Just got my first wheel and struggling a little. After many years of the ds3 theres quite a learning curve. I'm having to drive with srf on to stop from spinning out all the time. How should I set it? Normally I only have abs1 with ds3.

1. Amateur or sim? (sim at moment)
2. Force feedback? (3 at moment)
3. Power steering on/off? (on for now)
4. Does controller sensitivity make a difference?

Any help is much appreciated. Tried searching but couldn't find anything concise as I needed.

Cheers BLACKNESS78

Oh and last question: is there a quicker way of getting reverse when driving with paddles than using the clutch and gear stick?

None of that stuff works for the G27 so you've got the only settings already!
And reverse is accessible by using the triangle button, which is the top button on the shifter.

Thank you for reverse solution. Do you have this wheel. What general settings do you use for racing?

Yeah I do :) I have all aids off except abs 1. Although running without abs is incredibly fun if you can modulate it properly :D

Even though I know that I am forever trying to use the paddles to get reverse. By the time I realise what I am doing I have lost too many positions to win :(

This GT5 / G27 thin is a major FU :(

Cool, guess it's gonna take a bit to get used to. Definitely a workout compared to the ds3!

1. Sim
2. personal pref (but mine is set @ 7)
3. OFF
4. i never touch it

i would highly recommend learning to drive it w/o driving aids except Abs, you'll hate it at first but you'll benefit from it later...bottom line- practice makes perfect :)

I just got a G27 two weeks ago. I spent the first week golding all the license tests. It still felt awkward but easier to gold all my silver tests. I really got to break it in this week with the Lambo Seasonal and loving it. I'm still not as fast as I was with the DS3 but definitely a lot more satisfied. I still just need to fine tune my throttle input but it is so fun.

Only thing that I could recommend is turn TCS off for the tests.

Get used to clutch/H-shifter as fast as possible. See you then at granturismoleague.com 👍

Tried the clutch/shifter last night and got the dissaproving look from the wife on the noise front. Paddles for my late night sessions I guess.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to do exactly that.

Run the AMG Specials as well, doing the Nurburing over and over will break you into your G27 well and good.

Not quite related, but one thing I miss is a sequential shifter tho. Sometimes at tight turns I'll lose my orientation of the paddles and feel the urge to hit the stick...

1. SIM
2. 8 or max (3 if I'm going to drive an X1)
3. power steering OFF
4. sensitivity MAX but I don't know if it actually makes a difference.

To really enjoy your g27 online, join low hp or low pp races and use the manual H shifter for some realistic driving. Higher HP cars will make you miss your shifts and most often than not you'll be getting stuck in neutral. Paddle shifting is fine as well except when turning more than 180 degrees I can't keep track of where is up and down paddle making me think that the Thrustmaster T500 is much better designed with the stationary paddle shifter. Another con for the G27 is the steering wheel is too small and FFB doesn't center the wheel fast enough making me over adjust/oversteer quite often.

Cool, I might try a high ff setting tonight. O know what you mean about the oversteer. Not quite as easy as just a flick of the thumb on the ds3.

The G27 FFB doesn't function quite well in GT5. When you turn the steering wheel it doesn't center back quick enough so I tend to correct it but end up with frequent oversteer and happy fish tailing. No its not like the DS3 where the car will go back straight with just a flick of the thumb. Oh plus the FFB doesn't let you feel how the car is behaving like if your are sliding or such not like before. I don't know what PD did but its just not the same anymore. The G27 is still a nice wheel. Brings the fun in the game. The shifter I don't mind the clunking sound it does. It actually makes it even more real kind off.

BLACKNESS78,

If you find a silencing mod that works well enough to avoid "that look" please post. I remember that look with my Actlabs gear and ended up never using my shifter. This will be a big point for me when buying the G27...

Just bought a G27 and am disappointed with the Force Feedback as it is programmed in GT5. It's just unrealistic.

Issues:
1. At initial turn in, the FFB distributes as much force as it does when you grab a whole handful of wheel. It should be a bit more progressive if I am just making small adjustments with little turns of the wheel.
2. The FFB does not recognize when I am mid-corner versus drivng in a straight line. If I turn in well and can go to apex without needed any counter steer, the FFB feels correct. At track out or any time a little counter steer is needed, the FFB fights the exact same force in either direction. If I am in a left hand turn, the wheel should be trying to pull back to center as I hold the wheel to the left and should easily, with little force necessary, come back to center (to the right) as I ease out of the corner. The FFB does not. As soon as I turn back to the right, the FFB kicks in at the same force as when I was turning left. This is what makes it challenging to be smooth from apex to exit. I have to force the wheel back to center. That is the unrealistic part.

My real world race car does not do this.

My rating for the G27 for GT5 is a 6 out of 10. I want to try it on iRacing next.

We have a DFGT and a G27. I like them both, but prefer the feel of the controls with the G27 wheel/pedals.

I tried different set up settings, but none seemed to make any difference with the G27.

I drive everything with all aids off - ABS at 1 or 0.

Good luck and enjoy!

I use FFB on 10

I didn't notice any difference between 1, 5, 10 or any other number when I changed the FFB setting in GT5. The text at the bottom of the screen says something about "this feature only active on DFGT"? I want to turn it way down or off. Is it possible in GT5?

No, it's not possible. The Logitech G27 is not an officially supported wheel so you can't change any settings. If you want no FBB I think you can just unplug the wheel from the wall but keep it plugged into the PS3.

The H shifter and clutch is next to worthless anyway.

Slightest amount of gas will result in the car not going into gear - unrealistic and frustrating as hell

Not to mention, with how strong the force feedback is, youre definitely NOT going to want to take 1 hand off the wheel - atleast not when driving any car with some balls..

1. I would start off with amateur mode until you can better learn the wheel or if you're already doing okay with simulation then stick with it.

2. I have mine on 10 so I can really feel the road and the car but that is really up to you in the end.

3. Leave it on for sure.

4. No, controller sensitivity is only for the controller and does not effect the wheel.

5. No, you must use the stick shift in order to go into reverse.

They do this so people who don't know how to use a clutch don't just rip through the gears without using the clutch and it's GT5 that makes the wheel "unrealistic", if you play rFactor or another racing simulator it's a whole different story.

Edit: Sorry for the double post.

ffb on gt5 isn't the best but does not behave vastly different to real life it's just not as detailed (many simulators are better) for those feeling "unnatural" ffb, you are wrong.

Also rarely have shifter problems, usually my own fault for a miss shift.

Comparing your X car with X castor and X camber to a g25 with a plastic rack and electric motors is futile, try some other simulators

I'm only about half a second slower with my favorite car after 30 laps with the wheel vs. what I can do with many, many laps on the DS3. Tried all three modes and liked simulation the best. Still just don't like the FFB from apex off when unwinding the wheel. In no car that I know of will you feel force in the wheel when trying to return it to center mid corner. With GT5 it is programmed to be the same force, left or right even mid corner.

Not sure what value this added, but hey, thanks for contributing.👍
