UK CHARTS: NFS UNDERGROUND 2 RETAINS POLE POSITION

EA's sequel holds on to number one spot

11:52 Is it that time of the week again already? Yup, time really does fly - as we proved previously by throwing a clock out the window (boom-boom) - and so it is that the ELSPA UK All-Format Charts are with us once more. The ChartTrack compiled listing, for week ending January 8, reveals that EA's sequel Need For Speed Underground 2 is still tearing up the competition to stick at number one.
Rockstar's GTA: San Andreas is getting criminal at number two this week, a non-mover from last week, while EA's FIFA 2005 displays some ball skills to move up from four to three. Also climbing a position this week is THQ's The Incredibles, which has moved up from five to four.

Dropping two to fall from three to five is Ubisoft's slice-'em-up Prince of Persia Warrior Within, at six is Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 4 which has moved up from eighth position and EA's role-playing game The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age drops from last week's six to seven.

Activision's Call of Duty: Finest Hour beats a slow retreat from the top ten, dropping from seven to eight, and at nine is Sega's Football Manager 2005, which has managed to dribble all the way up from last week's 15th place. Hanging on in there by its fingertips is EA's The Urbz: Sims in the City, which drops from nine to 10.

Here's the current top 20 in full:

01. Need for Speed Underground 2
02. GTA: San Andreas
03. FIFA 2005
04. The Incredibles
05. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
06. Pro Evolution Soccer 4
07. The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
08. Call of Duty: Finest Hour
09. Football Manager 2005
10. The Urbz: Sims in the City
11. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005
12. GoldenEye: Rogue Agent
13. The Sims 2

Definately not expected. It's a game that hasn't received the greatest reviews. Surely it can't hold onto Number 1 for much longer...

Can you believe it's still there!?

UK CHARTS: NFS UNDERGROUND 2 STILL TOP

EA's racing sequel continues to leave everyone coughing in a cloud of exhaust fumes

11:09 Well, the latest ChartTrack-compiled ELSPA UK All-Formats Chart week ending January 15 is in, and knock us down with valet's duster, EA's Need For Speed Underground 2 is still power-sliding at number one. It all, it has to be said, is beginning to sound somewhat like a broken record.
In fact, there's been no movement in the top three at all this week, with Rockstar's GTA: San Andreas sticking to its guns at two and EA's FIFA 2005 continuing to dribble for glory in third place.

Anyway, at four is THQ's The Incredibles, yet another non-mover, while Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 4 offers a modicum of excitement by climbing from six to five. PES 4 swaps places with Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, which drops one place to six this week.

Sega's Football Manager 2005 also manages to climb up the ranks, moving from last week's nine to seven. Activision's Call of Duty: Finest Hour continues to push back the Nazi war machine at eight, EA's Lord of the Rings: The Third Age has dropped from seven to nine and the publisher's Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 has moved up from 11 to 10.

Things are actually a little more interesting further down the field, with Half-Life 2 climbing from 17 to 12 this week and Halo 2 making one almighty leap up the chart to shift from last week's 27 to 13 this week. Sony's Killzone is also worth a mention, which has risen from 23 to 18.

We all feeling a little aggressive this January then?

Here's the current top 20 in full:

01. Need for Speed Underground 2
02. GTA: San Andreas
03. FIFA 2005
04. The Incredibles
05. Pro Evolution Soccer 4
06. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
07. Football Manager 2005
08. Call of Duty: Finest Hour
09. Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
10. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005
11. The Urbz: Sims in the City
12. Half-Life 2
13. Halo 2
14. WWE Smackdown! vs. RAW
15. GoldenEye: Rogue Agent
16. The Sims 2
17. Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth
18. Killzone
19. The Getaway: Black Monday
20. EyeToy: Play 2

Yeah the actual sales numbers would be useful too...

I still think that total sales SA would be ahead due to their amazing first week.

Can you adam and eve it?!?

UK CHARTS: NFS UNDERGROUND 2 MAINTAINS HOLD ON POLE POSITION

Yep, EA's sequel is still number one

12:06 EA's Need For Speed Underground maintaining its hold on the number one position in the current ChartTrack-compiled ELSPA All-Format UK Charts, week ending January 22, means that the sequel has now been top for an incredible nine weeks. Actually, if you're trying to stifle a yawn at this point, we wouldn't blame you. It's somewhat beginning to sound like a broken record.
Anyway, moving swiftly on, at two this week is non-mover Rockstar's magnum opus GTA San Andreas, biting on its heels THQ's The Incredibles which has climbed up one place from four to take third position. At four is EA's FIFA 2005, which has dropped one place this week.

Standing firm at five is Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 4, and then looking down the rest of the list to tenth place we see all non-movers. At six is Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, at seven Sega's Football Manager 2005, eighth place falls to Activision's Call of Duty: Finest Hour once more, nine is taken up by EA's Lord of the Rings: The Third Age and lying at tenth place is another EA title, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005.

Not much happening in the 11 to 20 slots, although it's worth mentioning that Activision's classy RTS Rome: Total War has marched from 32 to 20 this week, possibly on the back of the new series of TV show Time Commanders that features developer The Creative Assembly's Rome: Total War technology.

