What is the difference btwn the Le Mans cars and Group C cars??

Also I have about 2mil in credits and am working my way to 5 mil. What car should I buy to win the races with? Thanks

Group C cars are the cars that competed in Le Mans Races. They have had a name change to LMP cars since then. My suggestion would be to get a Nissan R89C, 1047 hp tuned, superlight, great engine sound, the best old group C car there is

Group C is based off the old FIA regulations way back when.

LMP stands for Le Mans Prototype, a regulation set developed by the ACO.

Both sets of cars have raced at Le Mans. Group C died off in the early 90s. Group C was nearly a free for all as far as power was concerned. LMP cars a more regulated, but still fast.

Last years LMP1's were as quick if not quicker than the Group C's, in race trim anyway.

Group C cars are now more then 30 years old. Of course modern LMP cars are way faster.

No way on earth a Group C car could lap at the current Circuit de la Sarthe layout (with chicanes) under 3:30 in qualifying (in race I doubt they would get below 3:40).

Somewhere I read that the Sauber C9 once did a 3:35 at the chicane layout, is this correct? Also, the Peugeot 908 HDI FAP in the 2009 24h race would have lapped the legendary Mazda 787b (which raced on the non chicane layout) several times.

The Mazda 787B didn't win on outright speed, it won on reliability and fuel consumption. Group C cars from 1988-1992 were easily some of the most gorgeous cars of all time and it's been a goal of mine to collect all of the ones available in GT5.

Appart from the R92CP, which is the upgraded version of it with more power and less understeer lol

I wish for a Porsche 917-30 :D

It's a toss-up which one would win in GT5 available configurations. You have to decide which one is easiest for YOU to drive. In time it won't matter when racing against the AI. When you go online you'll find out that you really still have a lot to learn ;)

Not gonna happen. No porsche in GT5.:grumpy:

The 787b didn't race on the non chicane layout. The chicanes were introduced in 1990.

It is good to see folk still racing the Group C cars today. The sounds and looks of them are just amazing.

As for in the game, the best one to get is the one that you find easiest to drive quickly. That may not help you very much at the moment so you'll just have to go for the one you like the look of best.

Oh m fault, but the difference in race pace between the 787b and a 908/R18 is still very big.

Don`t get me wrong, I love group c (sadly PD got no premium 88C or C9), but I would take any prototype from the 60s and 70s above them anyday ;)

Development of aerodynamics makes all the difference.

Wonder why no Porsches exist in GT5. That is very weird!

Porsche signed a contract with EA I believe. PD tried to get Porsches in the game but EA wasn't having it. Thats why you see Porsche in Need for Speed games. And why we the GT series has RUF.

Tyre and Brake Development.
They always find ways to regain aero and horsepower around limitations, but the big difference in modern race cars is better tyres(consistent and durable) and brakes, probably more brakes.

The La Sarthe wiki has a great table with lap times to circuit layout and era.

I wish the Porsches were included in GT5. They had some great livery, especially the Repsol colours.

I actually bought my first 787B last night. It's a great machine and some serious fun!
