Rougned Odor has two brothers named Rougned and Rougned. His father's name is Rougned.

Just wrapped up...

We prevented getting swept by handing the Atlanta Braves their backsides with a 6-1 victory today. Most of the game was 1-1. The Astros plated a run to make it 2-1. We then slapped on four more runs to end our four-game losing streak. So we take 1 out of 3 and await the Detroit Tigers for a three-game weekend series here in Houston starting Friday night.

Congratulations to all other winners from Thursday. By the way, remember I talked about a Sports Illustrated image of the Astros in my previous post? Here is that picture, courtesy of the Houston Astros' Facebook fan page:

An Astros fan can only dream- World Series champs. The 2005 Houston Astros didn't even win a single World Series game against the Chicago White Sox. Comment at will.

Comment at will.
Those uniforms are still hideous.

But seriously, it looks like the Astros have a pretty good, young core of players. With some maturity (and hopefully no trading away of those players for the Astros' sake), it looks like that club's going to be solid in a few years. World Series Champs in 2017 solid? I don't know about that. I could easily see them contending though.

How dare you :sly:

I've said from early 2012 that the Astros would be in the playoffs by 2017. By mid-last year, I changed it to ALCS Game 5 due to rather rapid player development. Though I'm not afraid to hop on the WS17 bandwagon.

Nine innings wasn't enough. So we needed 11 innings against Joey D's Detroit Tigers. Jason Castro was the Astros' hero with a walk-off homer to help us win 4-3. The real beast in today's game was little José Altuve and his four hits on the night. We have now won our 35th game of the season and have a 35-46 record. The Tigers had three runs on eight hits and made two errors. The Houston Astros got four runs on nine hits and made two errors. Detroit falls to 43-33 after tonight.

Game 2 of 3 of this series is tomorrow afternoon. I would be surprised if we actually won this series against the Tigers. This is a battle of 1st Place AL Central against 5th Place AL West. Oh, and for the record- I LOVE those Houston Astros rainbow uniforms, thank you very much. One Astros' fan on Facebook even wanted those rainbows to be the permanent uniforms for the Astros, though we haven't won many games wearing those.

Elsewhere...

* The Texas Rangers snapped their long losing streak by winning 5-4 hosting the Minnesota Twins. They lost some seven or eight games heading into tonight.

* It was 7-2 at Wrigley Field as the Chicago Cubs slapped around the Washington Nationals at home.

* The New York Yankees were ballin' when they hosted their best friends- the Boston Red Sox. I saw back-to-back jacks as the Red Sox fell 6-0 at [New] Yankee Stadium.

* The Yanks won... but how did the other New York City team do? Well, Blitz24's Mets were witnesses to the Play of the Night in Pittsburgh- Josh Harrison of the Pirates is a big dude, yet he beat out a rundown as well as scored the walk-off base hit to help the Pirates win tonight. Pittsburgh won at home 3-2 in 11 innings.

* Another cool moment today was when the Colorado Rockies hit a home run called by a color analyst, and ended up catching it!

* It was a good night for the Snakes as R1600Turbo's Arizona Diamondbacks beat San Diego 2-1 at Petco Park in San Diego, California.

* A competitive game in Miami ended up being a beat down in Miami served up by the Oakland Athletics. It was 9-5 in Miami with Oakland winning this one against Omnis' Miami Marlins.

* The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim paid a visit to the Midwest and the Kansas City Royals. Midwestern hospitality served up to Patrick's Angels with an 8-6 defeat LAA had to accept.

Congratulations to all other winners from Friday.

By the way... have you heard a report that a Native American group is suing the Cleveland Indians for $9B USD and for the Chief Wahoo logo? Think this is going to be as intense a lawsuit and a matter as intense as the one involving Washington, D.C.'s NFL team?

Houston was leading 2-1 for most of the game, even as the Top of the 9th came along. Sadly, we failed. The Detroit Tigers won 4-3 today here in Houston. Tomorrow afternoon's game will be the Rubber Game of this series. The Astros just couldn't do enough to hold down the Tigers long enough.

* The Texas Rangers won 5-0 over Minnesota today in Arlington, TX. Yu Darvish picked up the win for TEX while Hughes was the losing MIN pitcher.

Congratulations to all other winners from Saturday.

