The time to get is 5.47.5 or something isn't it, how much did you beat it by?

Do you reackon you could improve your lap time? I have seen the demo video of it and that guy driving makes it look easy.

5:47 is gold I think, silver is 6:20 and bronze is 6:47... something like that. My time was about 6:24... and that was with me actually being quite conservative now that I think about it. I was struggling simply to finish the course, I kicked my aggression down a notch, just tried to finish the lap. I imagine that silver would be easy, considering how much I've played both GT4 and Nurburgring over the past few weeks. Not sure about getting gold though. I don't think it's the time/technique that's hard... what's hard is stringing it all together in one whole lap. I guarantee you that if you did the course in four sections, we'd all be able to get great lap times around the gold time, because you only need to be perfect for a minute and a half or so each time. But to be near perfect for 5 and a half minutes... that's tough :)

That's what the gold time is there for, I guess... for those that really want to push themselves :)

The trick in Nurburgring, I believe is knowing which corners to slow down around. There are so many long twisting sections that you really don't have to brake for. If you know when to brake and when not to, then you maintain a higher speed for a much longer time. You can gain two or three seconds on an average player on nearly every high-speed corner because you know you can take it at full-speed whereas the average player will brake and drop down to a speed 100km/h slower than you. Eventually it all adds up.

"I think that john guy is more into the racing side of GT. Unless he's got his PS2 networked up i don't know who he'd race against cos the AI is crap..." -McLaren_Man; Post #18

Well, welcome to GTPlanet, McLaren Man. This is "John Man." Countless times I've heard of AI talk. This and that. Heck, "Pro Race Driver" was thuggish in more ways than one. Play it and you'll see what I mean, dude. And I'm not the multiplayer type, so I don't know that game too well.

I don't care about AI at all. All I care about is me mashing down the "X" button, speedfreaking like I've never speedfreaked before. I care more about racing than going through test after test. I do License Tests in a basis of "set them up, knock them down."

Nurburgring is tough, but it's a course with the most buffer for getting a gold simply because the lap so long. I've only finished the ring 4 times, first three with silver and the last gold with a time of 5'44".414 But I drove 'carefuly' for the last 2 mintues of the lap. Getting into the 5'30's shouldn't be a problem (considering that you have golds in all the other licenses already).

Moosejaw - I do believe in your friends advice. Don't overwork yourself for a gold on one sitting... take a break and you'll find your times improve. FYI, it took me about 6x30 min sessions to get the gold on S-16 :)

Yeah, normally I don't overwork myself. If I don't see myself completing something in the near future, I'll take a break. It's just with S-16, I could feel that if only I could finish it, I'd pass it. The time wasn't the problem, it was just getting to know the course. I was right too... otherwise I would never have gotten to sleep! :P I can't go to sleep knowing that I failed to accomplish something I'd been trying to achieve for the past couple of hours.

I think the license test have become a bit harder. Especially w/ the wheel. I've tried trying the test w/ the controller to see how different it'd be, and it makes some test alot easier. Especially those w/ no traction control. The last ia test was driving me nuts. The one w/ the Merc Evolution 2 on the 'ring. Man that thing is twitchy, hard to control it with all the friggin bumps in the road.

Pace cars suck and help you at the same time. I'm better at certain sections of the track than others, so I tend to speed up or brake really late on certain corners and either hit the pace car or overtake it. This forces you to maintain a fast pace at all times so you won't hit/overtake the pace car on just one section, which forces you to be a better driver. Or just slow you down immensely.

lo. stick with the b-8. it took me like a week strait, but perservere, young grasshopper! it'll come soon enough. and yesh, the tests have had different difficulty thruout the installments, but its just how they were programmed. good luck, and godspeed, Johnny! :sly:

I doubt I'll bother with golds. Still it looks like most of the silver/gold prizes are attainable through other means so :)

I quite enjoy doing 'hot laps' from time to time, but most licenses are just a chore. Only license I've ever enjoyed was that S2000 coffee break in GT : P.

Sounds like they got the system down better for the licences. I have the same goals as most here it seems. I get all bronze, then play the game with my crappy used car, I think its alot more fun to work your way up from the bottom rung of the ladder and make it to the top with a garage full of awsome cars. After I get so far or after a long break from GT or if I feel my skills need refining then I run the licences over again with silver and golds in mind.

I game it just the same way as you described it here. I'm not going to take a hole day for 1 license test. If I have bronze its good and I go to the next test.

