It looks so...Elise-ish...

I like it though, am I the only one who sees a little Ferrari 550 in the front over there?

Very nice appearance, doesn't look like a bug I should squash like the Elise does. I think it looks like a Noble.

For some reason I'm seeing a lot of Lancia Stratos in several details. Quite a great looking design, a very stylish sports car. And it's unmistakeably a Lotus.

I'm really not sure if i like it or not. I was expecting Lotus to have moved the design on a little, like they did between the S1 and S2 Elises. This just looks like a light reworking of the S2 Elise. Perhaps when i see some further pictures, especially some non-studio shots, i'll like it more.

Also, i thought 'Eagle' was just a project name for it?

I don't mind it, but it's nothing special. Which isn't my reaction the first time I saw the M250, which I thought looked amazing and still does, despite the fact the Elise S2 has dulled my reaction to it. And when the original Elise came out I was like

The area around the air vent on the door isn't very cohesive, there are lots of intersecting lines and curves with that airvent and the door shut plonked in the middle, and it doesn't quite work. I think it'd actually look better from the rear 3/4 because the lines from the rear screen and the side windows cross, which does work better.

I quite like the integrated spoiler looping over the rear too. The front isn't special but it does work, it's just a cross between every other recent Lotus.

What I like a lot is the screen leading into the side windows - very Lancia Stratos:

I don't think it looks like the Europa at all, though as I'm the only fan of the Europa's styling in the world I wouldn't mind anyway :sly:

It took them THIS long to build the M250?

Eagle is still the project name. The official name will be released with the grand unveiling at the British Motor Show in a couple days.

I'll also admit that some things will certainly be more clear when real pictures are released. I'm still really liking the whole thing though.

Sorry I've only just found this thread but I worked within the Lotus factory grounds for six weeks last year for the race team, then known as Lotus Sport Cadena. Many of teh employees don't have a clue what is going on because the management don't tell them what is happening. It is also difficult to see where money is going in the company.

I couldn't be bothered to read all 10 pages of posts so I don't know if this has been mentioned yet but the wishes of people on the first page that Prodive should buy Lotus may not be too far off the mark. The rumour has begun circulation that they are "interested". Apologies again if that is just a repeat.

I saw the original display model for the M250 in the old factory building next to the workshop I worked in.

I was surprised Lotus didn't put the Vauxhall 2.0 or 2.0T in the Elise. The company uses so many other Vauxhall parts and don't forget they used to build the VX220.

Hmmmmmmmm....

I don't love it. I don't hate it. I'll have to see the performance figures. Personally, it reminds me a lot of the Europa (which isn't a bad thing!), but I guess I'm kinda scratching my head as to why or how it will fit into the lineup with the Esprit Redux coming down the pipe.

most sources claim 280bhp and ~5s 0-60.

Fits pretty simple. If you want a direct comparison chart, you've got Elise/Exige vs. Boxster/Cayman, then Project Eagle against 911 Carrera, and the Esprit Replacement going up on 911 Turbo. We'll see how everything is marketed because right now I'm having trouble seeing the Esprit replacement holding a candle against the R8, which is a superb buy and will be relatively priced against the Esprit.

Regardless, this is Lotus' first competent attempt at achieving a mainstream market, where parts don't fall off and there aren't catastrophic engine blowouts, and the body design shows that. So many people wouldn't touch the Elise and Exige because of the extroverted styling and settle for a b-flat BMW. They've admitted they need to take some of the edge off the brand to get any significant profit, which is unfortunately true (although somewhat hard to imagine with only 2000 units a year). We'll see how much they open it up with the higher-performance variants of this car, but I'm expecting great things. I am really anxious to see how they deal with the interior. They haven't released anything new in almost 2 decades, so I don't know how well the changeover from minimalism to luxury will carry over.

I'm realy liking this design. Imo it looks different enough to the Elise, I'll reserve judment on the back until I see a good quality photo. I just think that the design as a whole from the engle in thoes pics anyway just works. I really like the rear shoulder that leads into the spoiler. The design just works.

They use that engine in the Europa. Not considered exciting (high revving, good sounding) enough for the Elise.

I was under the impression the Europa was aimed at the Cayman?

Ok, looking at the car more, maybe my Europa comment was a bit too early. I probably said that because the shape reminded me of the Europa. But, now looking at the M250, I can see how it looks more like that which is great, imo, because I loved the M250 design. And between the Elise/Exige & this, I'd take the "Eagle". The performance may or may not match the Exige, but I love the shape. 👍

And maybe Doug will actually be able to fit into it for a change. :p

Yes I forgot to put that in. I suppose that engine is better suited to the supposed GT characteristics of the Europa.

