way longer life span
 
Definately, as the next GTA won't be until a year or even more after PS3 comes out. It will be very interesting to see how long it stays in the Top 10.

UK CHARTS: NEED FOR SPEED STILL LEADING THE PACK

Every boy racer's favourite game injecting sales with nitrous oxide while GTA stays strong at 2

13:27 Noticed a lot of Novas parked around your local games shop recently? EA's Need For Speed: Underground 2 has floored the throttle and managed to hold onto the number one slot in the ChartTrack-compiled ELSPA UK All-Formats Chart this week (ending December 4).
Rockstar's GTA: San Andreas is still stuck in second position. It'll be interesting to see if Need For Speed can keep its momentum up in the two weeks before Christmas to hold onto pole position, or if continuing strong sales of GTA will reclaim the top spot.

Outside of the top two FIFA 2005 remains at three, closely followed by THQ's The Incredibles. The Disney/Pixar tie-in has shot up the charts from seven like a speeding bullet, no doubt thanks to thousand of screaming little nerds pestering their poor, unappreciated parents for it.

EA's other big titles in the run up to Christmas are having mixed success. Goldeneye: Rogue Agent's negative press reception seems to have been kept undercover from gamers as it climbs four spots from 11 to seven, while the Urbz drops one place to 11.

Two new entries make their presence felt: Call of Duty: Finest Hour, the console version of the hit PC FPS, storms in as the highest new entry number at five, while Ubisoft's awesome Prince of Persia: Warrior Within debuts at a slightly disappointing 13.

Both of the recent console FPS big-hitters have slipped, with Microsoft's Halo 2 dumping three places from five to eight and Sony's Killzone dropping to 15 from 12. Half-Life 2 has slipped ten spots back to 19 and looks likely to disappear from the top twenty next week.

Finally, the fastest climber of the week is Sega's superb collection of EyeToy games, Sega Superstars. Apparently some retailers are selling it at bargain prices, helping it to shoot from 21 to 14.

Only a few weeks until the Christmas number one is crowned. Keep it here for the latest on the most interesting chart battle of the year.

interesting, GTA SA is still number 2, halo2 and hl2 are slippin bigtime, I dont think NFSU2 will last as long as GTA SA though.

UK CHARTS: NEED FOR SPEED SHOWS NO SIGNS OF SLOWING

Only one week left before the Christmas number one is revealed!

11:39 EA may have flooded the Christmas market with titles but judging from this week's chart only one of their babies is in with a chance of becoming the festive number one.
Need For Speed: Underground 2 is flying off store shelves as fast and furiously as the action it offers and sits on top of the pile in the ChartTrack-compiled ELSPA UK All-Formats Chart this week (ending December 11).

The gang-banging juggernaut that is GTA: San Andreas continues to go bumper to bumper with Need For Speed, sticking to its tail lights in second place and waiting for the modified racer to hit a oil patch.

But competition is growing behind the front two. The multi-format Call of Duty: Finest Hour climbs up two places to number three, and THQ's The Incredibles holds fast in the number four position - supported not by a massive advertising campaign, but by one of the movies of the year that's packing them in at the multiplexes.

FIFA 2005 falls away from the festive race slipping down to five but the highest climber of the week is Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, it debuted last week at number 13, this week it reaches number six. This looks like a series that's finally found an appreciative audience.

The rest of the pack are supported by some massive TV advertising campaigns, notably Goldeneye: Rogue Agent and The Getaway: Black Monday, are popular sequels or provide some festive novelty such as Eye Toy: Play 2 and Sega Superstars.

Remember there's only one week left before the Christmas number one is revealed and the race this year looks set to be one of the closest ever.

I'm not expecting it to drop off until just after Christmas. Quote the list anytime after December 26th, and then we'll see. If Need For Speed: Underground 2 still has the top spot, I'll be surprised.

well nfsu2 eh, its holding up good. at least GTA SA hasnt moved either, the number 1 spot for christmas is heating up
 
Every Tuesday Small_Fryz... That's when it gets posted up... so that's when I copy it over!!

I'd imagine that a lot of the sales at the mo are for Christmas presents though... next week will decide the Xmas No.1 but I probs won't be around to post it up!!

UK CHARTS: NFS UNDERGROUND 2 SCOOPS XMAS NUMBER ONE

EA's series takes Christmas top spot for second year in a row

14:46 Christmas Day beckons, turkey, sherry, chestnuts roasting on an open fire and a mountain of indigestion cures are the apples in everyone's eyes.
However, before the ridiculous indulgences of the near-year-end commence, let us pause for a moment to reflect on the ELSPA Christmas UK All-Format videogame chart (week ending December 18), the ChartTrack-compiled listing revealing that EA has taken the Xmas number one spot for a second year in a row with the sequel to last year's Chrimbo top dog, Need For Speed Underground 2.

Rubbing up against NFS Underground 2's rear bumper is non-mover Rockstar's GTA: San Andreas at number two, while Activision's Call of Duty: Finest Hour (another non-mover this week) at number three is proof that we have yet to reach saturation point where World War II first-person shooters are concerned.

At four is The Incredibles, yet another non-mover this week, as are EA's FIFA 2005 and Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: Warrior Within which lie at five and six respectively.

Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 4 is a climber, moving up from nine to seven, while EA's GoldenEye: Rogue Agent drops from seven to eight this week and Sony's The Getaway: Black Monday falls from eight to nine. At ten is The Simpsons: Hit & Run (Platinum), which has moved up from last week's 13.

UK CHARTS: GAMERS STILL FEELING THE NEED FOR SPEED

EA's boy racer ahead of the pack as we thunder into 2005

15:05 When EA's Need for Speed Underground 2 came in with 8/1 odds for the Xmas number one spot, we very nearly sold everything we owned to bet a packet on it. But we didn't. Which is why we are here writing this, rather than having Paris Hilton scratch our backs with diamonds on a tropical beach.
So you can imagine how pleased we are to see NFS Underground 2 still topping the charts for the week ending January 1. It all seems so obvious now: Xmas number one last year + established fanbase + lots of herberts with Christmas cash = endless riches for us. Ah well.

Luckily the rest of the chart doesn't cause quite as much bitterness. In fact, things are positively stale, with only THQ's the Incredibles and Activision's Call of Duty: Finest Hour moving within the top ten - they swapped places to end up at three and four respectively. Everything else, including Rockstar's monster-selling GTA: San Andreas, stuck firm to their spots like stodgy Christmas pudding to your digestive tract.

It's nice to see Ubisoft's quality Prince of Persia: Warrior Within holding firm at six after poor sales for last year's original, while Halo 2 has slipped out of the top ten to be replaced by EA's the Urbz.

Further down the pecking order things are similarly static. EA's Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 is the biggest climber, leaping from 20 to 15, while the same company's Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth is the biggest faller, sliding from 14 to 19.

A fairly uninspiring bit of chart jostling to usher in the new year, then, but hopefully we'll see some red hot retail action over the next few weeks. In the meantime why not let off some steam about what you think we should be buying or place your bets for Christmas number one 2005? Need for Speed Underground 3 anyone?
