I wouldn't be so sure about the D-Backs having more hitting than the Giants, from what I've seen so far in spring training, the Giants will be contenders with their outstanding pitching and their slightly refreshed lineup.
The biggest problem with the Giants is that our manager fails to make a decent lineup.
EDIT: Here are some observations that a guy on the Giants forum made while watching the spring training practices and games.
"
Spent a couple of days in Scottsdale watching workouts and games - my observations:
1. Velez is hopeless defensively, and not major league caliber. He'll make the occasional play due to his speed, but does not exude any confidence anywhere in the field. He has pop in his bat during BP, but didn't show anything in game situations.
2. Frandsen is swinging pretty well, and hits with some pop. He looks like he's having fun, but needs to work on his spray arm.
3. Burris looks very good defensively, and is clearly more of a 2B vs SS. Not as much pop as Frandsen, so this competition hasn't yet sorted itself out.
4. Schierholtz was hitting lots of bombs in BP, and comfortable at the plate during the games; let's hope he sees plenty of playing time (can we just release Roberts?)
5. Ishikawa looks surprisingly comfortable and solid at the plate and defensively; he looks like a balanced player who's not going to fold like Bowker once the league figures out his vulnerabilities.
6. Bowker is perplexed at the plate; he's in great shape but needs more balance to handle offspeed and situational hitting. Saw Posey get his first AB, although he struck out, kept his head down, weight back, and fought off some tough pitches.
7. Didn't know much about Uribe, but he looked very good in practice and during the games. I'd much prefer him to Richie as our utility guy. Hit a couple of ropes during the game and played well on the left side of the infield.
8. Sandoval has a consistent arm, and good hands, but not clear whether he has the quickness for fielding bunts and shots to the hole.
9. Sanchez was dialed in, Zito surprisingly effective, and Johnson looked just okay.
10. Fred Lewis didn't seem to be favoring his foot. He hit a bomb against the Mariners, and looked strong in BP. He's a legitimate #3 hitter.
Ishikawa, Schierholtz, Sandoval, and Lewis are a solid platform from which to build a contending team. Overall, slight improvement over last year, but need the big bat to contend."
