Impressive, but will he disappear in the postseason? ;)

I don't think I've talked about the Reds since their first game or series. I can't understand this team. Loads of runs one game, get shutout the following game (or three straight 1-0 shutouts in one case after putting up 14 runs). Frustrating. The pitching tends to be stellar for a few games, then gets absolutely blown up for multiple. I can't believe I'm saying this considering he was an All-Star a couple years ago, but I'm glad Diaz is no longer in the closer role (actually I just found out he was sent down to Triple A). He is getting pounded and managed to give up 3 straight dingers yesterday.

I know I said the same thing the past two seasons, but they lack consistency. I have no idea if they'll actually achieve said consistency, and it's frustrating to say the least. The talent is there.
Every time the playoffs arrive I hope Judge has at least one great series to get the monkey off of his back

The current season line for the star outfielder the Yankees got in the trade with the Padres in the 23-24 offseason: 288/373/663, 12 HRs, 189 OPS+.

No, not Soto, this guy:

Top 5 hitter in the league

These Redlegs are ridiculous. As mentioned in my previous posts, they are just so inconsistent. Just look at the run production in their latest series against Houston. 0, 13 (10 in the first inning), 0. Good lord. One thing that is consistent is their ability to lose games. The final two games of the Atlanta series before the Astro debacle they blew a 1 run lead in the 9th and loss in extras, then blew a 2 run lead - again in the 9th - and loss in extras.

Oh, and the injuries. In the span of a week last week, four players hit the IL. Austin Hays who was batting well over .300 (though he is back), a rookie in only his 4th game Tyler Callihan (a brutal double forearm break crashing against the wall :ill:), Noelvi Marte who was batting well over .300, and star pitcher Hunter Greene. Sigh

I am shocked that the Rockies are as bad as they are this year. Granted, they do play in the NL west, but they're making the 24 White Sox look competent this year.

Right now, it looks like most of the divisions are a toss up. Nobody has really started to make an effort to control their divisions yet.

Pete Rose and several other deceased players (notably Shoeless Joe Jackson) have finally been taken off MLB's "permanently ineligible" list. They can now appear on ballots for the Hall Of Fame (unless the Hall management change the rules, don't put it past them). I do find the whole HoF thing a bit silly, but to tell the story of the game you can't pretend the alltime hits leader doesn't exist so hopefully he gets rightfully recognised soon. Joe should be in as well, I'm sure Pope Leo will put in a good word for him as a White Sox fan.

AL East looks to be in control of the Yankees.
NL East will probably come down to Mets, Phillies or Braves but the Mets are still playing at a close pace to how they ended last year.

The Rockies have two issues:
1. They play in a division with 4 very good teams, one of which will probably miss the playoffs but finish above .500.
2. Ownership is bad, so the GM is limited in what he can do to improve the team. There is no incentive for them to be this bad because even if they break the White Sox worst record, they can't pick higher than 10th in the 2026 draft due to 2 straight top 5 selections. They have an anemic offense and a mediocre pitching staff. To succeed in Coors Field you need to be a ground ball pitcher and/or have exceptional control but even that isn't foolproof. Any good player the Rockies get on offense they hold onto for too long and throw away any trade value.

No way he can sustain this over a full year, but Judge currently putting up the most dominant offensive season vs league average. Ever.

Rafael Devers has been traded from Boston to San Francisco in exchange for Jordan Hicks and others. Link will eventually be added on either post edit or a new post regarding the "others". An absolute blockbuster trade regardless of the others.

EDIT: More information has been provided and will also contain future updates here.

This season started with so much promise but since the start of May my Yankees truly suck. From bad to worse. Another season down the pan. It would be a miracle if we turned this slump around, but sadly we're not the Mets. If we had an owner who actually cared about winning over economics this would finally be the end of Cashman & Boone - I won't hold my breath.

We did turn it around.

Not enough to win the pennant, but in the playoffs at least. Big G got super hot and that gave us the spark.

Aaron Judge winning a batting title (by a mile) was not on my bingo card when he entered the league. Well done big man. Doing it whilst also hitting 50 HRs, an 1100 OPS+ and 10 WAR is taking the p**s a bit though!

