Untill there is 100% confirmed proof of damage unlocking at Lvl20, I think its not the case.

I notice no more damage at Lvl21 than I did at Lvl1

There's a rumor that you unlock damage at level 40. But, it's only a rumor. Have you noticed anymore excessive damage at level 20 ?

why are some people so fixated with damage? do you join races so you can witness spectacular crashes and damage?

because the game is million times better with damage to the cars. if i wanted to play bumper cars i would of bought another game

million times better? go play twisted metal if you want car damage that bad..:ouch:

That is not the fact. The fact is, that it would give you much more intense races.....but some stupid guys never realise...because they always give you this "I race clean and need no damage"....which is the most stupid argument I´ve ever heard.

Without any damage, your mistakes while racing never would have any consequences and there are always some moments, where you make a mistake.

The problem is, that the included damage system is not realistic enough (mostly the physical one) to give you a plus for racing atmosphere.

At level 23, the damage in extreme events isn't much. Nothing like what we saw during the E3 demos.

intense? how can damage make a race intense? that you can finally see a ferrari or any other exotic lose half of it's body panels? intense racing is imo a closely contested battle between cars, not a destruction derby. also, that argument isn't stupid. why would someone need damage if he rarely ever gets one?

damage modelling are for those flashy "racing" games who tries to hide all its shortcomings in handling, physics and whatnot under some fancy graphics.

PS: i'm pretty sure even if GT5 got amazing damage modelling, people would still find other things to whine about like "why is it just cosmetic", "it doesn't affect my car's aerodynamics", etc. it just won't stop.

as for me, i'm enjoying GT5 right now apart from the blocky shadows (when it happens). i don't mind much the standard cars either as i almost always drive my stealth cars on the high-tier races now.

I'm in level 12 and yesterday i was doing monaco with the Lotus Elan and smashed to the wall and the steering became odd with some give. but metal damage nothing.
Edit: i already saw a smashed bumper on a 350z nothing more

I'm pretty new to the serious but my opinion is damage that affects the cars drivability just adds some realism. It adds consequences for crashing. As much as i try not to crash now I know if I do lose control coming into a turn too fast it really is not a big deal. I just keep going. If it started affecting my car it would force me to get better. Psychological? yes because I should push myself to get better on my own, and I do, but it's still in my head that I can still win an event if I plow a wall at 200 mph. Is damage mandatory for me to enjoy the game? No, but it just adds a little more realism.

problem is it's only cosmetic damage, so no point having it. if it was functional damage, i would have agreed to what you say tho.

You didn´t watch motorsports ever, he? Or didn´t play any serious racing simulation on PC, he? Mostly in online racing, racing without damage system is just a joke.

Close racing means contact sometimes, if you do not react correctly or racing at the real limit. And if there is any contact between cars or a car with a wall, there need to be damage, even physically one.

If you raced too fast and hit something, it should be that you suspension brakes and you need to pit in to repair it. And if this happens, your race is done because there is no chance for podium positions.

And this is, what makes racing intense: the fact to race at the limit but be careful enough to not damage your car or lose chances for podium.

Anything else is just bumping and wrecking.

The most severe damage I have saw so far was in a private MP race I spun and hit the wall tail first at about 200mph jacked up the rear of the car pretty good on one side. Was right at the finish so I do not know if there were any effects to the handling. So far I have not experienced any adverse effects from hitting stuff in game.

At level 19 I hit a wall on Nurburgring GP at about 140 and then got slammed by the VW supercar in the rear, steering wheel kicked me so hard I thought I had fractured my thumb but the only damage was my thumb.

I'm grey area on it. I'll worry about damage when I'm open tracking my real mustang. On here I kinda like an escape from reality a bit.

If the damage clears after each race, then what's the point. So far I don't see any advantage to doing the chassis repair. I'm just now at level 20 so no idea if it starts to make you work harder to avoid it. I still tend to power through crowds to get in front. It's just too fun!
