GTPlanet, as reported by IGN, there is told to be a "Gran Turismo for Boys" (conceptual title). If you want the article from another thread, go to: (http://ps2.ign.com/articles/564/564793p1.html?fromint=1). This topic is not about this article, but more like "how should this be executed," "how do you teach the youth about the fun of cars," and that sort of thing. What would you want to see for this "GT for Boys" to make this game an exciting and fun game for the youth to play? If you have any ideas on how this "GT for Boys" can be executed to make it a hit with the youth, reply now.

I'd start as usual, but have no ideas. So what do you think this game would have to have or execute to make this GT a success among youth? Remember, this is more of "what would you want in this 'GT for Boys?'" Especially if you are fathers of sons and you want them to appreciate cars as much as we do, you perhaps have the best answers. So go ahead!

Well, make it easy for them to understand. Shiny paint and "cool" bodykits don't make a car go fast. Motorsports is dangerous.. ETC.. Someone continue.

I thought that GT had a rating of 3+... strikes me as the original game will suffice... when it finally ****ing comes out!!

Maybe its a version of mario kart..... like

Kazunori Kart :D

A game with simplified GT physics and cartoony Skylines would actually be pretty cool.

I think if you give the game some limited tuning options, and the ability to crank your horsepower to insane levels, you'll bring in some kids to the game.

I would even maybe put some on-track power ups in the game. (Turbo boost etc.)

Moreover you have to keep the "Gotta Catch 'Em all" mentality that is actually well executed in Gran Turismo proper. Maybe include like a car checklist (*cough* pokedex *cough*) that tracks which cars you've seen/unlocked.

Actually I think the game would be a pretty good fit on the PSP as well.

GT for kids : Big Bird Edition
Sponsored by the Childrens Television workshop.

I don't think its going to do GTs credability any favours.

Im thinking something along the lines of Automodellista in style. Possibly cellshaded, with slightly deformed cars that are brightly colored with easy to understand tunning and simplified physics with more emphasis on the actual collecting cars(Pokemon craze  ). Could be really intersting especially as a budget title. Obviously wont have hundreds of cars but still could be fun. Im almost as excited to see what this game is as I am GT4. The GT fan in me knows that Im going to get this game regardless of its target audience.

...perhaps, they should have only ...battery operated cars... kids don't have the patience to do a license test, time trails,etc.... they'll just look for..cheats!! if adults lose their patience and throw the controller at the wall, kids will probably kick the console and the tv too:scared: ...poor parent$ :ouch:

I think it will be more oriented towards education than driving and tuning. Kind of explaining to kids how cars work, what tuning does, teaching basic driving techniques, etc.

For example, Gran Turismo 4 for adults (errr, right) has license tests with a video demo, while I think GT4 "for boys" will have license tests more akin to detailed walkthroughs, pausing at cruitial points explaining exactly what to do to carry out the maneuver.

It may also have more remedial tests, like a throttle control test that tells them to cover 400m in a certain time range at a specified throttle pressure.

Got a good point there.

Another thing about this topic is that you have to try to think about trying to make GT4 appeal to the young crowd. And as I said in another topic, I don't really agree with the name "Gran Turismo FOR BOYS." Unless of course, Kazunori has something for little girls. So I'd of course call it "Gran Turismo Kids," "Kids Gran Turismo," or something like that. And remember, Sony doesn't have a centrailized hero (for example, Nintendo has Mario (and Luigi), Sega has Sonic, etc.). So if you wanted this to appeal to kids, it would be nice to have a certain character represent this game.

One idea I had was maybe a one of those so-called "tiny tot" model of Kazunori Yamauchi. Let's say you will be this miniature Kazunori will be the main character that you will control. In Anime, a Tiny Tot is a character that has a big head, and usually with small hands and feet, deformed bodies, and a big head. The head accounts for 1/3 of the overall character's body. And the body looks completely cartoonish in most cases. If you want a better idea as to what they look like, go to a bookstore and look for a book that I have by Hikaru Hayashi called "How to Draw Manga: Bishoujo and Pretty Girls," and look at pages 112 to 114.

But if this "Little Kazunori" ends up being the character to teach kids about cars, I would like to see some supporting characters. Maybe let's say that this cute female "Tiny Tot" is the very nice lady who owns a big car store, and she's so generous that she may let you choose between four nice, underpowered cars to start out with, then (can you imagine a "baby" Toyota GT-One or a baby Fina McLaren?) you can step up to bigger and better cars. Perhaps another character would be this old-looking mini person who runs the license tests. Maybe after races, this cute, young, petite lady is a roaming reporter who follows your progress in the game. Then, let's have a main "villian" who races a TVR Cerbera Speed 12 who wants to continually ruin your GT experience, and it's your job to make him lose.