Playoff bracket - over in the NL I'd like to see the Brewers take it, or the Cubs. Maybe the Phillies. Basically anyone but the Dodgers.

As a Reds fan, I thank the Mets for their epic collapse. I had this team written off a month ago. It's a miracle we somehow made it to the postseason. Now off to get swept by the Dodgers!

I'm actually shocked the Tigers managed to make the playoffs. I thought for sure they were going to completely blow it after giving up a 15-game lead in the division.

Tigers were saved by making the playoffs because otherwise their collapse is historical.

Tigers with a dominant pitching performance in game 1 over Cleveland 2-1. Cubs come from behind on the Padres with a 3-1 victory. Red Sox get to the Yankees bullpen as the bats did nothing and take game 1 3-1. Trend is now that the Dodgers will win 2-1 on the Reds (as of 9:20 PM).

Great pitching duel in the Bronx. Unfortunately the evil Sox actually have a functioning bullpen, unlike the Good Empire. 1-0 to them, season on the line tonight.

kjb
Boone should have left Fried in the game
He might have had one more batter in him, but 105-110 pitches has been his limit all year.
He wasn't going 3 more innings - at some point the bullpen would be needed and they have just been horrid all year, even with the deadline additions. Another offseason overhaul needed.

Maybe the GM for life can fix the bullpen. Probably not. I agree Fried would have gone another 3 innings but maybe a couple more batters

Yankees have to beat both the Red Sox and Aaron Boone who is inadvertently sabotaging the team. Funny, the Mets had the same issue this year.

Luckily Alex Cora decided to help us out with some Boonian bullpen management of his own.

Game 3! Winner takes all! Blue Jays are loving it.

Can Schlittler. What a kid. Saves us from Boone by pretty much doing it all himself.

No pick for the Cubs-Brewers, like them both, just make it a good series.

Obviously the good guys will go up to Canada and beat the evil Jays.

Praying that the Phillies can knock out the Dodgers - I don't want to get to the World Series against them again, with all those Japanese guys who rejected us :grumpy:

Not sure about the last one. Skubal scares me to death, but so does the Raleigh/Rodriguez double act.

At this point, I'm just choosing to pretend that the Tigers intentionally threw away their huge lead because they wanted to give themselves a challenge for the playoffs.

I know that's not true in any sense, but if Formula 1 gets to manufacture storylines for entertainment value than so do I dammit.

Not the wildest take I've seen about their collapse.

The best one is that Hinch purposely made decisions that resulted in poor play so that the Tigers could save money by not giving out performance bonuses and could potentially use it as a means to have players take discounted deals during contract negotiations. There's also the good old standby of "Vegas made them do it."

Playing 5D chess there.

Well you don't want the boys eatin' too good now, can't have them start expecting steak every night of the week.

But hey, at least they didn't spend $765 million on a single player and then get knocked out of playoff contention by a team whose entire roster's salaries is less than the cost of that one contract. LOLMets is eternal

About that

At least we knocked out Boston before we started stinking up the joint. Absolutely putrid play the first two games. 21 Ks, too many other whiffs to count.

Sadly we've seen it so often before. The whole team just so stiff, so corporate and playing scared - meanwhile everyone else look like they are having fun. It will never change under Steinbrenner ownership though.

Hal is a baseball version of Jerry Jones in that all he cares about is making money. Playoffs and are nice and if they make it to a WS and get swept that's really good. As long they keep selling out Yankee Stadium nothing else matters. When the Yankees win chips they are even bigger license to print money they are when are mediocre. Hal Steinbrenner wants to win but not at all costs. Yankees are probably one of the most famous franchises in all of sports and Hal acts they are the Pirates or something like that. Long time Yankee fan rant over. Anyway the Knicks season starts 10/22 Go Knicks!

He did open the cheque book for Judge, Fried, etc so I won't moan about that. It's the whole organisational philosophy I don't like / never liked, and it goes back to George and stupid stuff like the hair/beard rules. They are a business more than a sports team. The players are drones (led by AJ, a generational talent but also a robot). No fun, no passion. Honestly sometimes I wish I'd picked the Mets back in 2000 when I started watching seriously.

The Mets are fun, but we are hilariously incompetent sometimes. If there is a way we can do something in the dumbest possible way, we will find it and do it, inadvertently.
