Manual or automatic?

Manual for me too, but I have a qustion for the purists out there. What would you choose if the car you wanted to drive had an automatic transmission irl?
Personally, I'd still drive it manual, same with ABS. I simply find it more enjoyable that way and that's eventually why I'm playing this game.

You don't really want to go back. If you're used to manual gearing you'll probably do better with manual than with automatic anyway, and visa versa.

I always use "Auto" in order to concentrate on the race.
And I will use "Manual" for cursing and driving leisure.

Manual since GT3. On the rare occasion I am driving the X1 I'll put it into automatic, but the FGT and F1 (don't use very often anyway) will use in manual.

I use both but much more often use Automatic. The reason is that I was getting RSI in my right wrist shifting on the DFGT, as I tend to suffer from this fairly easily I reverted to Auto last year.

The only difference I find is a slight disadvantage because you can't use a higher gear where traction is an issue, say with a 700pp car coming out of a slow corner. That and it takes a lap or two with a new car to get the sound and gear changes right in Manual.

Driving with the manual transmission is easy for me. I hate the lack of control you have with the auto. Using the MT is a must if you are driving a high powered car without TCS. The AT will drop down to first or second gear if you slow down too much and will result in too much wheel spin.

MT is also a good way to eke out the extra few tenths of a second for low powered cars since sometimes it is faster to leave your car in the same gear, or for dropping down a gear if you're lugging your engine.

I agree. Often i will shift into a higher gear when exiting a super tight corner if driving something with a lot of torque.

I use automatic. With a controller, having to also shift gears while dealing with throttle, braking, and steering is just too much to do for me. When I had a wheel, I used manual though.

Manual all the way. Allows me to sprint and conserve when I feel like it.

It just feels odd to have the computer do it for me.

Easy answer...

Manuel with clutch and H pattern shifter (Logitech G27)
I wouldn't have it any other way.

G27 so manual ofcourse! When I was using my DFPro I used the paddles to shift but do not ever use them with my G27 even if the car I am driving has them, the clutch and H-pattern shifter is the only way to go in GT. Besides if you ask Famine it is only auto shift and not an automatic transmision, but I disagree.:dunce:

100% agree with that. I even stay away from cars that you can't use the clutch with (such as Nissan GTR black edition/sls ect.).

It is just tops

Manual:

Sometimes you need to shift early as you exit a turn to avoid wheel spin.

Sometimes you need to shift gears early so the rev limiter doesn't bounce at the end of the straight.

Sometimes you need to know first-hand whether the car will get better turn-in, in a lower gear as you enter a turn.

Sometimes you need to downshift early to hit the higher power-band for a car (i.e. Honda).

Sometimes you need to downshift late to hit the lower power-band of a car (i.e. Nissan R390 Road Car).

manual for life, ds3, real life. I somehow get unfocused using automatic and driving with maual without sound is impossible to me.

Same for me now, the past few months have moved onto manual apart from the F1 cars for the same reason as above.

Stretch the gearing out to a five-speed, much better control and tire wear.

And manual for me as well.

Since I'm still playing with a DS3, I use automatic now. But I plan on getting a wheel in the next month. Once I do that, I'll be moving over to manual.

Manual Gearing! I'm a wheel user so manual and when your using automatic and there is a corner ahead with automatic gearing it might suddenly gear up/gear down so that's why almost everyone use manual :)

I didn't answer the poll because I have a question. I started out using manual when I got the game but I noticed better times using auto and that confused me because I thought manual was faster.
What am I doing wrong?
Please note, I'm very new to tuning so I don't even know where to go with that!
I did just download rabbidmaggot's tunes and applied them to my lancer. Big difference!
Thanks!

I don't really know why automatic is better for you, maybe because when your using manual when going uphill you would use 4th gear or something (just a example). Never really experienced this problem well maybe not problem.
