Yes, using manji on the longer straights to link into the next set of turns without fully regaining traction... Not my favorite thing to do, but it's the only way to link full courses...

WTF??!! You can link full courses on GT4?? I can do it all day long on GT3, but GT4??!!How do you keep it going out of the hairpins w/o losing all your speed and consequently straightening out?

AND DON'T SAY PRACTICE EITHER!! I drift atleast 2 hours a day on GT4, and I can link everything but loooooooooooooooooooong straights and I can't keep it going after a hairpin, I always end up understeering with wheelspin due to the physics flaws, and obviously, you've found some way around those "flaws" if you can keep it going.

It's not like I can link the full course every lap...

Throttle control is quite a bit more important in GT4... I find myself at half (or quarter) throttle a lot of the time, in between blips of full throttle... Hairpins are conquered by using less throttle than you would initially think (and a decent level LSD accel setting, between 30 and 50 to help give you the traction you need to keep your momentum going)...

BTW, I just finished rendering a large (146mb) and small (77mb) version of my latest drift vid "Positive Lock"... It's 10 minutes long, and is divided into two sections (RWD/AWD)... Music by Tool and Mastodon... I'll have it posted tomorrow...

Geez......I wrote a guide on LSD tuning, (look in my sig) so yeah, I know how to tune my LSD. And I have always been one to preach throttle control to hold long drifts.
look at post #3 here: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=67061
I rarely ever go to full throttle on GT3, and I find that I need more throttle on GT4. So I guess I'm just gonna have to keep trying new, likely unothodox lines, and keep practicing to get it. These just aren't my kind of physics, I miss GT3 drift physics sooooo bad. I wish they would have just modified the racing slick tire physics and just left the street, normal, and sim tire physics the way they were. It would rock drifting those physics with 900 mode. It would be alot more realistic too IMO.

P.S. That vid sounds like it'll be really good, I really wanna see it now.

Once you figure out the physics and tuning in GT4 (a bit different than reality), it's really quite a bit better than GT3, in my opinion... I am now starting to make really long links, and achieving quite a bit of what I had achieved in GT3 (which you will see some of in my new vid "Positive Lock")... It's more gratifying in both look and feel to GT3... As time goes on, this is only going to improve... In a year, you will see people making incredible links, that would put GT3 to shame...

GT4 doesn't have Complex String, so nothing in GT4 will ever put my GT3 Complex String start line to finish line continuous drift lap to shame. Especially in "the Snake" (the increasing radious esses)

But I agree that GT4 is ALOT more fun and gratifying due to it's difficulty. Just last night I did a full drift lap of Tsukuba in the HKS Hyper Silvia D1. MY FIRST FULL DRIFT LAP IN GT4!!!!!! I was so happy I drifted that track all night long till 8:00am this morning. I put 600 miles on my Hyper Silvia!!! Before that I almost linked all of Infinion Sports Car Course and Suzuka Long Couse (F1 track) with my BMW M3 GTR (My new fav drift car)

Oh yeah?... I think a full lap linked at Nurburgring would take the top spot... Complex String was my favorite drift course in GT3... I used to link it all the time... My favorite parts are the box turns (double apex heaven), and the loops...

Nice... Not my favorite drift car, but good on ya...

Oops, forgot about the Nurb. but it's so long, narrow, and bumpy, that I don't consider that a drift track. You can go slide the turns, but linking the whole track................... :nervous:  :dopey: :) :indiff:  👍 :sly: :scared: :ouch:  🤬 :( :D :p   :odd: :trouble: :banghead:  and DEFINATELY

lol, i coulda sworn that was gt4fan posting for a second with all those smilies :sly:

seems to me that Bazz (Eddie) had a decent lap of drifting the ring on the IDM forums...dunno if it's still up or not. Maybe other drifters have done better since the time I saw his vid - i dunno, i'm kinda out of touch with the forums currently. Nonetheless, he had a great lap in a Sileighty - didnt drift the full course, but i'd say something like 75%. Crazy bugger.

I wish that vid was still being hosted... I would have loved to have seen that...

I would like to add Turn 1 on George (Paris)

The long loop that is nearly a full circle...

Great fun when you get the right balance of countersteering and throttle inputs... Pretty simple in an AWD, but incredibly gratifying with all drivetrains...

have any of you guys ever actually tried drifting in circles? like doing a full 360 degree drift and actually keep on going? ive tried this afew times, but i can't come close. in real life its possible, but is it in the game?

Yes, it is very possible... I took my Sileighty to the Gymkhana (sp?) course and kept a drift going for quite a while... I stopped counting at 4 full times around... It's too bad you can't watch a replay of the gymkhana course...

Small_Fryz
Id love to see that DR 👍.

how big was the radious?

Well, there's that circle of cones on the Gymkhana course... I just stayed close to the cones and kept following it around...

;)

whenever i try, i either lose momentum or... well lose momentum my car straightens out for a second then i start drifting again once the momentum comes back up. i dunno what this actually means. is my angle too extreme or something?

you have a capt card right? you should play off your computer screen if your card is good enough. ive experminted with doing it, and recording my circles while messing around in the gymkhana course

Exactly what I had planned... Shhhh....
