The RUF CTR was a limited-production sports car produced by RUF of Germany.

By the late 1980s, RUF was an established manufacturer in Germany, providing tuning services for Porsche automobiles. Deciding that the company needed to offer a complete model to top their range of offerings, company owner Alois Ruf Jr. set out to develop a vehicle based on the Porsche 930, both the most powerful of Porsche's offerings at the time and the fastest road legal car for sale in Germany during the 1980s.

RUF replaced factory body panels, including the doors, hood and engine cover with aluminum pieces, helping knock 200 kilograms off the 930's factory curb weight, while considerable modification was made to the Porsche-built 3.3 litre, single-turbocharged flat six-cylinder engine, bringing total output to 469 horsepower and 408 ft·lbf. of torque. Possibly the CTR's most significant upgrade over the 930 was its available RUF-spec six-speed transmission, replacing the four-speed unit that the model was factory equipped with. Modifications to the vehicle's suspension and braking systems made up the other mechanical modifications while RUF badging, wheels and interior pieces were added for visual appeal.

The company debuted their in-house unit at the end of 1987 as the "CTR Yellowbird", named so for its yellow paintwork. Pricing was set at $223,000 per unit, although that number could vary depending on if a given customer ordered their car directly from RUF or brought in a unit purchased via dealer for conversion.

In the end, if Porsche no longer makes a model for them to work with, they no longer make the RUF models...

See, this is where you're wrong. Ruf doesn't buy Porsches and mod them for you. They buy the basic components -- the chassis, engine block, some of the core bodywork, etc. -- and build the car, from scratch, using a lot of their own parts.

I realize this... But in the end, what they've done is buy a Porsche in pieces, in a box, assembled it added a few things and sold it. That's all... They don't make it, except for perhaps the tranny, side panels and rims... I could do the same thing... If simply assembeling a car that you got in pieces while adding your own flare to it is considered making an original... That's insane, by that logic, every ricer out there must be a manufacturing giant.

That's exactly what this is like... It's a moded Porsche, perhaps they assemble it at their company... Big deal, there are people that do that very same thing all over the world with collector cars... Any of the Tuner Village companies can claim the exact same thing... No Porsche, no RUF... That simple. All they'll do with your Porsche is change the panels, change the wheels and breaks, add a gear box and maybe an exaust system... Take off the little emblem, replace it with theirs. If you buy an original, they'll call Porsche and say "We need a 911." Porsche sends the parts (if it's even sent in parts really, we don't even know that for sure) builds it up until the panels have to go on, adds their wheels, tranny, pipes and panels and that's it... It's still a Porsche at it's base, with a body kit and a few mods...

Unless you guys provide a link showing me/us another verison of this story... It's a Porsche... I've provided links, others have provided links, those that are going against this have not...
 
Seat get most of their parts from VW. What does that make a Seat?

The bottom line is that over 80% of a RUF built car is RUF parts. Less than 20% of it is Porsche. This makes RUF a manufacturer in the eyes of the German government.
