***edit....I'm changing this thread to my comparison and reveiw of the two logitech wheels and Gt3/Gt4P.... scrol down to the first post of mine from 02.03.04 for the beginning. ***

So last night my Logitech driving force (the Gt3 one) died one me after about 2 weeks of use. I'm no so pissed about the money, I got it on sale (50% off), but what I am pissed about is that in the two weeks I got very used to driving with a wheel and left foot braking...

So are there any known issues with the new "pro" GT4 wheel?

Anyone who used the driving force wheel (GT3) and now the the pro wheel? Any quirks? Differences...I hope it has a more solid feel.

I have only been testing it for about six hours but so far ive noticed nothing odd about it accept for the fact that the FFB is kicka**.
The feel in the new wheel is a lot more solid then the GT3 one. I can only say, its absolutley wonderful!

//Eddie.

screw it...I have spent the mornign searching here for known issues on the pro wheel (avoiding opening photoshop here at work). i called a local store here in NYC and will go pick one up at 4pm and go home (where I hope to have GT4P waiting in the mailbox) and see if it is better than the GT3 version....

If it blows I will put it on ebay. if it breaks I'm going after logitech for a replacement!

well i found it wired that it broke in 2 weeks cause i bought mine last year and it was used 1 year before i bought so its been working for 2 years now and i dont have one problem,i cant get the new GT4 wheel cause they dont sell it here in jordan but im going to get one in summer when i visit my bro in montreal

Theres your problem.:D

hahahaha....well it was a "big name nation-wide" store, not like Joey's bargin basement. They had a the price down to $29.99 for the wheel for a week as a promo of some sort (I saw lots of NASCAR banners around) and I remember some NASCAR ps2 games on display. Either way as far as I know the things was new. Box was sealed and all the bits in their respective plastic wrappers etc. The wheel was working fine until last night when the "stuck" shifter problem started when I turned full left and within 30mins I couldn't turn left at all. I restarted the ps2, re-calabrated, all of that. The wheel never again turned left AT ALL!!! I had the wheel less than 2 weeks actually, 12 days to be exact.

Eitherway I just got home with a brand new spanking Logitech Force Feedback PRO, I bought the stores $15...no questions asked product replacement and will be filling out the registration card for logitech. I am going to run some laps tonight with the new wheel and I'll post my comparison and initial feedback here....

Soooooooo.....

As you can tell I had a Logitech driving Force (DF) wheel that crapped out on me in under 2 weeks (12 days) so I went and bought the new Driving Force PRO (DFP)....

I spent aabout 3.5 hours with it last night and I gotta say I am very impressed and pleased with my purchase. Then again i loved the DF when i got it.

Initially I was hit with the MUCh improved feel of the rubber on the wheel, much better grip...though maybe too grippy as my palms were a little red about 30 or so minutes. I think that will smooth out. The DFP has a MUCH more solid feel to it, both in just holding it and in game play. The wheel turns my realistically, progressively if you wheel getting more resistance as your turn deeper. Not enough though to feel wrong. I think this is the mechanics of the inside giving a smoother feel AND a better execution of the force feedback. You can set the force feedback to 60% and 100%, I found 100% was too much in GT3 (like driving a car with NO power steering) but that the 60% setting was just right. The actual delivery of the force feedback is MUCh smoother, not more jarring and rattling mess like the DF used to, especially on rally stages.

Another cool feature is the self centering. You boot the ps2 up and the wheel spins around and centers itse;f automatically. I still went in and calibrated the wheel and noticed more things. The turn to all left and all right is MUCh more, going to the ends of the screen, instead of stopping a few inches from it like the DF did. Also the centering is more accurate it seems and the gas/brake pedals when pressed pushed the green bar ALL the way up and are equal on both, unlike the DF.

ou can also choose to use the paddle shift or the stick to the right for shifting, whcih is regardless of all the other improvements in the DFP makes it better than the DF. Why? In slow speed class c cars it used to seem silly shifting with the paddles. The cars go so slow that it is actually nice to have to rech off the wheel and shift, though one handed driving with this wheel is still hard for me but due to the improved grip and move of the buttons to the center of the wheel much easier to ge tyour hand in a 10 o'clock position to turn one handed. Then on race cars I can switch back to the paddles which I prefer in the ultra fast high speed cars. It feels very natural. I do prefer the paddles on the DF over the DFP but I'll live. If anything the DFP paddles, really buttons (L1 and R1 now) feel more positive and closer to what i would thing a race car's paddle shift would feel like.

