Level 20ish and hitting a wall? (a BIG wall)

Is it so hard to acknowledge that different players experience this game differently and that for a big group of GT5 players the levelling system is standing in the way of them having fun?

GT4 had a natural progression system in which players had a lot of choice. GT4 developed different types of players: Those who wanted to gold everything and get to 100%, those who just wanted to tune cars, those who were just casually going through the game enjoying the races and many hybrid forms. :)
In GT5, only the first group gets to fully enjoy the game without any drawbacks. If you like golding everything, this is the game for you. If you don't, you better like grinding and have a high frustration threshold.

And for those of you who have it: please get rid of the 'first gold everything and then come back and complain'-attitude. Nothing entitles you to speak down to people who have every right to complain about their beloved game going rogue on them.

2 cents.

The game is lacking events. Look at the Lupo race for example that was run on the ring in the professional section. That entire event was only 1 lap around the ring. I had a blast running that one event and wanted more. Why didn't they create a Lupo championship with like 8 different races? Why not use every track that is available in the game in an A-Spec event? Why am i penalized if i decide to race online by taking away my ability to gain XP and credits?

I just don't understand some of the thinking that went into the leveling system and events.

But GT5 goest further tha GT4 and Kazunori doesnt want just anybody to get the top cars with no effort after all theres an online comunity you dont want to see some lvl 10 punk having the same car you got at lvl 30 because you spent time. this is not Need For Speed and thos that say fisrt gold everything have all the right to brag althought i dont like it but is so man. In this life you either work you way up or dont and stay where you are and complain about everything the others have and you don't. Games these days hold your hand at every corner. People YOU HAVE TO EARN THINGS TO APPRECIATE THEM. you cry about not being able to pregress the you know what to dojust play more if they made more races and cars they game would be delayed even more. JUST DO IT man and probably youll have what you seek some day. And dont let anyone look down on you go beat them or dont complain if they do its yes or no nothing in between. IF you want to chill out therse a lot of great cars for those that didnt go hard core. See it meant to please most people. You must be able to distiguis yourself get something for you effort.

so it ok that a punk that uses the birthday exploit and can be at home al day and all night (because as nothing better to do) be able to drive whatever car he wants and me a working man cant enjoy the pleasures of driving my favorite cars because I have to quit my day job to do so?

hell they could even through in a special crome grind line cars for those that like it the way.

besides I dont care if the other guy has a better car than me I just want more diferent races to get the same XP

Wait until you get to A-Spec level 35.

The wall there is the Great Wall of China

Only thing left to do is run the 24 hours of LeMans 5-7 times until you reach level 40

Personally I would LOVE to race the 24 hours of LeMans 5 -7 times - BUT only if I had realistic help from my B-spec drivers and was only asked to drive 8-10 hours of it, which would be realistic

But as it stands its all you

I expect .001% of people to platinum this game.

What's kind of funny when people say something like "Go gold everything" is they are ignoring the fact that to attempt a Gold on something you've already got a silver medal in will net you nothing but constant reloading and if you're unable to progress by getting a gold you get absolutely zero exp/money for the hours you'd spent trying to get it! Talk about hitting a wall. I've been trying to gold the final AMG one lap nurburgring challenge and I just can't do it. I spend a couple of hours and I cannot shave 3 seconds off my time. I gave up for now. I've hit my wall for sure.

A simple event generator would have done WONDERS for the game. Setting your own track, number of laps, opponents, restrictions. You could have a one lap battle or a 99 lap endurance race on any track you want and earn XP and money with the amount increasing as you add more laps/restrictions. I'd finally have a reason to use some of my slower cars competitively that have no place in any A-Spec race right now.

For instance I want to race a stock '70 Dodge Charger. If I enter it in one of the "classic" races in A-Spec it's almost a guarantee I'm going to be racing against that crazy Chaparral boxcar or some other outlandish car. So frustrating.

I been hit that wall in my level 26 a-spec, now im a level 23 b-spec and just going to try to get to level 30 and ill never care about leveling anymore

Yeah I have to consciously stop myself buying stuff in GT5 if I want to buy cars like F-GT to keep playing A-spec to completion. I have a decent collection of cars now, but I can't just go out and buy something, and make that money back easily...

That's the one bit that makes me a little sad. I see cars in the lot I would like to buy, just to have, but until I get the FGT I need to keep that in reserve for when it decides to show up again (now that I have the money and level).

For instance, I saw the Spyker (sorry if that's not spelled correctly) car pop up in the used lot. I remember the car being fun to drive in past games. I had not seen it in the lot before, so I bought it. Then, no no! I am below the 4.8M number, so I need to drop what I am doing and run a couple of circles to make the credits back. Then I can go back to what I was doing. B-spec I think.

(I wonder how much of this is this FGT requirement nonsense.)

