What a load of crock. They don't give a crap about the PS3 because the install base is smaller? I've heard that one before.

It's not that they don't care about it, it's just that the 360 (and even PS2 version) are a higher priority. Which could lead to the PS3 version not getting enough resources to do what it needs to do.

Oh, and your avatar is round... but you're not on the smilie bandwagon. Get on it. :p

I think that I will avoid EA games for a while, except for Sims for my wife, because I just don't enjoy them anymore. I have been seeing the same football game for years now and it is just getting old.

Fortunately there are a large number of PS3 titles coming out that look very promising and that will hopefully push the sales and maybe even close the gap, but that won't be noticed until after Halo 3 comes out.

Other publishers are looking at the Blu-Ray capacity and making games that the 360 will never be able to run and if they prove to be as good as they promise then I doubt I will miss playing football until 2K gets to make NFL games again.

Thats a good point, it was kind of sony's selling point about the format although I dont see many of these such games comming out for a long time... maybe a GTA with 3 cities the detail of GTAIV may fill one! heres hoping though 👍

PS3 has a third of the userbase of 360
You'd be right IF Microsoft "sold" over 2 million X360's in July.

Or if you want to compare "shipping" numbers, Microsoft would have to have shipped 4 million X360 in July.

Of course, these numbers may have to be even higher if we are to assume a sizeable percentage of the X360 "shipped" numbers are for repeat and replacement x360s for those that failed and could not be repaired.

As for Microsoft shipping 4 million or selling 2 million X360 for the month of July. I wouldn't bet on it. I suspect Microsoft sold just over 200,000 X360's in July... less than the number of PS3 sold during the same period, undoubtedly partly due to the PS3 price drop of course.

360 keeps outselling it worldwide on a monthly basis
With the exception of last month of course. ;)

lead will extend this fall with cheaper price and the obvious titles looming (one which will push a ton of consoles)
It's a little premature to jump to that conclusion, and I suspect Halo 3 will sell more than just 260 additional X360's (assuming you didn't mean "gross ton"). ;)

360 owners generally eat up software titles like crazy compared to PS3 and Wii owners, etc etc etc.
You mean in the way that up until last month only one game on the X360 sold more than 2 million copies? In the way that of the top 300 best selling games of all time only one is an X360 game? In the way that the sales of just Wii Sports, Wii Play, and The Legend of Zelda: TP have sold nearly as many copies as all the X360 games combined?

Microsoft Xbox division wouldn't be losing over a billion dollars every year if they really did have 11.8 million "users" and 7.1 million XBL "members" who generally eat up software titles like crazy compared to PS3 and Wii owners, etc etc etc. In fact, if this were true, they'd be making over a billion in profit each year... like Nintendo... and I say that with a good deal of resentment as a longtime investor in Microsoft. :grumpy:

Of course the overwhelming majority of 3rd parties are going to put the 360 version of their games before anything else!
Besides the fact that you do not know that, please list all the 3rd party games that are coming out next year and of those please list the ones you claim the developers are going to put the 360 version before anything else.

The best you can hope for in the coming future is for developers to be platform agnostic like Infinity Ward and the odd few who's lead platform for their games is PS3 like Criterion.
and Sega, Digital Extremes, Capcom, Team Bondi, Konami, etc. In fact, unless Duck is mistaken, the PS3 is also the lead platform for EA’s Army of Two.

I suppose the fact that Free Radical's Haze and Epic's Unreal Tournament 3 are coming out first on the PS3 is because the X360 has so many more users who generally eat up software titles like crazy?

It doesn’t take a genius to see the correlation between the number of lead titles on the X360 and the simple fact that it’s been out a full year ahead of the PS3. Obviously this early in the “game”, more games were being developed for the X360 than the PS3. However, looking over the slate of games scheduled for the end of this year through 2008, and its also quite clear that developers are ramping up on their PS3 productions – and if E3 was any indication then there may even be more titles released in 2008 on the PS3 than the X360.

