I think I've come to the conclusion that watching the Gameday tracker on MLB's website while listening to the radio broadcast of a game is more enjoyable than watching the TV broadcast. But that may be just because I like playing management sim games and Gameday looks exactly like one of those:

The little radar in the upper left is in realtime too, which makes me wish we had this technology like 20 years ago when we had to suffer through local blackouts on cable.

I use that sometimes when I’m too cheap to sub to MLB.TV

At least the Yankees have taken one, and the offence has produced when we’re not already down 12 runs. Pitching still stinks, up to kid Cam to save us.

Yeah I'm glad they pulled it out last night. The one thing that Cashman does a horrible job at is get pitchers. He's like a squirrel looking for a nut in a blizzard. He gets lucky every once in awhile but more often than not he whiffs. It takes a certain kind of pitcher to play for the Yankees and sometimes you don't until they play. But that has been a bugaboo for him for like over 20 years

Speaking of that certain kind of pitcher

I wish we had him now. Someone close to me was never able to take that step and ask for help, so I know how hard it must've been for CC at the time.

The Tigers are bad and they should feel bad. Hit. The. Ball!

And maybe get a bullpen that doesn't fall apart after two innings. Skubal can't drag them through the whole series by himself.

The Phillies and the Cubs suddenly woke up too. I'm hoping they can both force a game 5 for maximum chaos potential.

Well done Detroit. I only caught the first few innings when they went down by 3, thought they were dead and buried. Got to be the big favourites now with Tarik lined up.

As for my boys. Flat track bullies, to use a cricket term. Feast on mediocre pitching in the regular season, hopeless once again against good pitching in the postseason. Judge aside (no more a playoff bust) the rest can clear out their lockers. We need to clean house, burn it down and start again.

Boone probably should go even though this was one of his better years. They also need to revamp the major league hitting coaching, find someone who specializes in helping the young hitters progress. A constant stream of our hitting prospects regressing once they get in the team. Volpe and Wells are just the latest.

On that note regarding the Yankees:

I have a feeling Orion Kerkering isn't going to be with the Phillies much longer. That was pretty much the physical embodiment of

The team scoring one run through 11 innings didn't help
But to be fair, both teams were holding each other at bay with good pitching through the majority of that game, from what's being said. I just don't understand how you panic so hard that instead of throwing to first for the easy pickoff, you... fling it so wildly at home that you nearly bean the umpire? The catcher was even pointing at first base, and he still had time to get the ball there.

For sure. Epic brain fart on his part brought on by the panic of the misfield. If he took the ball cleanly, it was an easy toss to home too.

I'd be interested to know what the call would have been if Realmuto did catch the ball. He was well off the plate, but the runner seems to have missed it on the first pass too - would it have been safe on blocking the plate?

Realmuto was pointing to throw it to first base. It was ridiculous for him to throw home when the runner was moving on contact. Even had the throw after the bobble been on target he would still be safe. Play was only to first and nowhere else.

Yeah, none of that is up for debate. But in this alternate universe, if Realmuto catches this (yeah, I know it was REALLY wide)
after the runner (maybe) misses the plate

and makes a tag before the runner comes back to the plate, is it out or safe by interference?

He could be safe by interference if he directly blocked the plate (he left room but he was moving trying to catch the ball, which didn't help matters). Wouldn't matter though as there was no call and the runner touched the plate well before the catch. Even if Realmuto caught it, it would have been a risky play with little payoff. If the batter never reaches first, it doesn't matter how many runners touch home plate. The play was to first with 2 outs and Kerkering panicked.

Tigers-Mariners into the 14th! What a game: but it’s 5:30 am here, I’d like to go to bed so please someone win it!

EDIT - 6:08 am and Polanco send the Mariners to the ALCS.

I'm glad the Tigers didn't roll over. They should've won that game though. They had every opportunity to win that game and Seattle was doing their best to lose it on multiple occasions.

The Tigers need some serious rework this off season. They also should probably deal Skubal in the office season too. They're not going to pay him what he wants and that's if he even wants to be apart of the team. Might as well get a boatload for him instead of nothing when he walks.

Trading Skubal would be more about Scott Boras than Skubal himself given Boras always has been a free agency agent. But if somehow Chris Illitch decides to act like his dad and blank check the team (starting with signing Skubal), they absolutely need to get some more bats and hopefully another pitcher. I don't see that happening though and this very possibly ending even worse than the Verlander trade years ago with Tarik walking and getting nothing at all. Bad as a trade as it wound up, at least they got something instead of nothing at all.

13 strikeouts from Skubal and the Tigers offense couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. The meme I posted about the Yanks just as easily applies to Detroit now.

I guess I'm a Blue Jays fan for the next week :boggled:
Lesser of two evils I guess. Not that they have a hope in hell.

I fell asleep in the 5th and missed all the fun. Will have to catch up later.

Hopefully the Jays didn't burn up everything they had in that game just for the sake of making a statement. It's gonna be mighty annoying if they start rapidly falling apart after game 2.

13 innings into this game and the Jays have used up their entire bench. They almost had it in the 12th when a force out got overturned and the bases were loaded, but they're quickly running out of options and, like I was concerned about, burning up everything they have.

It's spooky season. Of course someone called Vlad is going to dominate.
He may hate my Yankees but I still like him.

SO the Dodgers are on the brink on losing down 3-2. Can they win I hope so. Not a Dodgers fan but as a Yankees fan it is embarrassing that the Yankees were eliminated by Toronto then Toronto beats the same team that beat the Yankees last year. :banghead:
But maybe Hal Steinbrenner will see and actually get upset while sitting on his piles of money earned from said Yankees and decide to go full George Steinbrenner and outspend everyone :lol::lol::lol:

Nah, accountant Hal will say the Blue Jays won with a payroll $50 million less than ours, so we're clearly spending enough already.
