Sorry for double posting, but this is big...the Tigers and Rangers are talking about a possible trade involving Prince Fielder and Ian Kinsler.

I don't know what to think of that, to be honest. But the Rangers need a better offensive 1B than Mitch Moreland.

Not the only deal I have heard floated today. There is some chatter that Ryan Braun may be headed to New York. Kinsler trade makes ALOT of sense for both sides.
 
Thank God, maybe Detroit can get some offense going if they make it to the off-season next year. I thought for sure they'd end up getting Cano, but hey I'll take Kinsler.
 
Have to say that Texas is the winner of that trade. Wow......
 
So, now that we have Fielder, here's everything that comes with that.

-Jurickson Profar will more than likely become the everyday 2B. That is, if the club does not get Robinson Cano.
-Mitch Moreland will likely have limited playing time, or be used as trade bait.
-Texas might end up getting some great production from 1B.
-The Ballpark in Arlington is a fantastic hitters park, and Fielder has done well here.

Now, the Rangers need to address a few other issues:

-Corner outfielders, now that David Murphy is going to the Indians. There's also the possibility Nelson Cruz will not return.
-A primary catcher, unless they plan on Geovany Soto handling that. If that's the case, they can bring up Robinson Chirinos or sign somebody else.
-Maybe a starting pitcher. As of now, the Rangers have a rotation of Darvish, Perez, Holland, and Harrison. It's unknown if Colby Lewis (who hasn't pitched since 2012) or Matt Garza will return to Texas. Alexi Ogando needs to stay in the bullpen. Nick Tepesch might fill that 5th spot.
-Closer. Joe Nathan is likely not returning, but the Rangers have some former closers in their bullpen right now, in the name of Joakim Soria and Neftali Feliz. Tanner Scheppers is also an option.
-Designated hitter. Mitch Moreland could go here if Fielder will be the everyday 1B, but we might not get much production from him. Then, who do you sign?
 
I just read that the Rangers are connected to Brian McCann, so there's your catcher if he signs.

Rangers will swing from being practically all righty to practically all-lefty if that happens.
 
And that is a shame. It would make more sense to try to resign Cruz.

I don't have high hopes for Choo or Ellsbury to come here, to be honest.

Buried under that big blockbuster, the Royals have apparently signed Jason Vargas to a 4 year, $32 million contract.

8 million per year is fair for Vargas. Shocked that he got 4 years though. Wow.
 
He's a decent pitcher, but I figured they would have given him a shorter contract.

The Angels offered him 3/24, so there's your reason. The extra year is what he required.

I posted this thought on the other sports forum I visit, but I figured I'd share it here too. 8 million bucks is about average for a 4 or 5, back-of-the-rotation guy. So if you're the Royals, you can just have a revolving-door system where you bring in a different 8 million dollar vet, or you might as well have it be the same guy for 4 years.

That longer deal also makes sense considering how inflated contracts are becoming. With Tim Lincecum getting his ridiculous deal, then bums like Nolasco and Jimenez asking for the moon, they might be making the frugal call by locking in the cheap guy for four years. Who knows what an analogous pitcher will cost in 3 years.

Hughes should go cheaper than these two. Nolasco is not worth any moon, well maybe Pluto's moon. Jimenez is a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get. Cleveland didn't get much out of him until this year.

Hughes will go dirt cheap, I'm sure. With Nolasco and Jimeniz, they're worth as much as whatever club wants to overpay them. Can't wait for Ricky to sign with the Twins for 4 years, 60 million. :lol:
 
New York Mets sign OF Chris Young for a 1 year deal. They should have brought back SP Chris Young, to recreate the late 90s confusion of having two players with the same name (SPs Bobby M. and Bobby J. Jones).
 
Angels reportedly trade Peter Bourjos to the Cardinals in exchange for David Freese.
 
Randal Grichuk was sent to the Crads and Fernando Salas to the Angels as well.

At least we wont see Chris Nelson anymore.

Rangers re-signed Colby Lewis. So, that might have solved the 5th starter.

They still need a LF (frontrunners are Choo, Beltran, and McLouth) and a catcher to go with Geovany Soto. If the Rangers can get a LF, they could have Rios in RF and Cruz be the DH if he returns (and I have a feeling he will).

I'm not really sad to see Peralta go. His bat will be missed a little bit but I think we will be just fine without him.

Prince Fielder was formally introduced to the Texas organization today. He will wear #84 next year.
