I always like to make things hard for myself

whats the lowest hp car you done this in??

I just done it in a 122bhp alto lapin turbo, 90% rwd

see if you can beat that

wow, it was hard enough for me in normal car - I think I really suck at drifting :D

agree, drift is a totally different league/sport itself.
I haven't managed to get gold just yet, still need more practice.

Haven't had a go yet, but I'll be trying my Scooby 360. Just need enough distance between the zones to pick up speed.

Thought there would be more people up for this kind of a challenge!

Anyway, I got a gold with 6164 in my trusty Subaru 360 at 60 BHP.

I think I could get around 7000 with a good run but that would be the limit. The hardest part is keeping momentum in that left-right-left combo, without hitting the barriers.👍

Just a quick question about drifting? Do you guys use a wheel or the controller for drift trials? I find it much easier to drift with the controller. I use the Logitech G25 for racing though. Nice and precise and pretty good for small drifts during the races but when going totally sideways my hands could never catch the slides.

The same as you- I have to use controller for drift trials, DFP for normal driving.

nice one woodski must give that little car a go ive never tried it

Cool. Max the car out, and obviously CH. Use the weight of rear engine to initiate the drift.👍

The Midget is good fun too, but this will tune up to 110 bhp or so.

I didn't won it at all, same with other time and drift trials. They should be easier.

Honestely, is there a clue about drift-challenges? I merely get to the end of a challenge without screaming louder than my lungs allow me. I never really was interested in drifting, i always was more of a clean racer, for this i have no idea about settings...is there anyone out there who could give me some hints? I think the settings are very important, but i do not know if the car has to be stiff/weak, what about toe angle? It would be quite cool if someone could give me some startertips on me account, as i am not a forum pro and do not have so much time to doublecheck answers given directly in the thread...thx in advance coolest and best forum

RWD, 60 Accel, 60 Deceleration, 5 Initial Torque. Not too much negative camber and toe on the front wheels.

And I did it in my 300bhp Ford Focus ST. FF and I managed ~7000 points. Not too bad, I guess. ;)

There is a thread in the drifting section that has hundreds of tunes for drifting. Mostly FR, MR drive trains some AWD tunes as well. Hope this helps.

There's loads of drift threads...but

For me it was just a bit of practice - I only started drifting when the trials started paying out. Don't get hung up on settings for beginning as long you as use a decent FR, or even MR, my only caveat would be to avoid understeer. To squeeze the more out of a car you'll then need to look at setup. Getting the technique(s) down is the key.

As a relative noob myself, my advice is to try out a few FR cars and stick with one you make progress with. Don't go mad with power: 200-250BHP is plenty to start with in a smallish car. Start with CH tyres especially with lower HP and avoid bigger heavy cars.

The '00 AE86 Trueno Shigano edition is a great stock drifter. Try RX7s, S2000s, 3 series BMW etc, or power-up 60s, 70s Skyline GTRs...

I'm no drifter but I used to be able to make golds using my Cobra or Stingray set up for racing rather than drifting. I suspect the previous DTs had tires with more grip or have I just lost it?

i struggled with the first couple of drift trials but i would be confident i could gold them all in any car except for fwd obviously and with the right tune

also i use a wheel, i got an old driving force from the ps2 on ebay for £7.00!!
It only has 300 degree lock so its really handy for getting opposite lock, although im much better with the ds3

tip for using ds3, put the sensitivity to 7 and use toe out whish creates oversteer which flicks the back end then use opposite lock and power to catch it

M3 csl was my learner car, and if you learn in something really hard to handle like the Pontiac tempest or yellowbird then you will handle anything

Challenge accepted. 👍

So you want low HP , eh? :dopey:

Set my garage to display cars ordered by lowest power to highest.

Picked the first car in the list , try to quess what it is.

I happened to have 3 of this car one with 14627km on the clock , second with 301306km and 3rd with 386580km.

The last 2 displayed same power level and PP so I picked the one I liked the least.

The 301306km one , I paid almost full prize for this permanently engine damaged piece of 🤬 .

The car starts at 13 BHP / 495kg and 199 PP (Comfort Medium tyres) :sly:
Oh , it's FWD.

So , I took this car to the Seasonal Events: London Drift Trial.

High Scores as it rose with new parts installed and with tweaks to setup:

Target
Gold 6000
Silver 5400
Bronze 3900

2789
3087
3744 installed exhaust
3960
4867 adjusted suspension and added power
4972
5518 added full power and adjusted gears + added clutch and flywheel

It was funny to buy new power adding parts that didn't do a thing.
3500 Cr. for nothing more than a little more torque.

Eventually the parts combined had enought full horses to get displayed.

managed 11495 in a speed 12, with gearbox at around 140. had to take it really slow, and change to gear 6 whenever i saw the exit to a corner. brakes were balanced at 3-7

How the hell are people drifting in fwd cars?

I think E-braking/handbraking, it's not meant for me though, I still have to use RWD.

Yep , E-brake to get a 19 BHP 2CV sideways.
With more powerfull FWDs a scandinavian flick works.
But E-brake is easyer.

But with the 2CV it was just ridiculous , E-brake , turn wheel , again E-brake , and turn wheel. (oh no , going way too slow)
Repeat about 10 times in first sector and many more in last 2 sectors.