The pedals. MUCH MUCH better. The platform they are on is much longer and solid so your heels actually are on the platform and not the floor pushing the pedals around. The action of pressing the pedals on the DFP feels smoother, less mechanical. I have to admit I agian prefer the actual pedal design on the DF, the gas pedal on the DFP feels too long (I mean the actual plastic part) and again i wish the platform could adjust the angle of the pedals because they are slightly too flat for me and my sitting position, but I'll live it isn't bad...jsut could be better. The gas pedal feels agian more progressive over the DF version. the DF always felt like it was on/off to me and it was hard to just add a little gas. It rocks now on the DFP. BUT! The brake!!!!!!! 100% improvement in fell AND use in the game. Now that you have 100% braking and a smoother feel in the pedal it is alot easier to brake, maybe too easy though as I was initially locking up into turns due to the much improved feel. i was so used to pounding on the brake in the DF just to get it to work. Not anymore!

oh and the max turn lock. On the DF it seemed mechanical, like the wheel hit a chunk of plastic. On the DFP, in GT3 since it doesn't support the 900* deal, the "lock" seems done by software, not mechanically. So when you reach max turn (note - since in the calibration you have MORE turn you I actually was hitting the max turn much less on tight corners with the DFP)..so when your reach max turn it is a smooth stop with a little "bounce" like a real car. Nice!

So ya....the DFP is considerably better than the DF. No surpriseI guess...but the surprise to me is just how much better it is. All around.

Now I bought this at a gaming store in Manhattan, a nationwide chain, I bought thait $15 no questions asked replacement option AND the first thing i did when i opened the box was register it on register.logitech.com since I have had an issue with the DF dying so fast. If this one dies I will use my replacement option and if that one dies I am going after Logitech. I hope for the best but do feel a but burned from the DF. I have used a few logitech mice and tablets on PCs and have never had an issue so i expect a good product from Logitech. I'll write my DF off as a dud.

I'll post back here with updates over the next weeks as to how the wheel is holding up, etc.

I should have GT4 Prologue this week and will get the play with the 900* feature on the DFP...I'll post about that once I get it.

Also any quetions specifically about the feel/performance of the DF vs. the DFP that I didn't cover here just ask. Keep in mind though there is another thread here (use the search, key words logitech and pro) with lots of pics and video of the DFP, look there too for that stuff. I'll jsut answer "feel" questions btween the two wheels.

I hope this helps those of you on the fence. The $150 price tag is high for a ps2 peripheral (to me it is)...but it is so far worth every penny.

scuderia229,

Thanks for your input. :) I have the wheel on order, and hopefully...I'm going to receive it on Friday. :)

Finally, a thread which compares the buggy DF with the DFP. I hesitated to buy the DFP because I as afraid that it would have the same problem(s) as the DF, especially the brake pedal problem.

Good to see that with the DFP you can actually brake 100%. I brought the DF back after 1 day because of the braking problem. I know the shop, and the shop knows I'm carefull with my stuff, so they took it back and I got my money back.

Now I'll return the money for a DFP I guess... ;)

Now for the next option part, the playseat.

No the brake is solid on the DFP...if anything I could use a little LESS brake...but I'll get used to it and it can be adjusted for. It is very noticable coming from the DF....

After visiting this site for some time now, I’m writing my first posting.

In the box of my new DFP says “feel the road, bump, walls and crashes with incredible detail”. This is my first ever wheel but my DS2 seams to vibrate a lot more, actually crashes against the wall I can’t feel them at all and rally mode is not that different from tarmac. There’s no apparent difference between the 60% and 100% force feedback settings but the 900 degrees mode is working fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks to ya’ll

Dolande

Just got my DFP and I'm not totally sure about this thing. It's cool and everything but I'm having some issues.