How about you?

A chibi Kazunori..... hahaha :D
I think this will be a simplified version of all the previous GT games where everything is less technical, so it's easier to understand for the young gamers :) And also a more forgiving physics engine so the kids can have fun without spinning out or running off the track at every corner.

I can't wait to see what this game really is about :)

As for the "Boys" title, it's probably a Japanese thing.. we know there's an elusive brand of human known as the "Girl Gamer" here in America, how many are there in Japan? He may be generalizing, if the gaming population in Japan is exclusively (or almost exclusively) male.

I imagine the American title will probably be "GT Jr." or "Gran Turismo Mini" or something like that, more general in nature. Probably with the tagline "The GT your dad can't play!" which would only be there to add to the kids' egos and to make us adults feel even more goofy about actually playing it ourselves! :)

I'll wait and see what happens with it, see where it goes. If it looks like a decent racer in it's own right, I may go ahead and buy it for myself. Then again, I might not.. depends. I'm not going to get it just because it's a GT game.. I don't plan on getting a PSP, so I won't be getting GT4:M, for example.

What about teaching them, unlike they are used to from "The Fast And The Furious", that
NOS is not always the weapon to chose.

I am just thinking about the Speed12 on the Nordschleife, kicking in
NOS in the section of Brünnchen, developing a vast acceleration
created from the 2000HP powertrain and seeing the kids fly for the
next few miles...

Maybe Mattel could jump on board and offer a bonus Matchbox car with every game sold.
Mattel, makes HotWheels. Hotwheels are with-out a doubt the best die-cast cars. Make some of their best models cars in Granturismo, that should entice some kids. (Well the big kids :) )

What a crap idea.

I've just wasted 40 seconds of my life reading this dribble.

man...if a kid doesn't know about cars...sit him down and teach him...take him for rides in nicely tuned cars....out on the track or just on the street...show him the beauty of driving and the art of tuning. if the kid doesn't like cars....well, take him out, hang him upside down from a tree and beat him until he does...maybe show him a few pics or some movies about racing...or the videos from my signature...i don't know but damn him (or her) who doesn't like cars!!!!

Mattel Bought the Matchbox name in 1997 and now make 'Matcbox' as well as 'Hot Wheels'.
At the moment the Matchbox cars are aimed at the 3-6 year olds and the Hot Wheels for the older kids. Its a shame as Matchbox used to be the best.
A 1969 Red Superfast Pontiac GTO sold for about $5000 US at auction recently.

I thought you didn't have a life, Code_kev, but, if you say so...

Before I begin, if you have nothing positive to contribute to this topic, please don't contribute ANYTHING to this topic. Don't like what's mentioned, don't reply. It's that simple, but I guess some people may never understand. Where's the fun in sarcasm? I work too damn hard to try to make things fun and/or interesting, and if some of you aren't going to help me and others have fun, you're just making things dull for the rest of us. So think about that before attacking me or a harmless thread like this one.

From my last post, where I was getting at is "how do we make GT fun for the younger crowd?" As the IGN site that I posted said, the target audience of the working title "Gran Turismo for Boys," was told to be 8 and younger. All I was getting as is how to make GT fun for children. So I posted a rather weird idea for the game, everything from a "chibi Kazunori" to cartoonish-looking cars. I think someone mentioned Auto Modellista, and that's a bit like what I was going for in this topic. I don't know if PD can take a number of the cars they modelled and skinned, and then make cel-shaded models of them. For example, maybe take the Toyota GT-One or the 2005 Ford Mustang, and then make them into cel-shaded cars. You may want to look online and read on how cel-shading is done.

Any of you have any ideas? By the way, hope you had a great Veteran's Day. I just can't wait for Thanksgiving! So reply on, folks.

Cel-shading would definitely work. In many ways, it would be easier than doing it the way they're doing it now. The cars don't require near the amount of detail, and what little detail remains can be textured, allowing for lower-poly cars. Cel-shading itself is just that.. shading. The way the thing is rendered. It really has little effect on the modeling, but with a lower-poly vehicle, that leaves more graphical power to make the shader work.

At the very least it's probably going to be like GT4 Prologue but with more cars, some tuning (probably with some sort of "quick tune" option) and multiplay.

Honestly though, Kaz should just skip making this and start working on the "Gran Turismo BEST MOTORING Touge Shodown" edition featuring Keichii Tsuchiya and his arch-rival Nobuteru Taniguchi and some really bad acting (as well as the owner of AMUSE or some other tuning house dressed up as a schoolgirl).