We won the DET at HOU series with a 6-4 victory today! I said I would be surprised if the Astros won this series against Detroit. So you can imagine how stoked I was seeing the Astros beat win this series against the Detroit Tigers. Well, I was pleased the Astros tamed the fierce felines from Detroit. Here's an interesting stat in this series: Miguel Cabrera for Detroit went 0 for 13 in this series. It's his first hitless series since some time in August 2012. José Altuve became the first player in the Modern Era (since 1900) to in four successive games multiple hits and multiple stolen bases. J. Altuve is just ballin' right now. So is George Springer. Feldman was the winning HOU pitcher along with a Save from Sipp. The DET loser was Smyly.

* KM964's Texas Rangers didn't have a good Sunday of baseball, as the Minnesota Twins took down the Rangers 3-2 win in Arlington, TX.

* It wasn't a good day for the Mets either. Blitz24's New York Mets fell 5-2 in Pittsburgh.

* The NL West sure got interesting with Prosthetic's San Francisco Giants were watching their NL West lead dwindle. Things got worse today as they lost 4-0 to Dolph Drago's Cincinnati Reds. It was 5-0, but a review of one of the CIN runs was taken off the board. The Giants still got blanked and have lost 15 of their last 19 games. Only good news for SF was that they avoided getting no-hit days after Tim Lincecum no-hit the San Diego Padres (imagine THAT irony!).

* San Francisco's fail meant it was a chance for the Los Angeles Dodgers to feast at home. In a game televised on MLB Network and with the fabulous play-by-play commentary of Vin Scully and the L.A. Dodgers' TV coverage, Villain's Dodgers won 6-0 hosting the St. Louis Cardinals. This win for the Dodgers along with the loss by San Francisco means the NL West is tied between San Francisco and the Los Angeles Dodgers. SF had a lead of about eight or nine games earlier this month. Now they're tied for the NL West lead.

* Dodgers won... but what did the Angels do today? Well, they had their hands full with the Royals in Kansas City, Missouri. The Royals beat Patrick's Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim lost 5-4 today. I'd say this is a good day for a Dodgers fan- LAD wins, LAA loses.

* The Tampa Bay Rays pounded the Baltimore Orioles 12-7 at Camden Yards in Baltimore. Cobb won for Tampa Bay, and Meek lost for the O's. Joyce of TB becomes the first player in franchise history to collect five hits and two homers in one game.

* Winner winner fish dinner! Green and gold prevailed in Miami as the Oakland Athletics won 4-3 over Omnis' Miami Marlins.

* The Astros' next series opponent- the Seattle Mariners- was in action today as they hosted the Cleveland Indians. King Felix was on the mound for SEA. His boys ended up winning 3-0. Cleveland managed only one hit and made two errors in this game.

Congratulations to all other winners, including the eventual winner of tonight's Boston at New York Yankees match (ESPN baseball's money maker). Also, there is a report that Miami's Giancarlo Stanton will be in this year's Home Run Derby. All I can say is (in the words of Kevin Harlan), "buckle up, baby!" He'll have no problem jacking balls out of the park.

Rangers are losing to the O's. Nothing new.

But here's something new...Jake Arrietta HAD a no-no through 7.2 IP at Fenway. Stephen Drew just broke it up with a single to right.

Yu Darvish can pitch only every fifth day, so the good news is that the Rangers are guaranteed at *least* a .200 record from here on out.

Go figure- I stop caring about a Tigers game because I think they'll lose only to find out that they came back to win 5-4 off of a Rajai Davis 9th inning Grand Slam.

Chin music served to the Astros tonight- we failed 10-4 against Seattle tonight. The Astros were trailing 5-3 at one point of the game. Even all the praise for Astros like José Altuve and George Springer didn't result in the Astros winning. So we ended up getting roughed up by the Pacific Northwest's only Major League Baseball team. Another Astros fail.

Elsewhere...

* The Astros got smacked tonight, and so did the Rangers. 7-1 was the score in Baltimore as the Orioles soared like eagles and picked apart the Texas Rangers like buzzards.

* ...there was ALMOST a no-hit bid by the Chicago Cubs at the Boston Red Sox. Yeah- imagine the Cubbies no-hitting the Red Sox. The defending champs broke up the no-no in the 7th or 8th inning or so. Boston still lost at home 2-0 to the Chicago Cubs. Here's an interesting stat I read about the Cubs... they have thrown 13 no-hitters in franchise history, but NEVER a Perfect Game. Their last no-no was against (and I remember this well) my Astros in 2008 when we had to play in Milwaukee after Hurricane Ike's devastation here in Houston.

