I have beaten beginer, amatuer, raly couple endurances and 2 pro series. I have use automatic and want to make the switch. What is the easiest way to learn to drive a manual transmition.

well...not neccessarily Halfracedrift, cause me,I was drivin' an Automatic ALL the way through GT3,exepct for the F1 Championship, cause I never did do that one =P!but anyways,I raced my friends with an Auto,I raced the AI with an Auto, did Free Runs with an Auto..hell,I did just about everything with an Automatic so much that I was actually AFRAID to drive a manual, cause it seemed sooooo complicated!I mean hell dude, the first time I ever drifted, was on Midfield Raceway with my Trueno (the original AE86,not the Shigeno Version)!and so..one day,I tried drivin' a Manual, and I spun out, crashed, slowed down soooooo many times that I didn't even wanna try it anymore, but I found myself a couple of weeks later in that SAME position..and I just kept thriving to get better at driving a Manual..so I took the experience that I learned so far,and put that with my low experience of learning how to drive a manual..I mean, hell,I knew what times to brake, when to hit the gas,how to turn..so,all I basically had to cover was shifting in the middle of a turn (or before it) and that was complicated at first, but with practice,I just wanted more!by the way,I think I've pretty much got my gear changing set good,my R2 is to shift up and my R1 is to shift down =D,hehe!but anyways,it just takes time dude..but don't start ALL over, just go into Free Run and practice on any course,well...preferably one that has Tarmac and not dirt, but other than that,it should be fine..so yeah, just practice a lot and if you keep it up,you should see progress within about 2 to 3 weeks I'd say..but that's just me =D,oh and by the way..I can't STAND to drive an Automatic now since I'm so used to drivin' a Manual, hehe

P.S. I hope this posted helped you out at least a lil bit Label =D!

I would say, that whenever you are racing with an auto, when the little red light flashes or your arrow get into the Red Zone on your tacho, that you should push the shift up button. It'll get you into the habit of changing at the right time and you cant really stuff up anything while learning that way. You should also study what gear the auto chooses when coming out of a corner and make sure you change into that gear before entering the corner when you are using a manual.

not ALL the time though, cause I've had the damn Auto transmission tell me to cut the corner in 2nd,and I cleared it in 3rd with a Manual, with ease

just practice on the free runs....

or grab one of ya cars and goto practice/settings and see what u can do.
I have never raced auto., but found manual easy to pick up.

listen to the engines revs so you dont have to watch the taco too much and start with a slow car.

Manual Transmission all the way ;)

A good car to drive is the Racing Astra (i think). When the revs get too high there is a warning noise which makes you change gears pretty quick. It's the only car I have that makes that noise.

mugen S2000 works too
when u hit the first block of redline, you'll start to hear the raspiness of the engine clearer than usual ^_^
you can either use that or just memorize the sound of the engine when you get to redline.
i always do that during a race ^_^ :Poke:

My recommendation is take the car you know the best, turn off the tunes (which I never have on) and listen to the computer shift for a few laps, then take over. It's relatively easy if you know what to listen for, and what to look at.

drive progressively tighter ratios until you're able to pull off a relatively quick run on the Complex String without completely leaving the track with a moderate-handling car (like an Altezza).
when you have no problem keeping up with the transmission, you'll be able to skunk the competition.

thanx for all the help i tried the manual in free run i gotten better since i last tried it. i havent had the courage to go to the races yet but i hope i will soon.

Well I maxed out the speed six and went to the tvr cup. i won with no problam with the manual transmition. Know i see what advantages it has. I won by atleast 20 sec each race. I will never go back to auto. Manual wasnt as hard as i thought it would be

congrats on you wins and your accomplishment of overtaking the Manual challenge ^_^!I hope for a good future in your GT3 carrer with driving a Manual from now on :D
