This is something I've been wondering for quite some time; how many people use manual in comparison to automatic. I actually use the manual, because I like having more control over the car.
Anyway, which do you prefer to use?

EDIT: Poll added (obviously)

You need to add a poll :)

I use MT, always have and always will.

Manual of course. Being a drifter, drag racer (sometimes), and a circuit racer (a very bad one I may add), I use manual all the time. There is so much more control of the car and the transmission doesn't change at the wrong moment (example: going into a turn mid-drift and it downshifts or upshifts depending on the speed)

Couldn't agree with you more ha ha. And honestly it feels like its hard to drive now with AT since im so used to MT now.

Manual and no aids, used to use the opposite for a long time though.
It gives you more control and it's definitely interesting on some of those older and/or low powered cars that don't want to shift down or up when they should.

Been playing for about 1.25yrs now and always used Auto, thought it was too late to learn manual.
But the past month have learned and been using manual almost always and do like the control, especially entering corners. And coming out of corners with a high powered car, i'll shift early to try and keep the rear end from spinning around on me.

It took me a while to get the feel of using manual, which is mainly because I only used Automatic when playing without a wheel. Was a bit of a hard mental block to get over. Only when I learned not to look at the rev limiter when shifting did I make it instinctively possible with the DS3.

I use MT for everything except X1 and F1 cars. Too many gear changes too fast

Also, OP should add a poll to this

Manual - I like to row my car around the track. Graham Hill style. Even Karts...

That's exactly what I do, I try making lap times and I never downshift enough in either if those.

Boom. Poll. I just blew your mind.

I used to be automatic in PS1 and PS2 because of the control layout but switched to manual with the much better trigger system on the 360 pad. Stuck with it on the PS3 but it was harder to get used to with the smaller controller and poorer triggers. But yeah, triggers for throttle/brake, face buttons for gears.

When I use my DFGT wheel of course manual.

Manual with all but X1....and I use a controller (sticks, not buttons)....at this point, I'm too used to letting the downshift either slow or help the turn-in on corners to even think about AT

Manual for me too, but I have a qustion for the purists out there. What would you choose if the car you wanted to drive had an automatic transmission irl?

Manual Is the way to go. Honestly, Auto is Horrible in GT5 :\. Well in Electric car Auto is Brilliant, since its only One gear *D*. But Honeslty if im lazy i put my car in 6th with my H Box G27. And just Cruise. Use my knee to keep car straight and turn a tad. And im on the computer on GTPlanet :D. Multitasking D:

Same for me now, the past few months have moved onto manual apart from the F1 cars for the same reason as above.

F1 Cars i pretty simple. If you Played GT Enough then your really used to Shifting Really Quickly Down and Up :D. Its Just practice. And sometimes i always Miss 4th Gear G27 W/Clutch >: ( Damn you Lock 2 Lock