Here's the top 20 in full:

01. Need for Speed Underground 2
02. GTA San Andreas
03. The Incredibles
04. FIFA 2005
05. Pro Evolution Soccer 4
06. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
07. Football Manager 2005
08. Call of Duty: Finest Hour
09. Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
10. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005
11. Half-Life 2
12. Halo 2
13. WWE Smackdown! vs. RAW
14. The Sims 2
15. The Urbz: Sims in the City
16. Colin McRae Rally 2005

19. Killzone
20. Rome: Total War

NFS:U2 carried on another week...

And broke some records...

UK CHARTS: NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND 2 SETS NEW LAP RECORD

Street racer continues to pimp up the top of the charts, making it the longest continuous numero uno in the last five years

14:57 You have to hand it to Need For Speed Underground 2. The street racer from Electronic Arts has now sat atop the ChartTrack-compiled ELSPA All-Format UK Charts for 10 straight weeks, making it the longest continuous number one title in the last five years.
That mildly entertaining statistical nugget is unfortunately just about the most interesting thing we've been able to salvage from a stunningly static chart for the week ending January 29. While NFSU2 continues its sales domination, Rockstar's GTA: San Andreas continues to keep a grip on the second slot, while THQ's The Incredibles stays put in third.

Pro Evo 4 is now placed above FIFA 2005 in the sales league as the two footie titles switch positions at 4 and 5. Further down the field the most notable climber is Halo 2, which jumped from 12 to 9 as more Xbox owners discover the joy of online Master Chiefing.
The only new entry last week was Ubisoft's Ghost Recon 2, stealthily sneaking into the 19 spot under the cover of darkness. Sony's The Getaway: Black Monday is also back after doing a stretch outside of the top 20, the mockney gangster caper getting all lairy at the very foot of the chart as Killzone and Rome: Total War disappear.

Here's the chart in its full glory. You might want to pull up last week's edition and play a fun spot-the-difference game - we did, and it was an absolute hoot...

01. Need for Speed Underground 2
02. GTA San Andreas
03. The Incredibles
04. Pro Evolution Soccer 4
05. FIFA 2005
06. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
07. Football Manager 2005
08. Call of Duty: Finest Hour
09. Halo 2
10. Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
11. Half-Life 2
12. WWE Smackdown! vs. RAW
13. The Urbz: Sims in the City
14. Colin McRae Rally 2005
15. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005
16. The Sims 2
17. Star Wars: Battlefront
18. Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth
19. Ghost Recon 2
20. The Getaway: Black Monday

But then... it falls one spot... to that darned blue hedgehog!!!

Need for Speed Underground 2's record-breaking run at the top of the ELSPA UK All-Format Charts has come a cropper, Sega's Sonic Mega Collection Plus spinning into the number one spot on its first week of release and knocking EA's sequel down to second place. It's the most exciting occurrence in the charts for weeks, so excuse us while we break out the tea and cakes a little early today.
Sonic Mega Collection Plus's arrival has had a knock-on effect slightly further down the field too, the ChartTrack-compiled listing revealing that last week's number two, Rockstar's GTA: San Andreas, has fallen to three, while previous third place holder THQ's The Incredibles has dropped to four this week. Holding on to fifth position is FIFA 2005.

Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer has dropped from four to six, and at seven, a non-mover this week, is Sega's Football Manager 2005. And then we have positions eight to 10, which have all be gobbled up by new releases. At eight is EA's UEFA Champions League 2004-2005, at nine is Capcom's bloody and brutal Shadow of Rome and stealing in at 10 is Microsoft's MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf.
Nothing that interesting happening in the 11 to 20 positions, although Halo 2 has taken a bit of a pasting, dropping from nine to 19.

Here's the current top 20 in full:

Sonic Mega Collection Plus
Need for Speed Underground 2
GTA: San Andreas
The Incredibles
FIFA 2005
Pro Evolution Soccer 4
Football Manager 2005
UEFA Champions League 2004-2005
Shadow of Rome
MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf
Call of Duty: Finest Hour
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
The Spongebob Squarepants Movie
WWE Smackdown! vs. RAW
Half-Life 2
The Sims 2
The Urbz: Sims in the City
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005
Halo 2
Star Wars: Battlefront

NFS:U2 finally goes under SA...

But both of the top...

UK CHARTS: MERCENARIES BANGING FOR TOP BUCKS

Activision's free-roaming shooter hits centre target for a second week running

14:31 Sinking its cash-for-kills claws into the number one spot last week, Activision's Mercenaries is still firmly entrenched at the top in this week's ChartTrack-compiled, ELSPA UK All-Formats Chart (we were considering shortening ChartTrack-compiled, ELSPA UK All-Formats Chart to CTELSPAUKAFC to save some fingertip skin, but it doesn't exactly roll trippingly off the tongue, does it?).
So, the dogs of war are running rampant, but spinning like a maniac in second place is Sega's Sonic Mega Collection Plus, which has shown a burst of the hedgehog's trademark speed to zip up two places from four. Still sitting around in its keks at three is THQ's The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, while another Activision game, KOTOR 2, drops from two to four this week.

Climbing up two places to shift from seven to five is Rockstar's crime opus GTA: San Andreas, EA's Need for Speed Underground 2 hits small skids to drop from five to six and firing afterburners to blast from eleven up to seventh place is Sony's Ace Combat: Squadron Leader.
And that brings us to eighth place, which this week, as with last week, is taken up by EA's football crazy UEFA Champions League 2004-2005. At nine is Blizzard's spiffing MMORPG World of Warcraft, which has fallen from six and climbing two places to nab tenth position this week is Konami's masterful Pro Evolution Soccer 4.
