Houston failed badly tonight. The Astros only managed two hits as we got hammered 12-0 by the Tampa Bay Rays. More losing for the Astros- stuck on 30 wins. As R1600Turbo predicted correctly his Diamondbacks getting swept at the Braves, I may predict a Rays sweep of my Astros here in Houston. If that holds true, then Tampa Bay is three games away from doing so. Next game tomorrow night. Hopefully the Astros can learn to score even against beast teams like Tampa Bay...

On a different note, congratulations to Canada's only remaining MLB team (unless somebody wants to start another Canadian team)- the Toronto Blue Jays- for winning today on Canada Day 8-3 over Detroit. This game was televised on MLB Network. Happy Canada Day and cheers to you all up in Canada! :)

Sort of. If they played the Giants, they were one of the final four teams left, right? That ain't bad.

That has nothing to do with almost missing the playoffs. GTP needs a facepalm smiley for this one. :dunce:

We were talking about the Cards almost missing the Playoffs? I thought you were quoting me about how Cards finished the season strong or something. Oh, well.

Please let this game end. I don't care what happens honestly. Its too late to care.

I didn't now Jason's game was still going on.

Edit: Go D-Backs! up 4-3

Arizona took the lead in the 13th, and now walk the bases loaded.

EDIT: Game over. Mets win 5-4.

Crazy day for the Cubs so far:

Signed Gleyber Torres ranked anywhere from 1-3 on International Free Agent Lists
Signed Jefferson Mejia, IFA
Traded Scott Feldman and Steve Clevenger to Orioles for Jake Arrieta, Pedro Strop + IFA $
Traded Carlos Marmol, cash + IFA $ to Dodgers for Matt Guerrier
Traded 2B prospect Ronald Torreyes to Astros for IFA $

Cubs came out it all with an extra 900+ thousand for International Free Agency which started today. They are favorites to sign Eloy Jimenez another top ranked IFA and the extra slot money almost guarantees he is the team he will sign with.

Edit: also signed IFA RHP Erling Moreno and C Johan Matos

They barely escaped falling apart last season, making the second wild card by only one game.

Almost missing the second wild card is not my definition of "finishing the season strong."

EDIT (since double-posts aren't allowed, even hours later):

I almost can't fathom what I'm about to type: I like the trade that the Dodgers made for Carlos Marmol.

Really? Getting technical over finishing the "season" versus "regular season" over some tongue in cheek comment I made to someone else two days ago? This is getting little petty, isn't it? ;)

So I don't forget, congratulations to Andy Pettitte on becoming the Yankees' all-time strikeout leader last night. He surpassed Whitey Ford for most strikeouts all-time.

Petty, really? I'm just discussing baseball, don't get your feelings hurt.

You seem pretty defensive over a comment that was "tongue in cheek" anyways. Also, if it were meant that way, why are you defending it in the first place? Shouldn't we be agreement that the Cardinals didn't "finish the season strong" last year?

Lastly, if you want your comments to only be responded to by a single person, try a PM. This is a discussion board, after all.

I'm done listening or caring about games for a while, until the pitchers can get their act together.

So how's the weather in Arizona?

My feeling's not hurt, and I didn't realize I was getting defensive. Just replying to your posts directed at me. If you want me to agree with you, I will agree with you. I'm walking away now...... :dopey:

Corbin will not get his 10th, although he will likely get his first loss of the year.

EDIT: Montero's "tag" prevented a run, but now its 7-1.

Boy, the Braves got a win, but the Cards' in trouble, giving up five runs in the second inning.

Well at least SD and SF are sucking right along with us. We're tanking but so is everyone else but the Dodgers...

Astros blanked again, and managing only two more hits than last night's fail. The game on Monday night was a 12-0 win for Tampa Bay. Tonight was an 8-0 win for Tampa Bay. So in all for this 4-game series- NO runs and six hits total for the Astros. The failing continues just when I thought the Astros were getting [at least] better. Granted they're playing Tampa Bay, we're the ones getting kicked around like a tomato can. Again- I wouldn't be surprised if we get swept by Tampa Bay in this series. However, I am damned disappointed the Astros aren't putting up any kind of fight in this series. This is terrible.

Every team in the NL West except for the Dodgers lost tonight. Kershaw threw a complete game shutout in Coors field (apparently, he's only the 21st pitcher to do that) on the same night that Giants got no-hit by Homer Bailey.

The Dodgers are now in a virtual tie for 3rd place with the San Diego Padres, two and a half games back from the Diamondbacks.

Woohoo! Nice job, Batman!
Earlier, I was going who the flack is Batman?

This is him, right? Well, he made the front page on CBS baseball(Actual Batman on the right, of course), and as soon as I saw his face, I was like, that dude looks like Christian Bale.

So the Phillies, of all people, kept the Pirates from extending their winning streak to double digits behind the pitching of rookie Jonathan Pettibone who picked up his first win since May 14th. Not that Pettibone pitched bad in the interim, more often than not it was the usual lack of run support.
