Ok, I know its early days, but I have tried and spun out in enough cars now, only just being able to finish '3rd', I completed it in 2:47.617.

There are, at time of writting, 2880 people, only, in the whole world, who are faster than I am - and I only won bronze.

What is up with that? Yes on the one hand its slightly reassuring that I haven't become inept at GT5 suddenly, but still! That's crazy, I think they should've let the judge be PP not, power and weight as it is now.

Edit: Beat 100 odd more people, with a time now of 2:43.XXX too bloody frustrating, I used an Audi R8 for petes sake, what's next? a GT-R? Actually yeah that'd ***king pwn the R8 any day, so not a bad idea... for tomorrow.

I'll be trying this later today , cant wait but what are the leaders in the event using as there car of choice ?

So now that we've finally got a Spa seasonal and it's actually demanding people start whining? Ok..

Just did a 2.34 in the Nissan GT-R TC from the DLC

Actually went faster in the Mine's Skyline thatn the Audi R8, power speed dont matter its all about traction and grip, get something 4WD and you will notice a huge difference

i won gold on the first time trial in the audi r8 4.2l on the first lap.
i won gold on the second time trail in the nissan r35 gtr TC on the second lap.
not too hard... but i think i'm used to the track after many laps on it in the ferrari f1 cars.
pretty fun, i love spa!!

Bloody hell the Minolta is a handful around here! I am currently 502nd in the world.

honkydonky

Hmm, yes, while the R8 is 4WD too, a lighter car might be the answer... I saw a 4.2 R8 right up there on the charts

EDIT: just to clarify, I was using a R8 5.2 road car, not the race car

Couldnt wait so i took these and got these no aids but ABS with a DS3

R390 2:28.8 dry

R92 2:28.37 wet

Using a 2J makes it easy.
I was 13th on my first try. Was 9th after my 3rd try (I left a good second in every corner).
I really like this challenge.

Can anyone please post their detailed setup and car used for the wet time trial. Nothing generic but the specific details of their setup. That would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

2:32 with escudo - gearbox to 280 kph, max downforce, brakes 6/4, max lowered suspension, power limiter to get to 700 HP

edit: I also tried with toyota 7 but I think it's impossible with that car :D

I completed the first in the dry first time no problem on a 2:40, then I attempted the wet lap and got a 2:47. I struggled to see where I could make 9 seconds!

After a few laps I exited to see what cars the top guys were using and discovered there is BHP hike on the second time trial - duh

I got a 2:33 first time after my realisation - my tip here is to do all your hard breaking and acceleration off the slippery racing line where possible. When on the racing line be super patient when getting back on the power.

I used a GT-R TC tuned engine stage 3 and applied maximum downforce. I don't have a 2J, it appears that's the weapon of choice by the top performers.

I'm afraid this event is 99% car choice and driving skill, and at most 1% setup.

Try the R35 TC. My first lap I ran a 2:31. This was with a setup for nurburg dry.

I switched to the 2J and managed a 2:28.5 but that car is much harder to drive in the wet.

Yeah, tell me about it.

The only difficulty or adversity in GT5 offline racing is passing a procession of AI cars artificially placed ahead of you to create some kind of challenge.

You actually get a seasonal event that is challenging and people get all whiny.

I blame the game design of GT, really, where the player has been groomed to expect to win every race they enter.

It was the same when we got the 3 'Expert' Challenges (Fiat, Lotus & WRX STi) last year...

Yeah the 2J is the easy Gold car. Gave it a go and set a 2:31 on my second lap.

I thought you meant the race car which is what I was comparing to as well :)

Tried a few diff things, and every time jimmy pulls over and coasts for no reason. He then waits for the pack(even with a gap) and watches them go mid way through the straight before he gets back on the gas. im losin it right now! gas gas gas dude

So what's the non-typical car of choice for it? I want a serious challenge. Whatever is on the verge of not being able to do it. I'd rather not try and drive the Toyota 7 though. lol That thing pisses me off.

What tires are people using for this event? Do rain tires offer better grip? A Year went by, and I never drove wet except for the required AMG driving special event.

i wouldve been able to do it with the GT-R TC, i was 0.3 s off, but i ended up getting it done with the Chappy 2J. i know not everyone has one but my setup was

high rpm turbo
tuned the suspension to my liking (made no difference, just more comfortable)
TC in 8 (id try it on 5 next time)
brakes 10/10
racing: wets

also i found the 3,4,5 lap had a ton more traction/stopping power, so even if the 1st two laps didnt count i just kept whippin around. i thknm this has ti do a but with the tires "warming up" (in water lol) although i also thought that RIs worked better on laps 1/2, but not as good overall

I got on something around 7000th place with the GT-R R35 TC on my first try. Use that if your having trouble.

Caterham?

I got a 2:32 flat in the GT-R TC just now. I probably could have gone quicker, maybe 2:29 if I was able to get those braking points right, but but I dont have the patience lol. Very good seasonal.

I did it in the 2J with DS3 after 6 attempts. I got the gold by 0.005!!!! I quite immediately for fear of heart palpitations! LOL I messed around with the transmission to make the car more stable under acceleration and it helped... a little. Steering while accelerating...BAD! :scared:

I always check to see what the leaders use and stick with that. If they can kill the required gold time with a certain car, I can usually get the gold.

The first one with the R390 was fairly easy. Bronze first lap, Silver on the second, and gold on the third. Kept going for another 3 laps and ended up beating the gold time by over 8 seconds. I was very happy with that! I never beat the gold time by that amount before. :)

Bloody hell the Minolta is a handful around here! I am currently 502nd in the world.

I can vouch for that! Even with a limited engine output it still slides all over the place. I used it and achieved a 2'32, possibly a 2'30 if I took more risks.