As for EA's game suckage, you do have to admit their non-sports titles are, at the very least, really promising. Rock Band, Army of Two, Battlefield: BC, and Crysis are either published or developed internally by EA. Granted, if you're a PS3-only owner then I guess you have some basis for a total boycott, but still.
Yes, because after all, the EA games are so much more brilliant on the X360… ;)

BTT: I have nothing against those that desire 60 fps, but I have to chuckle when I see people grossly exaggerating the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps. A great deal of “motion jitter” you see in video games has nothing to do with fps, and has to do with the program itself and the processor. The human eye simply isn’t that great at distinguishing the difference in movement above 20 fps… which is why almost all movies you see are filmed at only 24 fps. That’s right, just 24 fps, and you’ll find most movies look a great deal smoother in motion than any video game... go figure.

Thats a good point, it was kind of sony's selling point about the format although I dont see many of these such games comming out for a long time... maybe a GTA with 3 cities the detail of GTAIV may fill one! heres hoping though 👍
Well since you bring up GTA: Rockstar has said they will be making a new PS3 exclusive franchise and rumors are it will only fit on Blu-Ray.

Then Heavenly Sword and Lair come to mind as games that have to have Blu-Ray.

That's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more coming down the line.

And of course the best selling PS3 game, Resistence:FOM which was a launch title last year would have had to have been released on 3 DVDs... or "trimmed" if it were not for Blu-ray.

You can also add MGS4 to the list of games that wouldn't fit on a single DVD.

Is there a known reliable source that lists the disc capacity of all games on consoles?

I assumed but didn't say since I know what happens when I assume. I know the levels are extremely huge in some parts. I tried playing one vs one splitscreen with my brother-in-law and the smallest maps had us wandering around trying to find each other. I haven't even bothered playing with the larger maps yet.

Is there a known reliable source that lists the disc capacity of all games on consoles?
I did a (very) brief Google search but didn't see anything. However if I put effort into I bet I could find something, even if it is just an article discussing it.

Huh? MS has sold to consumers about 11 million 360s.

With the exception of last month of course. ;)

NPD isn't out yet, so I don't know how you came to that conclusion.

In the way that the sales of just Wii Sports, Wii Play, and The Legend of Zelda: TP have sold nearly as many copies as all the X360 games combined?

You mean in the way the 360's attach rate is 5.3 games per console, while the PS3's is 3.4? :p

And that was at the beginning of the year. Who knows what the numbers are at now (lower or higher)...

:grumpy:

You're forgetting marketing, moneyhats, the red ring of death $1 billion warranty fix, etc. And that 7.1 million XBL members include silvers members which (rightfully) don't pay anything to MS.

Besides the fact that you do not know that, please list all the 3rd party games that are coming out next year and of those please list the ones you claim the developers are going to put the 360 version before anything else.

Uh, most of them? When I said "put in front of everything else", I meant lead platform. And, y'know, if you looked at E3 most multiplatform games were running off 360s.

and Sega, Digital Extremes, Capcom, Team Bondi, Konami, etc. In fact, unless Duck is mistaken, the PS3 is also the lead platform for EA’s Army of Two.

...Which the only gameplay footage we've seen from AoT is from the 360 version, ironically.

I suppose the fact that Free Radical's Haze and Epic's Unreal Tournament 3 are coming out first on the PS3 is because the X360 has so many more users who generally eat up software titles like crazy?

Haze is coming out on PS3 version because either Sony wanted to fill the FPS gap for this fall and/or Free Radical wanted it to stand out and not have it swept aside when everyone is rushing for Halo and/or Call of Duty. Unreal Tournament 3 is on PS3 first because Epic Games needed help from Sony to properly adapt UE3 to PS3, as well as to pressure MS to allow user created modifications.

