Its not a question, im only showing my disaproval for the lousy lenguage filter system in the game. It should be at leas optional.

I speak portuguese, but im forced to learn what innocent words are flagged as curse words, like "pista" (track), "ficar" (stay), and some many others.

But it bothers me even when i try to speak english, some words are flagged with no reason, like overstering and understering.

Even Tsukuba is flagged, i dont know why. They system should be optional or only the problematic word be censured, instead the whole sentence.

It is silly. As I understand it, it's actually the Sony Chat filter, and not something specific that PD came up with for the game.

It only makes perfect sense that you should be able to set in the options whether you are offended by strings of letters that never actually hurt anybody, or whether you want it to just show you whatever somebody types. Which of course means it will never happen. :)

It censored redneck. Lol

Sausage is also censored as well I believe...

Engine, and lapping are also censored.

I tried to type a sentence from google translate to the people in a german lobby.... It censored the whole thing

The problem is that it will censor the whole message, just for the sake of a couple of letters. Try telling someone you're from Scunthorpe!

One really weird one I found was that it censored 'reverse engineering', obviously trying to cut hacker chat.

I wrote "whip cream" and that got censored.

no sir, I don't like it.

Everyone has this problem, no matter the language. Some perfectly innocent words in English are censored because in another language, they MIGHT be used in an offensive manner.
The funniest has to be that "engine" is censored. lol
(Because it's also used as a slang word in French.)

It even censors some car models like Z06 or ZR1 (Corvettes) and even some things that aren't even remotely a curseword (typed an explanation of what happened in a race and it censored it...)

****** ***** ******** *** ********

It's a different filter than XMB chat and even the message board on GT5.
XMB and GT5 message board will only censor the word, but on GT5 online race chat, it censored the WHOLE SENTENCE..

so whose idea is that? PD or Sony?

I've definitely never used "engine" as a slang word for anything, and French is my first language. Where have you heard that? And what is it supposed to mean??

@ Mods: I know we are not supposed to use slang words and so on on this forum, but this one really interests me and I believe a lot of french users. And I'm fairly sure it isn't one.

If every word that is filtered out on gt5 was filtered here, we would have about 6 words to use or it will look like e n g I n e, t s u k u b a , as putting spaces between the letters gets around the filter.

The censor sucks. I hate it. It's annoying.
Let's say I'm chatting with somebody before a race starts, and after I click enter, I get this:

*********** *** ****** ** ********* ****** *** ***** *****.

Now, I don't see any of the usual triggers, so I try it again:

* * * * * * * * * * * * *** ****** ** ********* ****** *** ***** *****.
By now, the race has started, and I can't even chat with the other person now. Great. I understand why the censor is in place, but it's waaay to overzealous. Maybe there should be a better censor in place that only censors out the offending word(s). That way we could actually see which word offended the system. Just a thought.

You can still text text anything want. You have to use spaces.
E n g i n e. Or just break up the word. En gi ne

Yes it's pointless, as there's no way to censor people who use mics, they can be muted by anyone who doesn't wanna listen, but the game has no way of censoring voice chat. Everyone... get a mic :)

It is, but because it filters out the whole lot, its hard to single out the offending 'non' offending word.

It absolutely stupid. I can't talk about things related to cars (such as the aforementioned 'engine') on chat, but I can go on a sweary rant at someone should I feel the need over the mic.
Also certain words can be used by the simple substitution of a letter (usually @ instead of a).

I have a mic and I don't intentionally swear like a ***** (sarcasm I used *) but sometimes I go round a corner too fast catch the grass and spin off, this is when a little swear word may slip out :)

I'm the same, I do my best not to swear but if I mess up a really good lap a little obscenity could escape. I normally race with adults (over 18 at least & often much older). I just think it's ridiculous that we have such a strict censor, when people with mics can swear away to their hearts content.

I'm not advocating censorship of any kind.

I agree It's ridiculous. I think it is odd that words like Grapes, Engine, Sausage and Rape are censored. They should get rid of it completely in a new update.

blah blah blah

I'm not even saying they should get rid of it completely, but when I'm trying to say "I had engine damage twice in that race" and it comes up as "*****" how am I suppose to know what word was the censored one.

It's ridiculous that there is any censorship at all in the chat feature... almost any newspaper or 6 o'clock news will deliver worse to children, lets not start on how quick you can find yourself in some deeply innappropriate websites with just a couple of clicks ... I know, my daughter loaded my profile on windows and pretty soon it got ugly on google. A frustrating and worthless feature that should be changed ASAP. Chances of this happening - Nil.
