Look here before you ask! -- GT2 Frequently Asked Questions

That's really strange because my PS3 runs GT3 and GT4 perfectly. And more, I can drive these two games with the Driving Force GT!

From what I understand, some versions of the PS3 will run the 2nd-gen GTs, and some won't. I didn't do any research on this stuff when I bought my PS3 a year ago. Not that it's a big deal.

Only the 60GB PS3 (discontinued quite a long time ago) can play PS2 games. All PS3s can play PS1 games however. I got the 40GB model myself, which makes me quite annoyed when I found out that it doesn't have PS2 backwards compatibility. I was soooo looking forward to finally being able to play GT3 and GT4 :(. Thankfully, GTPSP fulfills that dream (almost, but it's good enough), so it's not a big deal now :).

Who on earth would ever have the idea to exclude PS2 compability except for one model? That's just ridiculous!

Sony did. This way, if someone wants to play PS2 & PS3 games, they'd have to buy a PS2 and a PS3. If all PS3s have backwards compatibility, everyone would just buy a PS3 for their gaming needs. By making their consumers buy more hardware, Sony can gain more money. Simple marketing strategy. Good for them, not good for us :grumpy:.

I have a quick question to ask, I've tried googling about but to no avail.

Anyway, the other day I was browsing around a game shop that sold old games (snes, n64, ps1 etc.) and I noticed they were selling Gran Turismo 2. I had Gran Turismo 2 long ago and thought I'd pick it up and use it on the ol' PS3.

But I wanted to know is if there was any save files floating about that are compatible with the PS3?

I want the cars so that I have an nice racer with alot of cars which also has splitscreen (something that's missing from alot of new racing games these days). If all else fails, I think I'll have to dig out my PS2, memory cards and buy some new controllers for GT4.

Here's the starter pack for GT 1
And the starter pack for GT2

Both have all the licenses Gold, but no percentage done, so you can still have the fun of a Gran Turismo life, but without bothering with the licenses :sly:
And they are PS3 save files, so you can enjoy this in your PS3 :dopey:

But if you want a 100% complete game, with a bunch of cars, money and licenses, then you'll have to wait a bit, I'm working on that as we speak, currently I'm just about to finish GT1, only 2 endurance races left and then I'm off to GT2. :dopey:

I apologise if this is in the wrong section, but creating a full thread seemed silly.

I remember in the demo, under the Ford dealer, it listed a Ford Escort GTi. Was it ever seen in pre-release media at all? It disappointed me it was left out because at that time, UK-market cars were quite rare in games.

There's a Ford Escort, but only the Rally Car. The GTi is scrapped before release, sadly :( (I've seen that dealership picture too).

The PS2 will be fine, because it's not emulating the software, it's using actual PS1 hardware to run it all. So yeah, it'll be fine.

The game itself might pose a problem though. Early GT2s are really, really buggy.

Make sure you leave off the PS2's texture smoothing, though. It screws with the graphics and makes all of the cars partially transparent.

He said 2001, though. Wasn't that v1.2?

Cheers guys. PAL was OK, wasn't it? I'm going to grab a copy on eBay. Thanks again.

I still haven't got round to getting a PS1 memory card, so I can't play this yet. I was wondering, how far in does it take to get Grindelwald in Arcade mode?

IIRC, unlocking the tracks in Arcade Mode depends on your License progress in Simulation Mode. I don't remember exactly which License unlocks Grindy, but just complete it up to S to be safe. Getting all bronzes should be reasonably easy.

Love GT2 and GT1 any chance PSN will ever sell them on the Playstation Store so I can Load them on my PS3? I still have my GT2 game but there so scratched sometimes they don't won't to play

Ok so I'm playing GT2 right now, and I bought both the 1997 and 1998 Honda Accord SiR-T's. I tuned both to the max and got the racing modifications. Both look exactly the same, have the same horsepower and weight, are there any differences between these two cars at all?

Well there's the year...:P

Hey guys, I've got the NTSC-U North American USA Greatest Hits version of GT2, and I was wondering if the opening movie is actually supposed to NOT play on the Simulation Mode disc and only on the Arcade Mode disc? I love the intro movie so I was wondering why it doesn't seem to play in Sim Mode. :( NOTE: Tested on PS3 & PS2.

A couple of questions:

1. Is there any difference between the original PS2 and the slim PS2 playing GT2?

2. Can Composit video adapter be used on both versions of PS2?
(GT1 and GT2 look really bad using RGB)

The only difference I see is the CPU size (295 MHz for "Fat" PS2 and 300 MHz for "Slim" PS2).
