Jeff Gordon School the ASM is on by Default and can't be Changed in the Options Menu

But...........

If you have a DFGT when the race Starts you can use the Magic Button :D

I got GOLDS in the Advanced Section when I Switched the ASM OFF

Ona Personell Note that Extreme Race In Nascar where you do 10 Laps round Daytona is a **** ache took me god knows how many attempts to win it . Finally went against the flow and used Racing Hard Tryes as I found the Softs when In corner had too much Grip and the MPH would drop lots .

With the Hard Tyres it was Easier still took a few more Attempts but Finally I WON yehaa :D

Evidence :D:D:D

Why the F%$# do they do TSC, ASM, and ABS on the Stock Cars anyway? They don't exist in real NASCAR.

Typical PD....

Maybe because the majority of people who will buy GT5 more than likely play with assists turned on. The people on this website are the more hardcore players, and we certainly don't make up the majority. So you either make the majority happy, and have the hardcore people complain, or you make the hardcore people happy and make the majority complain. Either way, people will always complain. 👍

But it makes it a thousand times harder. That doesn't relate

how?! i been stuck with the event where u over take 4 cars and i can never become 1st!!!!

If you have a DFGT, turn off the ASM with your dial thingamabob. If you have any other wheel, do this (from 0010111 at GameSpot forums):

I haven't seen this talked about yet on this board, and I bet there are a lot of people unaware of this function if you haven't read the manual in depth or explored the controller configuration menu.

The RA Menu allows you to tune some aspects of your car while you're actually on the track. You can adjust Traction Control, Stability Management, Anti-lock braking, 4WD distribution, and Brake Bias; and best of all you can change your adjustments throughout the race. Unlike the quick-tune menu that has to be unlocked, the RA Menu can be accessed at any time.

First, you've got to set your controller up for RA Access. I reccommend assigning the R3 button to "(RA function) Show Menu" and then assigining up and down on the control pad to "(RA function) Select+/-." Then all that's left is to assign left and right on the control pad to "(RA function) Adjust -/+"
(TIP: When all buttons are assigned, the symbols should read +, -, -, + from top to bottom or you'll have the adjustments backwards)

Now it's as simple as pressing R3 during a race to bring up your new RA Menu, and then using the control pad to quickly and easily make adjustments during a race. Enjoy.

very helpful, for everything, thanks a lot.

Is this possible with just a regular controller? I set up the controls exactly as specified, and I can bring up the menu and scroll through the different things, but I cannot change the settings on any of the things that are locked on the regular menu, such as ASM. What am I missing?

No problem! I read somewhere here about RA Functions and didn't have a clue what the Hell people were talking about, so I Googled it.

Check to make sure you didn't make a mistake with Select+/- and Adjust -/+ when remapping your D-Pad. I did and made a mess of things, but it just took a moment to sort things out.

I double checked to make sure I did it right, and I definitely did. For some reason the options that are locked at the regular menu are grayed out on the RA menu as well, and so I cannot change them no matter what. I feel like I have to be missing something somewhere, since it has worked for everyone else. I looked through all the other options and I didn't find anything out of place, so I am not sure what is wrong.

EDIT: I found the problem. You can only change ASM to off from the RA menu if you do not touch anything in the regular pre-race options menu.

I have to laugh. It was in GT4 and had already been talked about in quite a few GT5 threads on GTPlanet.

:gtpflag: GTPLANET - the BEST GT resource.

That's a great tip and just what I was looking for. I ran the level 21 events last night and golded the first two but just couldn't get better than silver on the final one.

It took me an age to gold the second one come to think of it; I was trying all sorts to get ahead without bumping into anything.

I made sure every aid that was possible to switch off was but for that ASM. I had taken to running a really high line around Daytona to maintain the speeds which, was not easy

I will try this soon. 👍

EDIT:Update - success on first attempt!

Thanks for the tip. Little is not the word for it. I not only golded the 2 laps of Daytona challenge, I went back and golded all the bronzes - first go. So yeah, it was a big tip for me! I also have been getting golds on all my licenses since remembering to shut off the "training wheels". Hats off to you.

Setting the ABS to off in the driver options also turns the ASM off.

SO much easier .

Hint : remember to reset the values when coming back from other events.

Uncle Harry's method works a treat for us SIXAXIS users. I guess defeating ABS turns the ASM & TC off too for realism, since a real car's ASM & TC rely on ABS sensors & actuators.

+1 more thank you OP for this tip . I got gold in the second & third race after a few tries, but couldn't get better than third in the first race (Daytona pit stop). I re-checked my ABS setting, I accidentally left it on 1 instead of off. I'm now the proud owner of a Carl Edwards Aflac Ford Fusion, which Bob is using to great effect as I write this :D.
