Hello,

I wanted to know if anyone had a detailed breakdown of a Gold lap time for Licence Test S-6 (Viper at Laguna Seca)

Despite this track being my 'default' training circuit, I have 'hit the wall' at 1.17:560, a lousy 0.760 seconds away from Gold. I have finally decided that this is my limit in Automatic, and that to go the extra mile, I will need to be in Manual. I have only just switched to manual, and can manage a 1.18:300 so far...

I can see where I am losing a few tenths here and there, but just can't seem to hook up 'the perfect lap'...

Any suggestions? A list of sector times from your own Gold laps would be useful!...

Cheers,
TM

I have not got gold on this yet, but when I first started trying to get it done i was having trouble getting bronze but then I changed to manual and got silver. The main thing that helped me is that I never went in to first gear. Always stay in secon even on the really slow corners. That way you reduce the chance of wheel spin and can accelerate smoother out of the corners.

Thanks for that, I have given it a try on manual and have noticed a definite improvement by staying in second gear round the slow bits (well, the top of the corkscrew and the last left hander, being about the only slow bits on the circuit!)...

That definatly was a hard Lisence Test. I ran a 1:16.760 on the US version to get the gold which placed me at a lousy 41st position on gt3times.com. My advice is just to keep doing it 740,209,008 times a day till you get it. Thats what it takes is just practice and consistancy. Try messing with the ASM and TCS. Now I know with the Viper you will need the TCS left on, but turning off the ASM may give you a little better turning if you are light out of the corners. Watch the demo over and over and over and try to follow the same lines and braking points as the Demo. A manual tranny will help alot with the braking and control of the car through the corners which it needs all the help it can get. Good Luck!!!

Why do you try to get Gold on S6 while you 'only' have 20 Gold licences ?

S6 is one of the licence I still have to deal with, and yet I'm 42-3-3.

A2 for example is a good practice for the first turn, and IA5 for the corkscrew part. Do you have them in gold already ?

I believe getting the golds is mainly a matter of experience.
Of course, you can be lucky (I got gold on IA2 on my very first attempt and A8 on my third one), but most of the time you have to practice to get the perfect lap : it took me about 300 tries to lap under 1'11.000 on S4 license and I remember on R5 having run 55 times to improve my silver time by 0.001 s.

I recently ran again TT2 (Miata/Trial Mountain), and in only 3 runs I improved my old record by 2.5 s !

So, keep on trying and you'll get the gold.
(I wonder how long the guys who run it in 1'14 did practice...)

The only gold I ever had problems with are the last one with the toyota GT One. Although it seems everytime I restart the liscence tests are easier. It also seems easier if you get gold on A and B.

...And you get so bored of having no problems with the licences that you decided to "Drive the mini ". :D

If you take a look at my GT3 garage the first car I have in there is the mini. I really don't like the old ones that much, but the new ones I would love to own. They will be in GT4:) . Although completly underpowed in reallity and in the game the hold a corner great for an ff car.

Getting gold on the lower licenses does help with the higher ones. There's a driving lesson in every test.

If you are referring to S-8, that test is dramatically easier with manual transmission. The car is too powerful and too light to drive without some way to control traction and the automatic transmission likes to drop into 1st and 2nd gear way too much--causing traction to go away. I never drop below third gear on that test. My best time is 1:27.645. By staying in a higher gear at low speed, you can hit the accellerator sooner and harder without spinning out. It's manual traction control.

Back to the subject, S-6, this test gave me more fits than any other. I spent months doing nothing but S-6. I conservatively estimate 3000 attempts before I got it. I cursed. I threw my controller. I even quit playing GT3 for a few months because of this test. Manual helped a little but not a lot--mostly in the corkscrew and the final turn. Oddly enough, those weren't the turns where I lost the most time to the demo. The turns I had the most trouble with were turn two (hard right) and turn four (hard left). Getting just the right level of slow-in/fast-out was key. If you don't carry speed through those turns, you are not going to make gold. Check where the demo car seems to be pulling away from your replay. It will help you figure out what you need to fix.

Sound advice, mate. I do watch the demos, but only before I attempt to do the lap.... I hadn't realised (or atleast remembered) that your ghost also appears in the demo.... I will set to work on it again over the weekend... (not tonight, since I will be on the beer probably!)

Thanks alot,

TM

If you lap it in 1'18+ like I do your ghost doesn't appear in the demo for a long time. Let's say until turn 2 or 3. :D :D :D :D :D

To quote Leonard Shelby, 'I've done it!' ... :D

1.16:675 after about 200 attempts!

(Approx splits on my gold lap 1 - 20.570 2 - 37.430 3 - 56.550 4 - 1.16:675; My best splits overall 1 - 20.500 2 - 37.350 3 - 56.210... I was raging when I got that last split time (0.5 sec better than the demo) only to nerf it on the last corner (hit a cone!) :banghead:

Thank you to everyone who posted some advice, it really helped, especially watching my own ghost alongside the demo... very informative.

I'm going to have that time tattooed on my chest! (...not!)

I could have sworn that I posted in this thread... oh well.

Anywho, I gave it another shot again today (I have been stuck on this test for a while) and after struggling with it for about 3 hours I finally golded it. Having done all the rest of the S license tests but S6 and S8 I then went to S8 just for fun. I didn't think I would seriously do any good, I just wanted to check out the car and the course to have a head start for another day. Well....I was hooked on improving my time and I golded S8 in less than 30 minutes! It was freaking awesome. Check out my free car:

1'31.000 for gold on S8
Bull****, this is silver time on PAL version. Did PD mean something about US players driving ability ? :trouble: :trouble: :trouble:

Edit :
Good censoring tool ! I hadn't pay attention and had typed the full word, and the 4 last letters of it were automatically replaced by ****.

Don't forget, we get more time, but we must do the tests with full ASM/TCS on, and no option to turn it off.

On the licences as well? The Japanese version has ASM/TCS on during the TT's but not the licences.

Yup, licenses and TTs, no choice about it. It blows.

BTW your giant-text sig is way too large: please cut it down to size=5 or so, if you must have giant text.

Actually, that's the time for all NTSC users so that would include Canadians and Japanese as well.

Oh, and I beat the PAL time.

I just got gold on it after the third try lol.I won bronze yesterday and it took me ages to get it.The Missing Link's guide at gt3imes really does help quite a bit.

Hey Neon_Duke, when's the last time you ran a Licensce Test on the US NTSC version? Driving aids are mandatory for TT's ONLY, ALL licsence tests ASM and TCS are OFF;) Don't you remember spinning out that Griffith on SSR11(Test S-7) a few times before you golded it?:D They just made some of our times easier to beat for some reason, I think mabye a couple are actually harder than the PAL vesion however.