I have an other question you made know. You can win the Ford Model T with S all gold. But is there an other way to win or to get that car? Because I really want to drive the slowest car of the game :)

It isn't even CLOSE to being the slowest car in the game.

There's two 1886 Benz/Daimler Motorised carriages, with 1hp between them.

If the Model T isn't the slowest car in the game, what's the novelty of the Model T Ford?

Again, even less incentive for me to get all gold heh :P

that model T is maybe a stupid car but very nice that they putted it in the game. I can't wait to drive it but I also now that I probably can't get all golds on that S licenses

Opinion: 20 PS for a car sucks, but if its the model T, its history, I wouldnt mind getting it
Question: I'm not sure if its been CLEARLY stated yet, but I'm assuming/wondering... do you have to get a certain percent of the game complete before you unlock endurance races.. or is it like GT3 where license tests determined which races you have access to?

That Model T goes right back to me talking about "racing history." If GT2 didn't do it, then certainly GT4 gets you accustomed into being a fan of fast machinery, and then not-so-fast machinery. Keep in mind. In GT2, I raced the slowest race in history- Daihatsu Midget D-Type Race at Midfield Raceway. Top speed: 76 mph! Was I a ticked off black dude? You best believe. I had to win it, so I wasn't seriously bothered about racing this pickup truck. Sure, I'd rather give a MKIV Toyota Supra a racing mod with a Stage 2 turbo and sticky tires and try to go past 150 mph, but there are many ways to enjoy Gran Turismo. And if PD knows a way, damn it to hell, they'll deliver.

So I wouldn't really call it stupid, but more like "racing history." Keep in mind. Back before even World War 1, you were pretty fast if you could hit 11, 20, or maybe 60 mph. Look at all the races that's been around between 1903 and 1928. The Indy 500 began in 1911. The 24 Hours of Le Mans began in 1923. The only way you can love old cars like that is to imagine racing back then. How can you appreciate history if you don't understand history? I don't think these much older machines are THAT bad.

I'm not mad at you, I'm not complaining about them, but these machines were certainly good in their day. If they weren't good machines or at least historically-significant, it wouldn't be in GT4.

yes your right. And PD is smart to put all kind of cars from all kinds of era in the game to reach as many people as possible.

You couldn't be more right, Liquid Li0n. I've talked about "something for everyone" in GT4, and the game has plenty of that. I think since its introduction, the GT series was marketed as "an encyclopedia of cars" as Kazunori Yamauchi said once before or after GT2 was released. How can you have an encyclopedia without keeping your eyes to the past? Perhaps the oldest car in GT1 was that Corvette Sting Ray. That was in around 1963 at least. Now look at the oldest machine. The Daimler Motor Coach was made in 1886. You do the math. This machine came about 57 years before the Sting Ray. I don't think there's ever been a racing game going through the 19th Century to find classic automobiles that you can race. If the world's stuck on Forza, at least give GT4 some credit for digging this deep into automotive history. I'm pretty sure that the next comment would be "But John, how can you have automotive history if you don't have Ferrari, Porsche, or Lamborghini to race with?" My only answer would be "well, you can't have it all." I respect all three makes, and perhaps they've been tough to come by for PD. That's what I think. I don't think about this like "they (the GT fans) can't have Ferrari, Porsche, and/or Lamborghini." Maybe they've been trying to get them in and failed, but the inclusion of one of the first cars ever made has to put some smiles on auto enthusiasts' faces.

I'm actually happy for the range of cars in this game. From 1886 to the future. Can't really beat that. Unless you're totally greedy and spoiled, you're grateful to even have this many cars in a game like this.

thats right john. Enthousia of Forza isn't the same as GT. Also is it that everybody already knows the GT series and knows they are good. Actually when you have so much cars in the game you actually don't miss those 3 big brands. + you have RUF instead of Porsche and that VW Nardo instead of the Lambo Gallardo so... no problem for me :)

And even this 3 makes were in the game, it wasn't still don't good enough for some people. Its never good for some people

I would think GT4 would be a better "encyclopedia of cars" if they had also included notable cars from the 30's, 40's and 50's instead of having the very earliest cars and then fast forwarding to the 60's (grabbing one of the first VWs along the way).

KY said that he would love to have twice as many cars as that in the final game now but the PS2 can not make it.

yes that true. But I think they learned it this time and will only include more and more cars and tracks and accesoires in the further versions of GT.

As long as they put all those missing subaru"s from GT2 in then it's all ok :)
