I enjoy a more competitive race when I play GT4. I am tired of using a high performance car, and passing the competition in the first 400 meters.

At the same time, I hate picking a car that ends up being to slow, and doesnt even come close to the competition.

My question is: How can I predict a car to race with that will be competitive to the rest of the field I am racing? Some races, you have no idea what kind of cars you will be racing (i.e. "Gran Tourismo All-Stars) Do you always have to go into the "race preview" to see what you are going to be up against? That seems tedious, and sometimes you end up racing different cars than what was in the "race preview"

Is there a way to know what car to choose, so that the race becomes more of a challenge? I like winning races based on skill and decisions.... not by racing 500hp cars against 100hp cars.

Thanks for reading,

Lyle

I think the only way is to start the race and see how many A-spec points it says it for though even that isn't particularly accurate.

If you go by A-Spec points, then I would say at least 135+ for some decent competition. That is unless you just pass the cars in the first turn by using the cars themselves to turn, or you just go ahead and ram them full speed to slow down.

Then again I hear that people use the lame Dodge Ram to get lots of A-Spec points because of the poor Power:Weight Ratio. (I don't really like Dodge Trucks, so it will take a few more races to earn mine.)

Back in the original GT, you used to be able to see the HP of all the cars you were racing against. Wonder why they got rid of that..

As somebody said before in GTP (sorry I forgot your name), it is a good idea but very bad implemented. Look at the dodge ram example.

It is a massive shame really.

I had this problem with the Supercars championship in the Professional hall.

It shows nothing but GT40's running, but i hate the way that thing drives, so i chose a viper srt10 after looking at the other cars in the preview.

Low and behold, when i start the race, i get thrashed to death, and then i see whats beating me, its a cadillac CIEN.
Yes!!! thinx me, i have one of those in my garage, now i can have a straight up race in this category, with this standard CIEN versus my standard CIEN.

Oh no!!!!
Im not allowed to use my STANDARD CIEN, because it has apparently been modified.
Hate it!!!!
I dont understand.

Anyway, i used the viper, and bought some parts that i could fit after i had gotten past the entry rules, and i thrashed the competiton with NOS and more HP.

Spoilt my fun though.
Whats the point in owning that CIEN if i cant use it against exactly the same class of vehicle?

Somebody tell me.

I am VEXD.

I've had this problem with most of the Gran Turismo's. I always have lots of cars that I like, but they're either too good for the competition or not good enough. In GT4, I wanna use my Mercedes CLK-GTR racecar or whatever its called in a couple of races, but its not enough. If I use my Minolta, then I own the entire field. I can't find a car thats on par with the competition in many of the races.

uh By usin the Same class Car As the Field , stock e.g If they'r JGTC cars, Pull out a stock JGTC , Etc

My experience exactly. I entered my Mercedes Benz AMG CLK-GTR Race Car in the Gran Turismo World Championship and, after completing the first 3 races or so, I could see I wasn't going to win the championship and withdrew. Later, after winning the El Capitan enduro, I entered the Minolta in the GT World Championship and won easily. Currently, I am more or less cruising to wins in the Gran Turismo All Stars driving an Audi R8, and the competition includes another R8; a C9 or Bentley (I forget which), and one of the red, white and blue Nissan race cars.

I did find the Tourist Trophy challenging though. In fact, I have yet to complete it. Even with a highly modified Speedster Turbo the first race at Grand Valley was worth 250 a-spec points. Give it a try.

Oops. I meant the Speedster Trophy. Can't remember now whether I have even completed the Tourist Trophy! Sorry.

The problem is, I don't want to have to start a race just to find out the A-spec Points. Because if they are to low, and then I exit the race, it will count against my Win Ratio.... plus it's just a big pain in the ass to have to:

1. Pick Car
2. Enter Race
3. Find out its not a close race
4. Exit race and sacrifice Win Ratio
5. Back to Garage for a different car
6. Etc....

Yeah I hate that Win/loss ratio. I think its a useless statistic that causes more frustration than anything else.

I usually go into a race with a stock car and try it. Although most of my races seem to fall in the 60-70 pt range.. and I win those and have more fun with them.. but then i swear some of the 8 pt races are impossible. I guess its true.. go slower to go faster.

The Clio cup is good for competition, providing your not using the Clio race car..

Well, I've done that cup with my Clio V6, and with little tuning, won all the races. Thought I had to upgrade my Clio V6 because I was against only Clio V6 Cup Cars, but that wasn't needed, so the BHP upgrades I could get rid off, I removed. But only the Port Polish thingies can't be undone. But even then, I won it quite easily. But thanx to a stupid mistake in the last chicane at Suzuka, I lost that race, and finished 2nd. So, after the Cup, when I had my Clio Race Car, I thought to win Suzuka with my Clio Cup Car. But for some reason, couldn't win with that one. So, I took my 280 BHP (or so) Clio V6 Car, and won very easily. So, for that cup, don't use the Clio V6. But I'll try that one with the Clio 2.0, that must be challenging.

