I send my best wishes to everyone whose games will be affected by Hurricane Irene this weekend. Take care.

31 days left in the season and the Phils have 33 games to play. Ouch! Thanks, Irene.

It's too bad that there are so few good playoff races left with a month to play. Arizona-San Francisco should be quite interesting, but the Rangers are likely to pull away from the Angels, the White Sox probably can't catch the Tigers, and the two division races in the East are basically meaningless since the Wild Cards are all but sewn up.

Quite a few of the teams I like underperformed pretty badly this year - the Twins are just a train wreck, and the Reds and Rockies should have better records than they do, whether based on something as simple as run differential or on something more complicated like BP's third-order wins. But I've enjoyed seeing the Diamondbacks continue to be lucky, and I hope that they can make the playoffs even though I normally want overperforming teams to fail to make the playoffs ahead of more "deserving" clubs. The Giants were annoying me earlier in the season when they had a good record by using lots and lots of smoke and mirrors despite a barely positive run differential, and people were of course fitting their performance (lots of walkoffs) to the narrative that they have lots of "heart" and are "clutch" and "know how to win" other such BS.

It's also been really fun to watch Bautista shock all of us by playing even better this year than last year, and to see the Phillies' rotation completely live up to the hype.

Oh we definitely deserve it. ;)

Turbo I can't believe you stole John,Macdonald, although "sources" say he'll resign back in Toronto after your playoff run.

The guy is a highlight reel on defense, just to bad he doesn't hit all that well. He's in my top 3 favorite players for sure.

He got a hit last night. (I think) All the new guys are really starting to put some solid effort in lately. The whole team is on fire, including our starting pitchers. Rookie on the mound tonight, hopefully we can back him up with some solid offense and win our 8th straight. :dopey:

How do you show you're the better team? By hitting THREE Grand Slams, that's how! The New York Yankees pounded the Oakland Athletics 22-9. I read that the Yankees were down 7-1 until they eventually pounded out those Grand Slams. Who were the men guilty of drubbing the A's in this one? Cano, Martin, Granderson. Congratulations to the Yankees on accomplishing this feat of three Grand Slams in a game.

We were vacationing in NYC at the time, and we lucked out to pick that game to go see! After the first grand slam by Cano, in the next inning the Athletics intentionally walked Nick Swisher, to load the bases for Russel Martin. I remember I turned to my brother and said "he's already hit a home run today, that probably wasn't a smart idea", and then a few pitches later, bam, another grand slam.

That was a fantastic game to watch. And yes, the Yankees were down 7-1 at one point.

8 wins in a row, +6 on the Giants at this point.

Can we go for 9 in a row? +7 on SF with some help from the Cubs?

Edit: 9 in a row! But the Cubbies lost. :(

Everyone ready for the EPIC SF vs. AZ series this weekend? :nervous:

$1.2 billion is offered to buy the Dodgers:

The all-cash bid comes from Bill Burke, founder of the L.A. Marathon, plus 'state-owned investment institutions of the People's Republic of China' and unidentified American investors, a letter sent to Frank McCourt says. Burke and a spokesman for McCourt have no comment.

The Phillies defeated the Marlins last night 5-3, going 42 games over .500 for the first time ever in their 135-year history. There have, of course, been lots of seasons where they've gone 42 or more games under 500, so all I can say is, it's about dang time!

Of interest is the fact that, if Roy Oswalt (last night's winner) can get three more wins, and two more wins than losses over the rest of the season, then everybody in the starting rotation will be a) double digits in the win column and b) over .500.

Swept by the Brewers... 8-2 loss on Friday, 8-2 loss on Saturday, and 4-0 on Sunday. Ed Wade's ass needs to be fired. Either that, or bring in people who actually want to help return the Astros to relevance. We haven't done too much of anything since the improbable 2005 World Series run. I think we have our 91st or 92 loss of the season. Sad in five plus years to go from playoff team to mediocrity to deplorable. Damned shame. I've already stopped caring about this season's Astros and just looking forward to Texans football and [University of Houston] Cougars football while the Astros just keep losing games to hopefully have a better 2012.

Just got home from the 18-2 Tigers win over the White Sox, it had been about 2 months since my last game and I'm really happy I picked this one to go to as a farewell to summer. What gets me is how bad the White Sox played, it wasn't even the Tigers playing super amazing ball, but there were errors and miss opportunities all over the place by Chicago.

It does make me happy the White Sox were embarrassed on national TV though

I've been there a couple times myself, being a Phillies fan. I feel your pain, bro.

I would just like to add in here that if Ian Kennedy of the D-Backs does NOT get considered for NL Cy Young this year, something is wrong with the system. We have ourselves one hell of a pitcher and he deserves to be part of that selection process.

14 wins out of our last 16 games.

Keep on truckin'. 👍

Ian Kennedy going for win #20 tonight. I have confidence that he'll get that win too. Not only are we battling SF for the NL West which I believe we will take, but now we're battling Milwaukee for the 2nd best record in the NL so that we get home advantage in the NL Division Series against Atlanta.

17 wins out of our last 20. 👍

Unfortunately Kennedy didn't get win #20 last night, but we did manage to squeak by with the win thanks to a 10th inning bases loaded walk. Hopefully Hudson has a better night.

I read a tweet someone said about my Astros. It was something more along the lines of "go back to the bottom of the cellar, your team SUCKS!" Maybe that guy/girl was a Phillies fan since we've won 5-1 on Monday night and 5-2 last night. Still doesn't help we're 51-97 heading into today's game with the Phillies. I guess we're a sucky team that still puts in plenty of fight despite our terrible record.

One fan was frustrated about the lack of offense by the Phillies. Normally, I'd just say "shut the hell up." Your team is much better than mine. It's not like you can't win games while we've stunk up an entire season. Hell... how many ex-Astros are playing for the Phillies right now? You're going to be just fine. You know what? This sounds like when the Lakers fans in the NBA were complaining this past season about their performance. Stop the freaking pain. Complain when you have bulls:censored: seasons like my 2011 Astros.

Wakefield finally got his 200th win! But the sox need to step it up going into the last couple weeks. Tampa is closing in fast...

Kershaw is on a mission right now against the Dbacks. Boxscore.

Before he was tossed from the game for hitting his arch enemy from the night before with a pitch.

That was a hell of a game last night. Either the Dodgers pitching last night was just that good, or we had a brain fart. Oh well, still 7 1/2 games up, on to San Diego!

Parra is hardly an arch enemy - just a loud mouth getting a reality check. The banes of the Dodger pitching staff are Matt Holliday, Shane Victorino, Tulo, and anyone on the Giants. Clayton's arch rival is and probably always will be Tim Lincecum. They are easily the best two starters in the division and they always get matched up when the two teams play.

If this season weren't such a throwaway for the team, I would be frustrated with how the series went. But the McCrooks just seem to love making a mess of things so all you can do is root for growth from the young players and due credit for the stars who still perform despite this ownership fiasco.

It's hardly his own doing, how would you react if someone threw a pitch right in the direction of your head? I bet you'd have some words too. Kershaw yelling stuff from the dugout didn't help either.

Good movie. :)

Edit: In any case, any complaining should be directed towards the ump that threw Kershaw out, as I personally would have let them go at each other.
