Hi guys, just wondering if anyone can help me out with a rally tune for the mini 1.3i.. I've tried various transmissions, shifting weight about but one problem I can't seem to conquer is the wheels keep on spinning, no grip !! I'm a tuner myself but I just don't know what I'm doing when it comes to rally tunes.

Hopefully there's a more experienced tuner that could pass on some tips on the above mentioned subject.

All help is appreciated.

Cheers

I am no dirt expert either, but I did buy 80% of the rally cars awhile back and quick-tuned/tested them for both dirt and snow. And that particular car, was just a waste.
Before you waste too much time on something you won't like even perfectly tuned, what was your interest in it?

Just fancied trying to make atleast a half decent rally tune. Everyone loves a mini rallying. Classic.plus I didn't think there was atune out there for it. Lol no harm in trying though . What did you think about the mini that you tuned up mate ?

I have not driven the Mini on dirt so take this advice for what it is. My experience on dirt is that softer suspension is better. I would try things like this:

- High ride height
- Soft springs and dampers
- Very low ARBs
- LSD needs to be spot on, meaning that both drive wheels spin at the same time
- Higher camber worked better for me on dirt than it did on tarmac, especially on the front. On 4wd rally cars all the way up to 4.5 camber on the front produced positive results. Not sure what will happen on the mini.
- Transmission flip, final drive all the way right and top speed all the way left, is an absolute must on dirt to help reduce wheel spin
- Low brake balance, like in the 2, 3 or 4 range. In GT5 you could identify brake lock by the engine sound as it would stop making engine noises when the brakes locked. I think they fixed that in GT6, but listen to the sound of the tires on the dirt. It changes when the brakes lock.

Try some of these things. I think you may be charting new territory by tuning the Mini on dirt. Cool that someone is attempting this.

Here are 2 set ups that I have currently tried. Its not finished as yet but if there is anyone out the willing to test then tthat'swould be brilliant.

I will try these 2 tunes when I get the a chance, your first tune you have brakes as your LSD.

LSD for second tune is 6/18/8 mate and I was testing on Eiger nordwand k trail. One thing that is easily noticeable is the lack of grip power hitting the hills. Thanks for testing

If you want try this out I just beat my pb (mini) by almost 10secs in the mini.

Still working on how to get a decent trans but think the suspension and LSD are OK for now.

262 bhp
640kg
54/64
Best off all parts including oil change.

No added ballast weight

Suspension

RH 103 . 101
SR. 2.30. 2.79
DC. 4/4.
DE 4/4
ARB 2/2
CAM 1.4/0.6
TOE. -0.12/-0.07
BRAKES 4/8

LSD. 5/18/6

I use a G29 wheel for these tests and we will compare times with you, do you use a DS3 or a wheel ?. I will be on my PS3 about 6 hours from now and I give you a review.

Ds3 I'm afraid, it might work better with the wheel I'm not sure mate.

Here's a transmission to try as well for the mini.

Reset to default
Final gear 5000
Max speed to 87
Set gears as follows
3.331
2.407
1.863
1.453
1.162
0.956
Then set final to 3500

Hope that works better

Cheers

I tested this Mini tune with my G29 wheel, to me the suspension is not bad but the dampers seems to be to hard in places. When you are going down the hill the rear end wants to go its own way like it want to drift and also when you just touch the brakes and a better transmission would be better but you do not see many Mini rally cars. Thanks for the tunes but if I was you I would leave the mini and go drive a real rally car and that's my opinion on this car.

For dampers, test things like 1 or 2 bound and double or triple the number for rebound. You can play with different front and rear numbers to get the car to do what you want. For example, if I want the front to absorb every bump and turn in well, I will use very, very low bound numbers, like 1 bound/3 or 4 rebound. That will also hold the nose down and encourage more front cornering grip. On the rear, if I want it to lose traction a bit, I will run higher damping like 3/5 or even higher. Do you see the method?

Yeah mate thanks. I will keep tinkering with it to see what i can come up with. No harm in trying. There may come a time when I think stuff it but im not throwing the towel in just yet @motorcityhami. And thanks for the review @hall90 greatly appreciated. Cheers

Worked pretty well. Keeps rearend on the ground more. forward traction still a problem tho and I'm running on pavement lol

Hi, if I could help I tried to tune it for the rally at Eiger G, I will post my tune, but I know that on this track there is a hill to climb and the car hasn't suffisant power to climb it.

My time was around 3:30 I think, I will add the setup and retry at Eiger :D

All help is greatly appreciated mate. Got a few hours to spare so will try tweak the mini. One problem thats keeps persisting is the loss of traction on the front wheels. Pain in the rear end so to speak. Oh and the transmission lol.

I am back testing this tune because the online seasonal events are disappointing to do. So my time using a G29 wheel is 4:31.883 and with a few mistakes and here is the video using your tune and to see if we can improve the handling a little bit.