I liked the Tourist Trophy from Audi. Bought myself a Audi TT Quattro 3.2 for that, and won all races, but it was fun, were good races. Opel Speedster Cup was a little too easy.. Far before the finish I was first. The 206 Cup was great fun too. did that one with a full tuned 206 RC.

And for the Supercar challenge, I did that one with my Ford GT '05, the only car I couldn't beat was the Tommy Kaira ZZII, but that was mainly because that one always started first with rolling starts. So, he always had a 4 sec (or so) advantage, and he was faster on the straights. So, couldn't keep up with him. I've had some great races with that cup. I won the "normal" circuits races easily, but the city courses, were tough. But beat some good cars. I beat a Pagani Zonda and a Cadillac Cien with my Ford GT '05.

And for the GT Cups, I'll do them many times again, with my Nissan R390 GT1 Race Car, think that would be a challenge.:) I'll also do the Infineon Endurance again with my R390 GT1 Race Car.

But if I do a family cup, I find out that those are way too easy. Even with the difficulty at +10 (10 to the right) I finish 15 secs ahead. Is that the same with Arcade? If it is, then I wonder why they made those difficulty levels... Hopefully Arcade will be tougher than Family Cup in GT Mode.:)

Want to make your races closer. Take any car in any race and put N tires on it. N3s, if those are too easy, N2s and so on....

Or stick with stock cars. I can only think of one race in GT mode that couldnt be won with a stcok car from the deal (no oil change, no tire change) and that was the Opel Speedster cup...otherwise everything can be won in a stock car.

For arcade I used a woodone supra (JGTC) and set the difficulty to 10. The computer set me up with some lemans cars such as the Maclaren F1 Race car and the LM ford gt '04 I chose soft slicks and beat them all easily. So arcade isn't really any different.

As for A-Spec points just because they offer you over 130 doesn't mean it will be difficult for example I raced the Suzuki GSX-R/4 in the all japan championship after reading chrashers write up on it I thought it might be fun to try but I beat all the cars realitively easily with some careful tuning. I still got offered 173 a-spec points for each race.

Peugeot 206 cup with a stock car? good luck ;) I could barely keep up (180+ a-spec pts) with a fully modded one.

I think 130 a spec points usually provides a good race with a little room for mistakes.
No fun if your always winning though...

race in the driving missions

or go to arcade mode, pick any car you feel like driving, and set the difficulty up. these are the two best ways for stronger competition without worrying before the race what kind of cars you will be racing.

I wasn't able to win all 206 races with the one car I had, even by emptying the NOS bottle, but the RC won it too easily the way I had it modified.

During the Clio race, I pushed cars placed lower on the grid towards the front and slowed the lead car to third (or lower), to see how that affected the starting order of the next race. No matter what I did, the starting grid was always in the same order as the first race.

One way to lower your win ratio is to try winning the Midget race with only an oil change.
It can be done.

There's always something new to do, in GT.

Cheers,

MasterGT

try using an unmodded Suzuki gsx r/4 or the Chevy convertible '54 for the El Capitan 200 miles (both 200 "a" spec points)

or the gsx r/4 for the 'ring 4 hr

if u havent got the gsx r/4 yet... the suzuki concept race (using the s2) is quite hard

The 206 Cup has been a real challenge for me. I've tuned up a 206 RC and I still can't get any higher than 4th, with each race being a 200 pointer :( I'll need to formulate a new stragegy to win this one I feel.

Have you Racing Medium Tyres for your 206 RC? If not, equip these, you'll win quite easily. If you have equipped them, you need to improve your driving skill.:p But guess it's just the tyres, because with Racing Medium Tyres you'll get around 180 A-spec points I believe.:)

Are you saying that the tires were the only mod? Or is that an add-on to all of the engine, suspension, etc. mods?

Yeah, like in Gt3, to get a good race in GT4 you have to be in an inferior car to the rest. The driving missions are sort of challenging. Mission 34 can even be challenging for a good driver.

one of the best races i had was using that old AMG merc touring car (the black one) on the 'ring with difficulty set to high. very fast with little room for error. very exciting.

In a bid for some fun, I modded my 2.0 Clio and done the Clio race which was extremely fun and I was only catching the leader on the last couple of corners but the N0S helped me win the races.

If any of you want a good race, get a old 240 Volvo, tune it up as much as possible (odly comes to 240Bhp) Go onto Nordschleife and make it a Race meeting and you get to race some Lancers and Skylines, although they took the speed the volvo took the turns pretty well but I wasn't that much faster than them for the full lap, alot of time but for the whole lap it was close.

As someone said earlier, the Speedster challenge is good and my car wasn't fully tuned (Speedster Turbo) and when I got in the lead I was going into cruise mode and suddenly a bunch of them start rammin me off the track! The went as hard as I could and they stayed behind me, probarly the best races i've had.

get a stock car, well maybe not completly stock, with jst a few tuning parts, go to a course, and go to the last one, and set the level to 8-10, that should be around 150 aspec points, i found those kinda hard, so give it a try :)

as u can check from my topic in the write up section, i used a stock mugen s2000, and barely won it, and that was only at lvl 8 :)
