Does anyone else dislike the speed champions sets? I feel the instructions are (somehow) too complex for even me. I've assembled:

  • Architecture London
  • Minecraft Minechest
  • and 3/4 of the special ninjago microcities
And yet, the MCL38 defeated me.

I like most of them. I have a lot of Speed Champion sets.

Every time I look down the LEGO aisle in my local toy store I comment to whoever im with that the Icons McLaren and Williams F1 cars look so good, its a shame that they havent released more. So if this is in the works, AWESOME. Will be another one that needs an aftermarket sticker set for the "correct" sponsors (i know even IRL they were removed for some rounds, but with those sponsors seems more genuine) though, that massive white space would be awful.

I dislike most of them, I just don't think Lego can do the shapes required to do most of the cars justice, a few are good, some of them are OK but too many of them are way off. They have too many stickers too!

I have four; the McLaren F1/Solus twin pack (but I hated the latter so much I split it between the 787B I built for a friend and my kid's random piece stash), Countach, 6 stud F40 and 6 stud Camaro race car. I like the F1 and Countach but the other two have aged horribly and look like City cars from 10 years ago, but I don't even want to replace the F40 with the new one because it just doesn't look like an F40.

Personally I think the best cars Lego does are the Icons ones, the Mustang (which I regret not getting when I had the chance) was so good.

I only bought the Speed Champions F40 (which is still on my backlog) because of this alternate build. I also skipped buying the Technic 911 RSR because it looked off, even with modifications. There's only a handful of cars that have been translated well to LEGO, IMO (for official builds, at least).
 
My living room decoration with Lego seems to have taken an unexpected turn. Even before I bought this house I had got the Bonsai Tree but just today learned about the Tranquil Garden that looks like the perfect one next to it. Which it probably was designed to be, with the exact same design for the black edges.

I did 50% of The Milky Way today.

I thought it looked a bit finicky, but I've really enjoyed it. I love the colours of the pieces as well - loads of purples and blues, and it should make for a very nice framed artwork once finished.

I also got a Botanicals set of 9 small house plants, and my Mum has been doing those - she's never done Lego in her life before, so it is great to see her enjoying building these models - they look really cool, and may even earn a prestigious place in my Mum's living room where space is very much at a premium.

Lego Milky Way - took about 8 hrs to build, done in two sessions...

This was a lot more fun than I was expecting - and it is a perfect 'co-op' build.

It is made up of 15 blocks, with 5 vertical panels made from 3 blocks each. In theory, a whole family could build this at the same time, or a couple could build it with one person doing 3 panels and the other the frame and the remaining 2 panels.

Each individual block is too finicky to be done with another person, but being able to work simultaneously on different blocks would make this a fun family build.

The end product is very impressive, and I'll attempt to mount this on my bedroom wall later.

Moving out of my flat had at least one upside - digging out my old games, and I found my Lego Sokoban kit(s) yesterday.

I designed these using Lego Digital Designer, and originally made them for my nephew's 'Treasure Box' - a bunch of keepsakes for posterity. I used to love playing Sokoban on an old Linux workstation at work, and figured out that one could build playable Sokoban boards using Lego.

I originally made two sets for myself - a 16x16 'display' set, and an 8x8 set of one of my favourite puzzles. Today, however, I figured out that I could make an extra set using spares and the base board from my own Lego Sudoku box - a playable, colours-based Sudoku game, which I posted here many years ago.

Tonight, I managed to use what was left of the spares to build a 4th set - and this was a puzzle in its own right... with the two layers of the board holding each other in place.

This can be converted to a 'display' board - just re-arrange the edge pieces to leave an 8x8 'hole' in the middle, where any of the other sets can be slotted in for display purposes

My Lego Milky Way just fell off the wall while I was playing GT7 :ouch:

At least it didn't happen in the middle of the night... it was not badly damaged, and it fortunately didn't break anything underneath.
 
I'd name it after one of my favourite bands...

I replaced the hooks on my wall with heavier duty hooks, and got the Lego Milky Way back up on the wall in my games room.

I would really love to buy my sister the Lego Typewriter (21327), but don't know if that's possible without going via eBay or some Amazon affiliate...

Does anyone have any recommendations or even know anyone who might have a kit - ideally unused, but not a dealbreaker - for sale or trade privately?

eBay or Bricklink, but prepare to pay more for it than when it was new - the cheapest one on Bricklink is £300, although it is signed by the designer: https://store.bricklink.com/TCE?itemID=286439802#/shop?o={%22invID%22:%22286439802%22}

You can get it for less, brand new unopened, on eBay but still more than it was before it retired (£215). BL sellers tend to ship things with more care than eBay sellers do.

Thanks so much for that, that is by far the best option.

I'm torn between just ordering a kit and asking my sister first. She collects typewriters and we all love Lego, so it would be fine to buy a pre-made model, but I expect that she would prefer an unused kit; She would never spend that money on a Lego kit though, hence she would likely say no if I asked her, so I might just have to buy it - and that would keep it as a nice surprise.