First of all, has anyone else found that the wheel seems to lock up when you start sliding sideways. I turn the wheel and turn in to the skid and I can see that the wheel on the car doesn't respond. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm sure there's a way to fix it.

I figured it out. I changed the steering setting from simulation to pro and it allows me to turn the wheels when I'm in a skid now.

WOW!!!

I love this wheel now! I'm really glad I switched from sim to pro!

Can someone tell me how to set the force feedback at a lower setting?

This wheel is great, I love it, and have played through 45% of GT3 in 2 weeks with it. no ASM or TCS, and this wheel is amazing!!!!

my only problems have been

GT3 messing up on the FF control.

and

The shifter was loose enough, where if I hit rumble strips or raced rally, it would upshift by its self, usually so fast from vibrating, that it would just go from 5th to 1st.....lol

so I folded up a little gauze and put it in the front of the shifter slot (upshift side), and now it works perfectly, no bouncy, shaky shifter, nice and solid.

I went back through all of the license tests with the wheel. My arm is sore now. :)

I'm still significantly slower with the wheel than with the DS2 (of course I've only been at it for a day and a half). Can anyone comment on how long it took them to get up to speed on the wheel?

i started using a wheel about a month ago, this after a full year of playing GT3 with the DS2. I think I am finally beginning to be faster with the wheel now over the DS2. In fact when I go back and play GT3 with the DS2 I am at least .3 secs slower per-lap.

Also....It's been 21 days since i bought my GTFP wheel and I have no issues yet. In fact the little issues I had with it at first (sticky wheel turn, odd force feedback behavior in GT4P) have all bit disappeared...

I can say i am a satisfied GTFP owner now, 21 days afrer the fact. At least it lasted longer than my GTF wheel! I'll keep checking back in.

Still practicing with the wheel. I'm at least 1.5 seconds per lap (at laguna) slower with the wheel than I am with the DS2.

I'm wondering how it's even possible that I could catch up to the DS2 when I think about what I do with that little controller.

I had the older driving force version last year for a few days, and had the same problem. With the DS2 you can go from full-left to full-right in half a second. With a wheel that will take you much longer.

Particularly when the car breakes out, I am quicker to correct it with the DS2. Still, the feeling of a wheel is great, and I think it should ultimately get you the better times, since you can place the car more consistent when entering a corner.

ANy thought on this by the faster guys?

do you put it in your laps? clamp it onto a desk? are you sitting on a couch, or what?

i was wondering whether or not i should get the lap attachment. i haven't bought the wheel yet, but i was wondering your opinions.

in my apartment i have several papasan chairs in front of my tv, and so i was wonderint whether i needed to have a desk, and use like a desk chair type set up, or what. thanks!

I really love my GTFP, but I was wondering how far your wheels turn in 200 degree mode in GT 3. Mine turns only 180 max (90 to the left and 90 to the right).

[/I] Well, i searched the forums and found out it turns 180 degrees.

my friend had bought one, less than a week ago and he has already returned it. we used it for about 4 days and he said the ffb stopped working completely and the ffb motor was making an awkard noise.
what other wheels are you guys using or reccommending?

Are you sure it's a Driving Force Pro? Well, if it is, just exchange it for another one because it's the best wheel for the Playstation 2.

yeah, he just got the thing. he said he turned hard left once and it never went left after that so he returned it. drifting with dual shock sucks. i miss that steerign wheel.
how is the mad catz wheel, is it less durable?

I wouldn't go for the mad catz wheel. It's not as great as the GT Force Pro. So your friend should just get a new GT Force Pro. He just got a defective wheel :(

I just got this wheel and I must say... A' JEAH!

One small issue though. When I'm playing GT3 with the 90 degree mode that the game is programmed for, the wheel bouces back and forth if I ever let go of it.

Like, it'll turn left about 5 degrees, then right 5 degrees and keep repeating this with increasing pace until the cars stops.

The force feedback is pretty strong, so my arms tend to get tired, and whenever I try to rest my arms, say, on a straight stretch, the wheel goes mental.

Wtf?