It doesn’t take a genius to see the correlation between the number of lead titles on the X360 and the simple fact that it’s been out a full year ahead of the PS3. Obviously this early in the “game”, more games were being developed for the X360 than the PS3. Are you talking about lead titles or exclusives? If lead titles, I imagine developers will become more equal and "nicer" to the PS3 as time goes on. If exclusives...

That's because the last time MS unveiled an '08 title was at X06 nearly a year ago. Sony has unveiled many games this year for both '07 and '08 (Killzone 2, GT5, LBP, and Infamous to name a few), and there's still TGS, Leipzig, and another SGD event to go. And there's other games we know are in development they haven't officially unveiled yet (I'm talking about showing off what it all looks like now with videos and photos) MotorStorm 2, Socom 4, The Getaway, Eight Days, etc.

Likewise, MS has Leipzig, TGS, and their event in Europe to show off whatever Rare has been working on. If they pull an E3 and we don't see many new things for 360 this year, then yes, the PS3 has more games coming out in '08.

I just found this interesting gem on Joystiq that kind of calls out EA and their 'the PS3 is too hard' line.

GRAW Developer: The PS3 is not harder to code for than the 360.

Just a snippet:
-Joystiq
"It's wrong to say it's harder to code on the PlayStation 3, it's just something that needs to be learnt," he told GamesIndustry.Biz. He goes on to stun the less observant by pointing out that "it's just a different console."

Le Tensorer isn't the first to comment on the hardware's perceived difficulty. In June, Team Ninja's Yosuke Hayashi engaged in less subtle commentary by simply telling complaining PS3 developers to "get out of the ring." The GRAW developer goes on to state, "Developers might says [sic] it's harder because it just takes time to understand the technology, we're still early in the lifecycle."

I find it funny that a developer (Ninja) taking full advantage of Blu-Ray and Cell see no problems with designing for the PS3.

That's also a curiosity I have on third-party games. Developers have no problem making a game more fun, or including more stuff, on different consoles. So, why would a third-party developer not stretch their skills out a bit and take full advantage of Blu-Ray?

Huh? MS has sold to consumers about 11 million 360s.
Source?

...but let's pretend you are right, that's still 2 million units shy of being three times more than PS3 sales... assuming none of those X360's are replacements.

NPD isn't out yet, so I don't know how you came to that conclusion.
Hmmm... Possibly because the NPD doesn't have a monopoly on sales data? But if you feel I’m wrong, and your confident that the X360 outsold the PS3 in July, then how about a friendly wager? :)

You mean in the way the 360's attach rate is 5.3 games per console, while the PS3's is 3.4?
Uh... I'm sorry... I could have sworn you said Wii, etc, etc, etc - as well. Wait.. you did. :)

BTW: using Peter Moore as a source is rather a dubious choice... he is afterall the same guy who claimed Microsoft sold 10 million X360's through September of last year. :)

And that was at the beginning of the year. Who knows what the numbers are at now (lower or higher)...
Well based on your original statement, apparently you did.

You're forgetting marketing, moneyhats, the red ring of death $1 billion warranty fix, etc. And that 7.1 million XBL members include silvers members which (rightfully) don't pay anything to MS.
Haven't forgotten any of that. Just as I haven't forgotten that they also aren't raking in revenue from X360 games.

If you were correct in your assessment that 360 owners generally eat up software titles like crazy compared to PS3 and Wii owners, etc etc etc. and you apparently feel there are 11 million X360 users, why is it only one X360 game has sold significantly more than 2 million copies... or are you just talking about how they "eat up" old PS2 and Xbox ports? ;)

Uh, most of them? When I said "put in front of everything else", I meant lead platform.
So list them.

And, y'know, if you looked at E3 most multiplatform games were running off 360s.
Someone needs to take that shovel out of your hands before you find yourself in Australia. ;)

Hmmm... Possibly because the NPD doesn't have a monopoly on sales data? But if you feel I’m wrong, and your confident that the X360 outsold the PS3 in July, then how about a friendly wager? :)
Be nice. He obviously hasn't read Joystiq.