I also wish there were more race series. What happened to the 4wd race, other then rally? They still have the FF, FR and MR races. I would love a manufacturer race, HP limited races, and personally I would like a WRX/Evo race in a-spec. Or Ford vs. Dodge (like GTO vs. Viper or something). Or a topless (as in no roof!) race, with convertables and open cockpits like the caterham. Or (and this would be my favorite, but would take some work) a race with the kubelwagon amphibious version that is both track and water. And best of all, you win a duck boat if you take first place.

With tracks already there, I would think the permutations could be endless!

I never had this issue.

1) start with licenses, get gold on everything
2) go to special events when you need more experience for licenses
3) finish out licenses
4) finish out special events, gold on everything (except expert Nurburgring)
5) begin races

When racing, use cars that you have already won, but don't just whip out the Ford GT to do Sunday Cup. Race with comparable, or similar cars. When you get into Professional races, use the Ford GT with Racing tires. You should be able to beat most race cars, except the serious prototypes.

6) When you are level 24, buy the FGT and complete Nurburgring Expert special event
7) go back and complete the rest of the races, and out drive the competition. Don't out-tune/out-buy them.

Basically, the "go back and get gold" advice isn't necessarily null. If you get gold, you will get better as a driver, learning how to perfect your technique. This allows you to use slower cars to win races, which means 2 things - more exp points and less cash spent on new cars and mods.

If you hit a wall, it's probably because you used the Minolta, Furai, or ZR-1 RM a little too much to destroy the competition. Now you didn't get the exp you need and you spent all your extra cash.

Sure you could grind it out with your ZR-1 RM at the American challenge at $98k/race, but you aren't getting any better at car control or race skills or learning AI tendencies that you can use to your advantage (because you've probably blown them away in T1 of every race).

...besides we have the GT Academy competition coming up. I'm pretty sure the Indy Oval with the FGT isn't going to be one of the time trials.

Do you find when your hitting your big wall, nothing happens.

I've been trying to gold the final AMG one lap nurburgring challenge and I just can't do it. I spend a couple of hours and I cannot shave 3 seconds off my time. I gave up for now. I've hit my wall for sure.

Just a friendly tip, but there are 2 spots on the ring where you can 'cut' the course (the same ones in GT4 mission 34 or whatever the last mission was). One of them is in sector 1 and the other in sector 2, you probably can find a vid of this somewhere.

If you do this right, you can easily shave 3 secs off.

I'm at mid-level 23 and there are next to no events I am capable of doing that haven't been done on my save. I've been mostly doing Like the Wind for 70,000 Cr. every 3 1/2 mins but I only get 3564 experience off of it.

My current situation:
Historic Racing Car Cup: Only Expert event left for me. Trying in a fully modded Buick Special, little success even with Racing Softs. I think a tune-up will be necessary...
NASCAR Series: Done first race in my #48, but terrible handling on Grand Valley Speedway and can't keep up with others round Daytona. Haven't attempted Race 3 or 4 yet.
German Touring Car Championship: Haven't got anything for it yet. Could get IS-F Racing Concept but don't know how it'll compete against the rest of the field. (How I wish the R8 LMS was Premium... :irked: )
American Championship: Tried Indy in #48, some success but no wins yet. Haven't attempted Laguna Seca yet out of fear (with NASCAR cars having terrible handling and all...:nervous: )
Formula GT: Don't even try me. I can't even get hold of the FGT with my current level (bravo PDI for making an event that unlocks at LV23 when the only car eligible for it is only buyable at LV24... 👎 )

Special events I haven't done yet:
Jeff Gordon NASCAR School Expert (cannot do last event)
GT Rally Expert (haven't properly attempted Gravel or Snow yet)
Seb Loeb Challenge (can't do Eiger or Chamonix)

I have finished all the licenses and as for B-Spec I'm at level 9 at the present moment.

I just hope they hurry up with the online matchmaking so I have multiple ways to earn credits and it wont get boring. I could care less about leveling up, though I'm sure matchmaking will enable leveling up. Its all about the cars for me, thats why I stay broke, soon as I get a few hundred grand or so I quickly blow it on some awesome piece of machinery. Oh so much fun:)

Now I'm off to raise money for one of those Vipers, gona gift it to my little bro as an xmas gift along with GT5 itself, gona tune that thing to perfection. Then I'll go broke again because I'm buying the SLS after that. Rinse, repeat, and again. You know the drill:lol:

THank you for the tip junpeix! I really hope I don't have to go that route but I'm not seeing any other way.. :(

Dude, it's a GAME! I don't want to learn about "how it is in the real world" in a game - games are where I go to escape from the real world. In the real world a tiny fraction of 1% of the people who bought the game would even get to drive an M3, never mind some of the race cars.

I paid 40 quid to be able to play 1000+ cars on 70-odd tracks. I earned the 40 quid by working several boring hours at a boring job. I did this grinding so I could go home for a bit of escapism and what do I find? My entertainment is more boring and repetitive than my job.

