Thanks tho. I used it. To be honest I don't even have avatars activated so I didn't realize it looked so sketchy. It looked better where I got it from.
 no probs.

I definitely agree with the rule about gt3 guys coming in here and getting on their soapbox about how much better THEIR game is.

Its true a ps2 would cost (over here in Oz) well over half of what I paid for my car. As it is I am thoroughly enjoying GT1 and will get GT3 when the time is right, i.e. when the price is not stratospheric and when I have finished exploring the world of PSX.

In honor of GT2's 5th birthday, I though it might be time to finally post (sticky, maybe?) an FAQ in honor of the game. In addition, there is no need for a new thread every time you have a question about the game. It is perfectly okay to add a post to an existing thread, or a to start a new one all your own devoted to a topic not covered here.

How do I find the ____ (prize car)?

Please look at a prize car list first. There's at least 100 of them on the internet, just use a search engine.

Is the ____ in the game? How much power does the ____ get? Racing mods? Dirt tires?

There are just over 590 of them, over 615 if you count every hidden car. This shows you every car in the game with all the info you’ll ever need to know about them.

What's the best car, and has anyone ever rated every car?
There is no best car, but there are some very good ones. GTP members have rated a good deal of the GT2 cars in the above thread. It couldn't hurt to look around or use the search function.

Favorite car(s) in the game?

There's a lot of opinions on the matter.

Depends on how you set the car up, or cheat codes, or use hybrids.

What about the Escudo?

Cars/Manufacturers not included in the game?
There are licensing issues, that is, Polyphony Digital and Sony had to pay the rights to use the car(s) likenesses, logos, and names to be included in the game.

Where's the Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR? (Not in the game.)
What about the CLK Race Car (a.k.a. CLK DTM)?

Hands down seems to be the GT300 championship, if you play fair. Also, that sneaky GT40 in the Historic Meeting at Rome.

Thank you pupik for your excellent contribution. You evidently placed lots of effort into this post :). Some of these goofs passed right by me. :dopey: Anyways, I'd like to make a few comments:
-Lack of F/P/L: Oh well. This is more discussed on GT4 threads.
-Machine Test bug: On my Version 1.0, only the 1000m is corrupted. The other work fine; I know because I have constantly used them. I would strongly recommend everyone check their garage before ever saving if you don't wish to lose your money and effort. I know it's a pain to do this every time, so your call.
-BMW Rims: It's strange that BMW would condition this for only two of their cars. I think the stock rims look alright, but this blatant denial of changing them says something about BMW; probably more publicity than they barganed for.
-Horsepower Changes: Ack :yuck: This is an annoyance. You never know what the power is until you buy, and you never know the greater power between several models. Example- A Golf 1.8T actually has more top-end hp than the V6. Similarly, the Evo VI GSR is two hundred pounds heavier than its cheaper counterpart, the RS. I recommend a FAQ that the stats of these autos, and there's an excellent one available on GameFaqs.
Cheers. 👍

BMW at the Wheel Shop: “You can cannot enter this race” BMW did not want people messing with their stock rims in the game. You can find a GameShark code to change them, if you really need to.
Really? I should try to change the rims on my BMW and see what happens. ;)

Great work. 👍 This should be a stickie. :)

g.money
superb post. Anyone that asks these questions AGAIN really needs a slap now :D

Yeah, some people need a caning! Pupik, you should make this a sticky post, it would definitely cut back on Jordan's bandwidth costs (whatever those are). Now if some n00b asks "how do I get Escudo settings?" we can say "Go to Pupik's post" instead of "Use the damn search button" Everything is right here!

Oh BTW, HAPPY 5TH GT2!!

Happy birthday GT2,a nd thanks pupik for the good work.
I just realize now that I play GT2 more often that GT3, it's more fun.Maybe the bigger # of cars in GT2, mostly the used cars, has something to do with that.

Where's a moderator when you need 1? Make this a sticky...

Happy birthday to you,
happy brithday to you,
happy 5th birthday GT2,
happy birthday to you!

I'd forgotten how much I wanted this thread to be Stickied to the top. It's now concatenated to "Look Here Before You Ask".

(Also, a good way to practice thread merging!)

Man, it's been so long since we've been on this thread huh? *shirks off dust*

Meh. Gamesharks are only good for writing FAQs and making the TVR Speed 12 worth owning.

Sportwagon managed to make a gameshark endurance race...at Tahiti Maze! I think that was it...one of the rally tracks, anyways.

Why is it that in GT2 there were a lot of cars, but now can't find a lot of those cars in GT3 and GT4?:(

Developing a single car for either GT1 or GT2 on the original PlayStation took a relatively small amount of time because the cars were less detailed, graphically and in the way they drove. When the series made the move to PlayStation 2, Polyphony took advantage of the extra power the system had to offer by making every aspect of the game more detailed. Unfortunately, this meant that every car would take far longer to model. This is why GT3 has only 150 cars while GT2 had over 600. As Polyphony became more experienced with the hardware and were given more time to develop GT4, they were able to add nearly 6x the amount of vehicles.

Another reason many of GT2's cars aren't available in GT3 and GT4 is because they are just...old. Developers want to stay as up to date as possible with their car rosters. That said, they make exceptions for classic or popular cars.

Also remember that quite a few cars in GT2 are fictional. They don't exist in real life (FTO LM, GTO LM and a few others). Obviously with each GT PD wants to make the game more realistic, so these fictional cars are either binned completely or replaced with real world counterparts that perform similarly.

Hi, I look forward of buying Gran Turismo 1 and 2. But does anyone has already tested these two games on the PS3?

I can play both on my PS3, and it's one of the older models. The cool thing is you won't need to use any memory cards to save games. PS3 has its own hard drive for that. 👍

Can't play GT4 on the PS3, tho, which irked me because I was planning on donating my PS2 to a friend. Can't do it now because I still need it for GT4. :grumpy:

That's really strange because my PS3 runs GT3 and GT4 perfectly. And more, I can drive these two games with the Driving Force GT!
