My first DFGT lasted ~6 months before the steering stopped working. I was doing a LOT of drifting with it at the time, and I believe that the straight cut gears and the one single motor is what did it in. Just too much heat and roughness from the friction of the gears.
3 years now with the G25 and all is good. I use FFB=1 though and don't abuse otherwise either.![]()
mykemSame here- bought my G25 in April 2008- the day GT5P was released in North America. Although I sometime use it with few PC sims (ones that manageable frame-rate wise with my intel macbook pro and iMac) but mostly with GT5P and now GT5. FFB for the two GT games have stayed at "10" since late 2008.
Oh yeah- the G25 still works like a charm. After about an hour or so, the FFB does deteriorate which is the case even with newer G25- it starts to feel dry with less damping. Spring in the pedals is starting to go but still register fully (when seen in GT5 HUD). The stick shifter ghost-shift every so often but these are excusable considering an almost daily usage.
Does g25 fbb deteriorate over the years ? Fbb at max 10 still feel rather insufficient of power on worn out g25.
.... I'm thinking about the thrustmaster wheel and shifter and Fanatec's clubsport pedals.![]()
The T500RS fits the bill when it comes to strong FFB (just make sure when playing GT5 to assign as controller # 1). I've tried it once and contemplating a purchase but it's going to be awhile before I can afford anything that extravagant. Even looking at the power supply/motor that comes with a G25/G27 and compare that to the ones on the T500RS is enough to tell you that the T500RS is at least twice as strong.
And being twice and powerful gives you a lot of headroom and you might even keep the FFB level slightly lower which entails would reduce the dreaded clipping/compression or distortion that occurs when you overdrive the motor.
VEHoldenSSMy DF Ex (I know, a cheapie) only lasted about 18 months before it's not sensing the wheel position correctly anymore. i.e Mostly when turning the wheel left and centering, on screen it appears to move erratically. It still works but control is not as precise as it should be.
Same here plus the fan makes an awful noise when the wheel is first powered on. Also my Gt2 ffb "sawing" noise (belt?) has gotten louder. My 3 month old Fanatec GT2 wheel has considerably wider tolerances: the wheel rim has a little bit of play, it creaks a little. I really don't think it will look as good in 4 years time as my G25 does now.
Loose screws of the sensor in the motor maybe? Might want to check that out. Sounds fixable still.
I'm hoping so, but I can't figure out how to get the thing open. If I can I will look for sure.
Most often it's removing the wheel, removing the clamps and then undoing the screws from the bottom. I only have a G25 which I never opened up, so in all honesty I don't know the correct procedure. Someone here is bound to know though.
