rumour has it vauxhall will import this, even though it could be an M5 killer i think its way too heavy at 1869KG.

Of course its heavy, but thats where the power offsets that problem. The 414 BHP VXR8 really doesn't have any performance issues keeping up with the M5 (its not quite there, but you can fix that with the money you save). Adding the 505 BHP V8 should make for a winner, and funny enough, I'd still bet you get better fuel mileage in the Holden/Vauxhall/Pontiac than the BMW.

We're still waiting to see if we get them in the US or not, as Pontiac has only confirmed V6 and a mid-power (362 BHP) V8.

its have compared to the monaro is basicly replaces here in the uk,that weight in at 1677 kg.i know they are totally different cars but it would have been nice if they couldhave dropped the weight on it.

With the M5 according to owners you struggle to get over 20mpg,but coming back from Le mans there was a few owners with the VXR8 getting around 30mpg and theres already a fair number fitted with superchargers already :scared:

You can thank the T56-derrived M10 manual with the crazy-tall 5th and 6th gears for that. I'm almost certain that nearly 30 MPG (thats US MPG) will be achieveable with the "standard" 6.0L L76 V8, however, with the larger engines (such as the LS3 or LS7), MPG figures shouldn't be too hard to get around in the neighborhood of 25-27 MPG at a clip of 70-80 MPH.

Either way, the weight thing largely floats around the size and the construction of the car. The Commodore/G8/VXR8 use the longer sized pieces of the Zeta chassis design, while cars like the Camaro and GTO/Monaro will likely use shorter pieces, and at least in theory, should be lighter as well.

Still nearly 4000lbs isn't the end of the world. For a car that size, I'd say it isn't too bad. Although, they certainly could do better, but you have to remember this is GM after all...

-> I really do hope the Pontiac doesn't overlook this, this will be the perfect GXP model for its lineup. Ever since I drove the CTS-V, I have high hopes with Vette-engined sedans compared to the Vette itself (base and Z51 models only). :indiff:

-> If they do bring it here, that will be my first GM car on my list, the Z06 or SS Vette will be next. Take off all the Pontiac badging and turn it into a Holden, Aussie power!!! :dopey:

I don't see the weight as that big an issue for a 7 liter M5 competitor. The M5 isn't much lighter at all.

I get the feeling that this would be limited production Australia only model. A Pontiac G8 GXP or "Judge" seems unlikely, since GM is prepping the CTS-V for M5/E63/RS6/(maybe)159 GTA combat. And could somebody tell me the US to Australia exchange rate because I thought that article said the BMW M5 saloon costs over 200K.

Orgasm on wheels? Yea, that's what I'll call it. As German as I am, and as much as I love the M cars--I'd take this in a millisecond. This is just pure automotive sex.

^ The GXP is more like a competitor to the SRT-8 trio, so far on the domestic standpoint, these cars do not have a direct competition. The current GXP (Grand Prix), and the Chevy Impala SS sedan though they are good cars, falls remarkably short compared to the SRT's. :indiff:

Chalk that failure up to the fact that they are FWD based on a chassis that first debuted in 1988. Granted, the Pontiac actually handles quite well for a front driver, but by no means will either of the GMPD cars out-perform the two from SRT.

That being said, its hard to say exactly what Pontiac is going to do with the trim levels here. As we all know, they have three trim levels, ranging from "mild" to "spicy," as the GT, GTP, and GXP models.

Thus far, we only know of the GT, which uses the 6.0L L76 V8 with 362 BHP, cylinder deactivation, and E85 capability.

Compared to the E-series HSV products, the GTP model would likely mirror the R8 Clubsport, presumably equipped here in the United States with a slightly de-tuned LS3 from the '08 Corvette.

Thusly, the GXP model likely includes the 505 BHP LS7 from the Z06. Given that it will no-longer be the top engine at GM by this time next year, it wouldn't mean much to stick it in the car. Remember, the 650+ BHP LS9 is on the horizon...

And if it doesn't make it into the stock G8, you can almost expect that every single tuning garage would be sticking the LS7 AND the LS9 into the car.

I'm sure GM would build a few for SEMA as well. As long as there is room for a small block, people will stick a bunch of stuff into it. My guess is that carbed LS2s will be popular, not to mention the aforementioned engines.

I figure a light-pressure supercharger on the GT model would do enough damage when paired with a good intake/exhaust kit, and I'm sure a few tweaks on the suspension and a change of tires will make a world of difference.

there's 4 of these HSVs in the small town where i live...they cost about $80k AUD so it'd probably be cheaper by the time it gets to the US...they're beautiful cars...great presence..i'm usually not a fan of aussie muscle cars but this one's something special guys..u sohuld hear the noise it makes!

Four LS7 HSV's in your town? Okay. :dopey:

I thought I heard that HSV sold the 10th most amount of cars last month, they are absolutely everywhere, I'd see 20 HSVs to 1 FPV.

Its not that the HSV's out sold the FPV's, its that this car hasn't been released yet!

He's claimed to have seen FOUR.

I thought he just meant VE HSVs, but yeah, now I read it more carefully.

Regardless, since these unreleased HSVs are so popular then he'd be able to take some pictures of them for us anyway.