OK. If the PS3 sells more than 360 in July, I'll use an avatar for one week with big, bolded letters saying "Digital-Nitrate was right". Vice versa, if 360 outsells PS3 I'll send you an avatar saying "Duck was right". Fair? :)

To be fair to Duck, pack in games hardly count. And while I don't have the list in front of me, I'd be surprised if there were many gaems at all that were on that list from this generation.

To be fair to Duck, pack in games hardly count.
I though that too, but Wii Play and Zelda have sold a fair share themselves and I expect Wii Fit to do just as well.

And we haven't even seen Mario Galaxies or Super Smash Brothers projections yet, but I would be surprised at a Nintendo owner that didn't by the next Mario game.

You had better start making that avatar now.

I know. I was referring specifically to Wii Sports.
Duck
Oh, and your avatar is round... but you're not on the smilie bandwagon. Get on it.
Yours smiles. Mine smiles and explodes. I'm good. Same general profile anyways.

Did I also read that GTAIV was delayed because of the 360 version, thats nice to hear.

...And you do know that's just a personal guess from Michael Pachter, not a fact, right? Because from what I know, IGN said the game performed like **** when they previewed it a while ago, and before that Rockstar said the PS3 version was several weeks behind. Maybe, y'know, the game just wasn't finished?

Microsoft Cancels X07 Event
Posted on 7/19/2007 9:11:00 AM by Staff of Tradeshow Week
Microsoft officials confirmed that X07, a European event usually held in late September, was canceled. The event was established in 2001 and often was used to make big announcements for the upcoming year on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, including new game titles. A company spokesman has said Microsoft will try to find another venue to talk about the 2008 lineup, possibly the Leipzig Games Convention or the Tokyo Games Show.

Duċk;2748745
Well... MS cancelled their Leipzig conference. No game announcements today, nothing. 👎

When the heck are they going to show off some of their '08 titles? TGS? Surprise buttsex announcement?

O Microsoft, Microsoft! Wherefore art thou Microsoft? :ouch:

Running through Gamefly a bit ago I see this:
http://www.gamefly.com/products/detail.asp?pid=128305&t=0&fcTrack=Search?-?-

NFL Tour for January 18th release. How many different kind of NFL games can EA put out? It is on both 360 and PS3, so I wonder if it will be equal or if it will favor 360 as well.

This would make three NFL games that EA has (Tour, Head Coach, Madden). Are they just abusing their license or are they trying to grab as much cash as possible before losing it?

I want to sit in on their creative meetings to plan upcoming titles.
"Hey, I've got an idea. Why don't we make an NFL game?"
"Another one?"
"No, not another one. A new one."
"BRILLIANT!!!!"

O Microsoft, Microsoft! Wherefore art thou Microsoft? :ouch:
"Why announce anything else when we have Halo 3?"
"BRILLIANT!!!"

Duċk;2750234
Oh, yeah baby. NPD is in.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=183381

July Hardware Figures
Wii 425 k
Nintendo DS 405 k
PlayStation 2 222k
PlayStation Portable 214k
Xbox 360 170k
PlayStation 3 159k
Game Boy Advance 87k

NPD = US sales only.

I realize X360 fans don't like to talk about Japan Sales, but lets.

Code:
	Total	US	Japan
Wii	822k	425k	397k
PS3	251k	159k 92k
360	188k	170k 18k
63,000 (33%) more PS3's sold than X360's.

BET3.png

Of course one must also wonder how many of those X360's were sold as temporary replacements for malfunctioning X360 and then returned.

What's most interesting is that the PS2 continues to outsell X360 and PS3. I realy don't think we will ever see a console as popular as the PS2.

Anyone have any accurate European console sales data for July?

Wait until he gets his name changed then go ahead and put up the Duck Was Right avatar and then for that week act like you have no clue who this EWillis character is.
