Not sure about your router but you can set most to allow connections from specific MAC addresses only. If you set this, only your computer will be able to connect.

You have a few options. Just keep in mind you're in a shared house and that means it's supposed to be shared resources so long as they pay their share. If you're paying for the internet access then you really should establish that as a rule with your roommates

1) set up your WPA security - no router should ever be without a secured connection
2) set up mac address filtering - that'll allow only the specified pc
3) get a router compatible with dd-wrt (a custom firmware). Use DD-WRT to enable QoS traffic shaping. This will allow everyone to use the internet per normal but will shape traffic to allow your gaming experience to proceed unhindered. This is common practice in large corporate environments as well as any properly configured VOIP setup.

unfortunately the livebox doesn't support qos traffic shipping.
i'll try to manage it with the mac filtering cause i don't want to buy another router.
thanks a lot

QoS it up man. Shared house, shared service. Don't let 'em mooch off you. Ask them to pay for their share of the bill. QoS allows fair access for everyone 👍

Linksys WRT54GL can be had for under $50 now and it's moddable out of the box - just be sure to get the GL model and not the WRT-54G.

So you have no password protection on your net connection?

Where do you live....?

Or the GS, which should be sitting on the shelves of your local PCWorld. I picked mine up for £15 in the clearance bit, and it's been great with DD-WRT.

But most important to remember, having no protection is just an invitation for deep infections that can be difficult to remove.

Unless of course you know the history of the partners sharing your network. But you can never be sure that there aren't any outsiders in the equation that could be spreading viruses to those "trusted" others.
