Hello

Sorry if I'm wasting everyone's time here, but I discovered for myself a nice little feature yesterday.
Messing about in a GT-R Calsonic (and then followed up by a Stock GTR 09 vspec) i when the cars stationary, hold the hand break button down, simultaneously rev the car to a desired RPM, hold that rev point, release the hand break button, and you go nowhere. You just sit on the RPM or there abouts and as soon as you floor the accelerator the Handbrake releases and away you go. Kind of like the launch control systems they use in F1. Not sure of the practical nature of this, just thought that if I'm not the last person on GT Planet, other might like to know about it. So again apologies if this is old news.

Are there any practical uses to it?

Well thats again some cool attention to detail - then again Yamauchi helped develop the electronic gauges / board cimputer design so the GT-R already was in focus. Cool find nevertheless.

Neat but I don't see how this could be used in the game since each start is a countdown. This would be good feature in drag racing mode.......oh wait thats not in the game.

Is that just the GT-R?

Well a GT-R has a launch control system stock in the car but yes I have found this too on the GT-R's as well as a few other nissan's such as the 370z although it is not as effective as the GT-R.

What he is describing is now when you hold the handbrake for a second from a standstill it remains on (handy for parking on hills). It only goes off if you apply a lot of throttle or increase the revs to near redline (or press handbrake again), it isn't a specific launch control, just a handbrake hold which you can sortof use as a LC.

It works on every car with a handbrake since GT PSP.

Not quite. I can rev into the redline, hold it and release the hand break and it stays stationary, until I floor the accelerator which is also the same your technique of tapping the hand break once which allows you to rev anywhere without moving, however this only works if the accelerator is very lightly applied to increase the revs and then will release the handbrake when more a rigorous force is applied to it.
And yes it appears to work on other models, having just tested with a Yaris and Impreza. Having never owned a PSP or GT PSP, I would never have known that thanks anywho.
Its all academic and there's very little use to it!

Well yeah, but it isn't a LC function, just a side effect of the new (since GT PSP) hand brake hold function. Launches are better done with the regular brake or clutch + handbrake combo.

Yeah I understood what he was saying I was just trying to see if this was on every car, I know the GT-R has a function like this that voids the warranty if you turn it off and break something.

So my guess was right it is not just for this car but something within the game.