I was talking to one of the engine builders at Lotus when I was picking up a new engine for the Exige GT3 we were building and he said the Toyota unit would be far more versatile if they'd turbocharged it and not supercharged it. He said it can't take full advantage of the superchargers low down power because its such a revvy engine and a turbo would be better suited to it.

Before I saw the M250, the canopy reminded me of a GT-R and an Enzo.

Europa was a freebie. Proton hired out Lotus to work on a GT car for their Malaysian lineup, but the idea was ditched well into development, so Lotus was granted the car for their own use. Given this new executive Elise, they just shoved it in their lineup. I guess it could do no harm and cost the company virtually nothing, but it did make a little mockery of the name. Sales are terrible...

Here are some more photos, this time of an actual car and not an overproduced studio model shot.

First off, the new wheels shown are great, much better than the first ones shown. The profile shot also gives an idea of size, which I think is fairly small, smaller than I was expecting. It's got a very machined-aluminum feel to it in this colour, not quite flame surfacing, maybe a little less organic than the BMW offering. I really like the surface though. The natural wing element coming off the real wheels is a little too strong for me, but I guess it has to be with the indented spoiler piece. The back half is a little bit of a letdown for me. It does the job, but I really thing there was waaay more room for further improvement with the taillight graphic. I'm in love with the Elise's rear, so maybe it's just a similar but unfamiliar form that's putting me off. I'll need some higher shots to see just how the rear haunches play off with the back decklid. This is something that Mike Kimberley, Lotus CEO, addressed to on a message to Lotus Esprit Forums (a CEO posting on an owners board is as badass as they get, much respect.)

Firstly I'd like to address the concerns that the car looks like the Elise/Exige platform. Where we were concerned, was with fulfilling our objective of recognisable Lotus DNA in a completely new platform. I would ask you to view the car in the flesh before you make any decision as I can assure you that it is absolutely beautiful, elegant with lush haunches and the treatment at the rear of the car (which is the view most people will have) is phenomenal with exquisite lines and at the same time it looks strong, very strong and aggressive. The car interior is stylish and modern, yet retaining a unique Lotus feel. The high quality finish will match up to the highest competition in the market and the ease of use and functionality are ground breaking, designed around the driver as all Lotus products are.

The development team have created, in the Eagle project, a unique car which results in a stunning package and I am exceedingly pleased with what they have achieved. The proportions of the vehicle exterior, whilst being much larger than the Elise footprint belie the 'quart into a pint pot' interior and many of the largest Esprit drivers will find the car very comfortable and still retain room in the back, yet the car retains the look of a real supercar with it's low, sleek lines. We've kept many of the best angles for people to see at the show next week including the 3/4 rear view along the lines of the vehicle which is simply stunning and extremely unique.

I personally drove the car just recently and I would be happy for any Esprit driver to drive it in the knowledge that the performance is very similar to the cars they drive at present. Let us not forget that the car is still in development, we will not begin production until the end of December and although the exterior design is as good as complete we still have to put the finishing touches to the overall package. The car is on target for release as stated and is bringing the company back to Colin's original vision for Lotus.

Interesting interior, nice look to it. It looks quality but I'll need some wider-angle shots to better judge. I'm seeing some nice Elise styling cues and overall quality, but it still looks a tad cramped. We'll have to wait a little longer for more info to pop up.

Looking good.

But it does raise questions of how practical the 2+2 option will be..

They are a bit of a secondhand bargain though. You can get fully spec'd, low milage (5-7k) examples for £11-12k under list price.

Interior is looking very nice 👍

That interior is awesome 👍

I'm loving those A/C vents. Nicely placed away from the steering wheel and hands.

Like you'll be adjusting them much when driving the car, anyway.

I think it looks stunning, although I would say the front wheels look a little 'set back' from the nose. I can't help thinking of how much better it would look with a slightly[i/] longer wheel base but I know how that would affect the performance.

Those shots definitely flatter the car compared to the previous ones. It's still a "grower" for me, and I don't think I'll ever like it as much as an S1 Elise, but it's a nice, modern Lotus.

Interior looks good, that curve and shape to the dash reminds me of the Audi R8, but it still has that Lotus look, especially the narrow centre console and air vents.

It looks, dare I say, comfortable? It looks like the engineering work is really paying off...

That interior is awesome. It looks comfortable, and yet, so sporty. 👍

Here is some fanart Photoshopping of various other Lotus colours on the Project Eagle. This car really comes to life. I'd gladly take it in any of these paints!!!!

If I had to decide, Aspen White, Krypton Green and the Laser Blue would be my top choices. The car really changes, I'm impressed. The Graphite Grey is particularly handsome too.

Tough choice. Wonder what it looks like in a real dark Black. Otherwise, I quite like the blue & the red.

Call me a traditionalist, but gimme B.R. Green.