Those were some games I wanted to touch up on. Congratulations to all other winners from Monday.

[UPDATE] I forgot to mention in my initial post that BAL's Manny Machado's 5-game suspension was upheld. He served his suspension starting tonight.

Padres won, 1-0. Lowest team BA (.171) of any team in any 1 month since 1920. Also, 1st team to win 2 games in same season with 1 hit.

Before tonight's matches, here is a quick standings update. I want to do another one of these once the All-Star festivities roll around. This list ONLY consists of the current standings heading into tonight's games:

AL WEST: Oakland (51-31), LAA (45-35), SEA (45-38), TEX (37-45), HOU (36-48)

Good luck to all of your teams as the All-Star Break approaches.

Bull:censored: game tonight. Smiley was lights out and we just hand them a win. Prime example of our pathetic season.

Padres won, 1-0. Lowest team BA (.171) of any team in any 1 month since 1920. Also, 1st team to win 2 games in same season with 1 hit.
Yep. Another wasted effort by Latos. Guy can't catch a break since coming back from the DL. :grumpy:

Astros annihilated. 13-2 was the exorcism we took on Tuesday night here in Houston against the Seattle Mariners. I hope none of the Astros did anything to anger them heading into this game. You could say that they went Beast Mode on us, like another player for another Seattle professional sports team...

Yep. That was ugly... not so much if you're a Mariners fan, of course.

Seattle sweep. We failed for the third straight game with a 5-2 loss to the Mariners. Seattle comes into Minute Maid Park and sweep us in a three-game set. This loss marks our golden loss of the season. Yep. We've now lost 50 games and are currently 36-50.

Up now is a road trip. It's the Astros at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for four games this weekend followed by a three-game set at the Texas Rangers. I can already sense the losses racking up. These games are, of course, crucial because these are divisional matches.

Mets fail to win again, losing 3-1 to Atlanta. Season cannot end soon enough as the team has already announced that Syndergaard will likely not be up this year. 2015 could have a lot of heads rolling in the organization.

At least your guys' teams didn't just get swept by the freakin' Padres, the worst hitting team in baseball. Instead, the roles were reversed, where the Reds put up a whopping 2 runs all series and got shut out twice in the process.

This after we had just won 8 of 10 and had swept the Giants in 4 games IN San Francisco. I have no idea what to make of this team.

We got swept by the Cubs and the Braves (again). I actually am not surprised that the Reds lost to the Padres because the Reds are a free-swinging team. Ross is one of the most skilled at getting misses on his pitches (his missed bats rate is in the top 5 in the league).

Tigers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-1. 6 of the runs scored in the first two innings, and 5 of those were off of 3 home runs.

Since my Astros are playing a late game at LAA, I'll chat about a few other games. Actually... get ready for some NL West loving to start things off.

* The St. Louis Cardinals beat down San Francisco with a 7-2 victory earlier today in San Francisco.

* Los Angeles could be atop the NL West if they could beat the Colorado Rockies in Denver. Mission accomplished. 3-2 was the final tally in Denver.

* The Arizona Diamondbacks whipped some Pirate booty in Pittsburgh. All smiles for the Snakes with a 10-2 victory today.

* It was 5-2 in Baltimore as the Texas Rangers fell to the Orioles. Yet another win for the O's.

* Fitting that in MoTown, the Detroit Tigers ran over the Tampa Bay Rays 8-1. The kitties of MoTown didn't blow a motor on this one.

Congratulations to all other winners. I'll chat about how the Astros did tonight at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in a later post.

Just wrapped up...

...our losing streak is now at four. The Astros dropped Game 1 of this 4-game set at LAA with a 5-2 victory in favor of the Angels. We led 2-1 at one point until the Angels reeled off four runs while the Astros just got stuck in the mud... again. José Altuve and George Springer were the real bright spots for us in this loss. Even if you couldn't give a s:censored: about the Astros, you have to at least admire the star players, and both Altuve and Springer are as much of stars as any other more glamourous players on more glamourous teams. I sure hope either or both make the AL's All-Star roster, even if as reserves.

But... the Astros have now lost four straight and are stuck on 36 wins.

Samardzija and Hammels traded to the A's for Addison Russell, Dan Straily, Billy McKinney, and PTBNL(some sources say no on PTBNL). A's now have 5 of the top 30 pitchers in MLB in ERA for the season. Cubs have the #3,5,6, and 18th ranked prospects in baseball. Mega trade.