I don't expect to rocketjump in real life. I don't expect to have to work during my playtime :grumpy:

Then i got one thing for you buy a game that has more entertainment for less the effort man what else can i say everyone has different goal when playing a game i'm actually entertained with GT5 i know leveling isn't exactly fun but i look beyond that point. See if i can get all the cars in GT5 from the get go i wont remember GT5 as a great game. It's the hard game that you mostly remember and most great games require you to put in some more time than your average casual game. This one is going to be played for years. I'm never disappointed with a game great games that takes more than 100 hours to complete. Everyone has his time schedule and taste that's why there are so many different games targeted at different people. READ the reviews please before buying a game they clearly say its a deep and long game.

PS I know people that have really tight schedules and still complete these games but it takes them lot longer but they have a lot of game for their buck and that's the value right there. Easy games make you feel cheated you pay 40 quid after all you do want it to last.

I started and finished GT4 from beginning to end 4 times. I ended the last save with 550 cars in the garage. I have 550 hours on my F1CE game save. I finished a 7 year career at full race length in F1 2010. I am able to do this because it is simply "FUN". I am retired and have all day and night to play racing video games if I want to.

Unfortunetly, I disagree with your statement. GT5 will not have nearly the life span of it's predesessor simply because the "FUN" factor is compromised by the poorly designed event ladder system. I am nearly to level 30 and I have been having fun mind you, but not to the level that would want to make me play this as I have other games. I am hoping that the online section of the game will be updated to allow it to make up the difference. It needs a few tweeks here and there but it has potential at least

Having just finally got the game, I would have to say it is a rather big disappointment!

For me, GT has always been about the cars. Buy them, race them, upgrade them etc..

GT5 has lost it, 80% through the races (I do not care for licences and challenges), I am at only lvl 17, no cash, and have not purchased one car I wanted to because I had to waste all my money on upgrades etc to win the races.

This is not the GT I know and love, I never expected to buy every car I wanted straight up, but it is just to much to do in order to enjoy what I use to enjoy.

The S licences are stupid, the Ai is so dumb, it is more or less luck to get first, not skill.

Anyway, I will not bitch to much.

Off to grind!!! Hopefully one day I might buy I car I want, lol.

Look at the AI in the license tests like this; you have to win by both being able to avoid use the racing line that you want and avoiding mobile chicanes. The AI is like some of the tyre choices..part of the test.

Agree with your sentiments on GT5 though.

On level 22 now. Grinding is nowhere near in my sight yet. Still tons of stuff to finish for me. I haven't even golded all Expert events yet (Historic still not done and All Stars on Silver) and on Extreme I've only finished two events so far. Also still haven't completely finished AMG Academy and I've not managed to get anywhere in the Sebastian Loeb challenge yet.

So at least for me I've reached level 22 with absolutely no grinding and still tons of stuff to be done before it gets anywhere near boring.

Not sure how other people already get to grinding at this point in the game.

I'm a level 21 and I still have plenty of licenses to do only ic right now silvers and working my way back for gold. AMG challenges are only at silver right now. Plus I am in no hurry I've been taking my time and having fun.

Why you need gain levels so fast? Im 22 and i just started doing professional stage. Getting all licences to gold gives nice exp.

I'm 28, halfway to 29 and I haven't felt like I have been grinding yet. The only exception would be redoing the Laguna Seca endurance race for XP. I will also have to redo Indy 500, and that will certainly be a grind. But so far, not so bad.

I really enjoy the European Series in Extreme. Deep Forest has turned out to be a favorite track of mine and since the AI competition is relatively low (Audi S3 and Lotus Evora is the fiercest competitors) I can test drive any of my european cars and have fun while making 83,000cr and 5,3k xp each go. Have done it countless time and I don't feel like I'm grinding it.

edit: I also finally found the M3 GTR Race Car yesterday, so now I can also lap the Ring for 83,000cr but only with touring cars of course. Schwarzwald series only give 59,000cr so that's not as tempting.

SAD people defend the horrible leveling system

I'm not defending anything. I'm just saying that apparently my 'style of playing' makes it work fine FOR ME. I have not had to grind and I don't think I'll have to for a long time. The fact that there's a level 28 here who still doesn't have to grind gives me enough hope for now :)

I haven't played GT5 in 5-6 days now, only cause it's boring when you're at a high level. Racing the same 1 race for most points is boring. They made this game to limited all around, from the leveled races to the used cars you can find and buy early on. It's such slow progression, I don't care to play it. It's kinda sad really. No other GT game had this issue. Starting a new game has no rewards, cause then you also have to be bored once more. Grinding isn't fun. B-Spec isn't fun. GT4 was perfect, you can let B-Spec race for you, or you can do it all. They should have kept that style and just made 3/4 times more races in the career. 45 events isn't much. There should be 200-300 events to do. Events don't take heavy coding. That's just laziness that we get so little. Also, we should get a Game+ where everything unlocks once you get 100% so the game isn't dull to come back to.

👍 someone that knows what they talking about we never had these problems in gt4 which is better than this in so many ways right now

No, what he means, he IS grinding. Learn to read carefully.

All cause you can do the same series over and over and enjoy it testing out cars, doesn't mean that he isn't grinding.
