You lot don't know how lucky you are. This is horrible, just happened! I will be begging for cars soon, is that what I've become? So what car would you give to charity!

Yes it was a 60g fat one. Got to go downstairs and tell her I need a new one. Wish me luck.

Update: Right, If this news about a game save patch is true then I am officially over the moon. Getting this fat thing fixed and buying a Slim+Collectors Edition bundle from Amazon for £269, will sell off the Collectors Edition for £50 and it should be a deal worth having!

Thanks for the kind offers of a car, I was sort of joking but it shows you're not a bad lot really are you.

So there is no way of backing up the game in case this happens? you're just **** out of luck?

Mines an old 60gb also and I've been hearing a lot of people's braking
 
The first gen PS3's YLOD'ing are starting to scare me. I've had mine since day one and it has the awesome playback capability that I don't want to lose with a new PS3... I really hope this doesn't happen to me...
 
Luckily mine had the YLOD about a month before release date, so I was able to send it in and get a new/refurbished one before I got the game
 
ouch...well i had my hdd repaired like 2 months ago so I don't think I'll get ylod...:nervous:
 
My 60gig fat died in september. Got a new slim recently. Two of my friends fats died around the same time. If you have a fat, start saving up for a slim, your future self will thanks you.
 
YLOD can be fixed. Craigslist/Google is your friend.

Not sure about europe, but here in Canada you can buy up to two years more warranty for $50 via PSN.
 
Repair the PS3 yourself or find someone who can do it. Shouldn't be more than $40 and 2 hours worth of waiting. That's what I did rather than send Sony $150 and wait several weeks.

Tread carefully with Craigslist...I came across a lot of odd people from that website.
 
oh man sorry to hear that.
I got a fatty myself but the hard drive is external with it's own power supply which translates to lower heat inside the ps3 & lower power load for the power supply. So I hope it doesn't die on me.

They gotta come up with a way to back-up your game & link the saved data to our psn user name. That way there is no cheating when it comes to the garage data or game comple %.

Look there are tutorials but they are just temporary fixes. What i did when my Ps3 got the Yellow light was that I Used a Heat gun I bought at the Home Depot, Reflowed it like every tutorial says so, Returned the heat gun and I backed up the ps3 before sending it in to Sony.

I spoke to customer service and told them I couldn't play games very long because the Yellow light was popping repeatedly up every other time I entered in a game. Payed the 180$ and they sent me Another 60gig model that was as good looking, and quiet as the day I bought it.

It's already had a new blu-ray from the Console Doctor!

I think I'll have to buy a slim and start again. Disc is stuck too. Good job I'm not moving house or going to Australia on holiday in the next few weks as I'll have some spare cash. Oh damn.

grab a heatgun and some thermal compound and have at it.
I've repaired mine 3 or 4 times..

however i'd consider it a temporary measure.
I've purchased a slim with the intention of doing a data transfer this w/e.

they will YLOD again.

It seems to be eventually they will all break at one point. If you stay ontop of it, the console should last longer.

Definately a spate of them at the minute. GT5 is just too hardcore haha. I see now why Sony reckoned this game would sell millions of consoles, they contain a secret Doomsday Code!
 
You don't need a new ps3, you need a heat gun.
 
I´m begining to get a little nervous. Mine is a 40GB Fat. I just hope this happens to some fat models and not all of them.

Don't like hearing this :/ Got a PS3 60GB launch model as well, no problem this far, but am getting a bit scared reading all this.
