Well, it's that time, I'm almost 16, i have a summer job, and i need a car. I want a RWD 2 door stick for $2500 or less. I'm thinking a Nissan 240sx, as I can pick one up for around 1300-1700 bucks in any condition. Do you all have any suggestions for what I should get?

Here's my suggestion: get something that won't die. Try a M-B 190E it can be had in a stick, it's RWD, and doesn't qualify for having two doors. But..It won't die. I see more 201s around than I do 124s.

OH! early 80s volvo 242. There. I solved the problem.

Mazda Miata.[/thread]

Don't dismiss it until you drive one.

EDIT: All 3 of those 240sx's are complete S$%tboxes. You don't realize how annoying it is to have little problems with your car. My car has a slight thunk when starting off and it pisses me off to no end. Every new squeak or rattle means something else is wrong with the car and might be major/expensive. Don't buy a piece of crap for a first car.

Well, you see, I "need" a back seat, so an MX5 is out. I have thought about a Mercedes E300, but 4 doors aren't sporty. All the US RWD 2 doors are beat to tar in my area.

Why do you need it to be RWD so much? A B13 Senta SE-R is a great car if you can find out, and will probably beat a 240sx in pretty much anything you can throw at it.

EDIT: Look for an old BMW.

EDIT #2: Something that looks kind of like this:

I'm not sure how much the 325s cost, but this looks nice.

I definitely would have looked for a older BMW if I had thought of it back when I was looking for a car.

Then look for an S12. Or an E30 Beamer.

I've looked at BM's, and I like 'em, I was going to buy my neighbors, but it has some rust holes in the trunk and floor. I would love to have an S12, but they are uncommon in Pittsburgh, and when you do find em, they get snatched very fast. I'm also looking into importing an AE85, not an 86, an 85, which might be more hassle than its worth

I am in the same category but I have no choice in what I get. My parents are choosing for me and all I know is it must have under 3hp and .4 Flb of torque and cost no more than .50 cents and a top speed of 50 mph if dropped from space with rockets on the roof.

 That's gold.

Gibson, you can't always get what you want, you gotta make compromises. Maybe 4 doors, maybe not RWD, maybe auto (OH NOES).

Be happy that your parents can at least buy you a car. I worked two jobs to pay for my car while my family could barely even pay for our house.

You never know, you could get lucky. I know a spoiled little 15 year old at my school whose parent's bought him a stage 3 convertible Roush Mustang. Just a matter of time until he wrecks it.

well tophat, your right, but, it has to be RWD and has to have a stick and has to be sporty. Back seat, no ABS and 2 doors are bonuses though.

There are always those, one kid back in my freshman year (he was a senior) had a masserati quattroporte. One would think he'd get all the chicks but he was gay, odd isn't it . Personally I don't complain about whatever car I get, I know my parents had a very tough time when my first brother died and are very protective of me. What pisses me off is that because of idiots driving around here like total c***baging ***faced ****holes I don't get a chance to own anything sportier or newer than a 96 mustang, and not even the gt.

To the OP, get a old BMW. Those things are built like tanks and will still provide tons of fun. I personally am trying to persuade my parents to buy me a old (80's-90's) 325i or 525i.

I'm right? Your post makes it sound like I'm dead wrong.

Why does it have to be all those things? So you can say to all the people on a message board like this "lol you fail because you drive a failmatic, and you are a pansy for having ABS"

You may be two years my senior, but driving at 16 should be more about learning, and familiarizing your self with the road, not driving like you like to drive in Gran Turismo.

Exactly what I think driving in the public highway system should be FOR ALL. If you want to play GT either turn the tv and console on or go to a track, be it a go-kart track or a circuit to drive your car in, the streets are not intended for going fast at all. Next time you think about taking a on or off ramp on your local highway 20mph over the limit, just look at where you will probably spin out because there is always a badly positioned tree or post waiting for you.

Get something old, cheap, and RELIABLE.

Also, the LAST thing you should want is anything resembling sporty. A few years on you can go hogwild, but for now, look for something that:

-Blends in. Average POS, not old nor new, not in bad shape but not in perfect shape exterior-wise.
-Gets good fuel economy.
-Cheap insurance. The INSTANT you get a ticket, it's going up, so cut your losses and get something that's cheap in the first place.

I personally am looking at a first-gen Probe (now that my Vega is gone), and while it doesn't blend in and is old enough to get looked at, it's cheap to insure and good on gas (with the Mazda 2.2 that is).

Well, I should have re-phased it to say you 1/2 right. You see, I want to get into road racing (http://www.performancetouring.com//index.php?categoryid=1) and i hate auto's, hate FWD, and sporty is just something 95% of guys my age "have" to have. So let me re-set my guide lines for a car ranked from most important to least important #1-rwd, #2-stick, #3-sporty, #4-back seat, and #5-performance parts readily available. Does that help narrow down what I'm looking for?

Old bmw e21 or e30. It complies to everything you say exept for 2 door. If not then get an Fc RX-7

If you're going to go racing, get a cheap car that fits your requirements and build it to spec for the class.

DO NOT MAKE YOUR STREET CAR YOUR RACECAR!!!!!!! I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH IT NEEDS TO BE STRESSED!

Originally I was thinking if I do get a old BMW just tune it up to almost racecar performance. Immediatly I noticed how bad an idea that would be.

Dude, you're not even 16 yet. The last thing you need to be doing at this point is trying to race a car.

Quite right... And for that matter, I find it questionable whether anything with RWD would be a good idea, especially in PA (with snow) and for the fact that it'll likely end up getting you in more trouble.

But meh, whatever...

First thing that popped into my head:

112-vw-beetle.jpg

1) They're incredibly cheap, quite easy to find in a variety of flavors

2) Parts are almost too cheap, I was shocked by how good it is

3) Its RWD

4) Most were stick

5) ONE OF THE MOST EASILY CUSTOMIZABLE CARS IN THE WORLD

6) Tough as nails

7) Not bad on gas either...

8) Plus, girls love them

9) Nice ones are always cool

10) Its a gateway drug into a nasty Porsche fettish...

EDIT:

BAH! He figured it out before me!!!
