Great thread

I'm 42, married, and reading this thread just makes me even more relieved we have no kids!

Besides GT5, I play golf Saturday and Sunday morning (when the course isn't under a foot of snow), and I couldn't see me getting away with golf and GT5, and dossing on the couch watching sport if we had a family

I was on holiday last week and did nothing much more than play GT5 and I don't go back until the 4th, so more GT5 this week too (and maybe a round of golf or 2 if the snow clears).

lvl 33 A spec, lvl 34 B spec ;)

Your children must give you a lot back if you're prepared to give up the things you enjoy yourself.

I'm almost 30 and married here. My wife has said on several occasions that she is so sick of getting up in the morning or coming into the house and seeing me playing GT5.

I reply...well since I can't afford all these fun cars in real life (buying stuff for the house, kids on the horizon)...I want to be able to drive these cars somewhere. The nagging usually stops there :)

PS: I even bought her a car to use in GT5 and tried to get her involved, but it didn't work.

I am 29 and married, 2 boys aged 1 and 3, b-spec or d-pad until they go to bed around 20:00 then I flip out the wheel until 23:00 before sleep and work. Its all good. 28 A-spec and 37 B-spec

Nice thread! I'm 37 and married with a 7y old daughter and a 15m old son. I usually play in the late evening and some in weekends. In the first weekend after GT5 was released my wife let me play pretty much all the time because she knew very well how long I'd been waiting for the game to come out. Pretty awesome. I guess my wife is rather supportive in general because she's quite an avid gamer as well (in her case mostly action RPG's and some jump&run style games). If she weren't this supportive I'm sure I wouldn't have all three consoles and a 3D TV right now :D

I'm level 22 A-Spec. Haven't looked at B-Spec much yet. I guess I would have been a few levels higher right now if it weren't for the fact that I haven't been able to play for the past 1.5 weeks.

It's all good. With the right amount of balance I've never had my wife complain about me playing GT5. Perfect :)

Imagine the sum total of all the joy you get from those things. Multiply it by a million. You still aren't close to what a child gives you. My DFP doesn't light up the room when I walk in, my golf clubs don't giggle just because I said "peek-a-boo!" and my entertainment center can't show me the true meaning of 100% completely unconditional love.

I have been like this since my wife met me. She knew what I was then, saw what I have been for the past eight years, and knows what I am now.

My wife bought me my Wheel Stand Pro for my 30th birthday.

I am 25, with a 6 month old. I usually work 45-55 hrs a week, so getting time to play seems nearly impossible.... :(

Yea, I am not so much concerned with violent games warping his brain. I guess you really have to judge by the actions of the child and the maturity level, but int he end it's just a game and as long as they are old enough to realize that, then I don't see an issue.

He is a straight A student, does not get into fights or altercations, and is respectful...well most of the time ;)

My wife on the other hand is not as laid back as I am, and limits his play time to weekend evenings only. School days are all about school, homework, and sports! She does not like the Call of Duty style games at all, but until he gives her a reason to take it away, she defers to me.

Lol, I hear ya, the, now 14, year old kid is also a respectful, straight A student and very mature. When she was 11, I introduced her to Oblivion IV. She took to that game, I later showed her the console and casually mentioned she could make changes to the game. She figured the rest out on her own. Within a couple of months, she was doing her own scripts. I came in one day, and everyone in Cyrodil was running around in their underwear fighting each other because she had put crime gold on all of them. And she had turned clipping off, so she was floating in the air like a ghost shooting everyone with arrows. I created a monster. lol

I tried teaching my 5 year old to play. He had trouble keeping it straight in the Indy race. He has to practice more so he can grind for me, LOL.

Watch out, or he will start demanding payment, then strike if he doesn't get it, lol

All for the better, but surfing the net out of boredom and sleeping in on weekends is gone for at least the next 25 years

Totally true. Good thing is after a while you don't even care anymore about sleeping in. I don't anyway and I never thought that was going to happen.

I have four days off over the new year and would dig some online racing for once. An organized group of mature adults would be nice.

Maybe we should start a married dad's league ;)

a very good idea

I'm 28, married 9 years with a 7 yr old boy and 6 yr old autistic twin boys. Fortunately for me, my boys love watching video games as much as they love playing them. I limit myself to an hour or two a week with them watching, then spend the evening with my wife. She sleeps alot more than I do, so when she goes to bed at around 11 I spend another few hours ripping it up around the track. Of course this comes and goes as seasons, but over the past few weeks this has been my life. I enjoy it, and I con completely relate with you guys in similar situations.

TheMarco,

That sounds like what we need 👍

Foolkiller nailed it with his comment- I would drop every hobby for time with my boy. Once he's in bed for the night, I just want to wake him up to get more quality time. There is no explaining the bond that you can have with your own flesh and blood.

-Hamid

After our daughter goes to sleep and my wife and I have spent some quality time together, she usually turns to me and asks "do you have some racing to do?". This is when I break out GT5 and she goes in the other room to read or takes a late night walk. :)

Peace \/

im in a similar boat but i have 6 month old twins so as you can imagine my gaming time is short im a spec 20 and b spec 16 somehow.

i tend to go on when my mrs goes to bed at about ten telling myself just an hour

great thread...

I had a doughter 2 weeks ago and I have been thoubled over when I would ever find the time to play my Gran Turismo. So it is nice to hear that there are others out there, with kids, who still find the time to play.

Im 33,with two girls's aged 7 and 4,im currently play about a hour a night, the Mrs doesnt mind to much, ill usually watch Tv with her for an hour once the kids have gone to bed and then have a hour gaming time.

I have been wondering lately if im getting abit old for this stuff, but im pleased to see im not alone.:)

What really gets me here is the fact that TS is asking for *married* men .. You can have kids without being married. I don't mean to come across as rude or anything, it just seems strange to point out..

Great thread...as someone said before, I should show it to my wife to prove to her that there are others like me out there.

I'm 36 and have a daughter that just turned 2 years old...the sweetest thing in the world. It's impossible to play with her around and I'd feel guilty trying to do it anyways. I get home between 4 to 5 pm on most days. My wife gets home later most of the time.

From the time that I get home until around 9 o'clock is family time with dinner, bath, story time, bed time...occasionally the girl isn't in bed until 9:30 or so because we love spending time with her...or she's just conning us by being extra adorable.

Then it's time with the wife until around 10:30 to 11. Most nights I'm too tired to start up GT5...which kills me. But when I do get enough energy, I'll end up playing until 1 am...I just can't stop after 30 minutes.

I'm only lvl 17 a-spec...haven't tried b-spec.

When at work during the day or out with my wife and daughter...I'll dream that maybe I'll have time to relax with GT5 when I get home but it rarely happens. I'll peek into my room and just sigh.

I should figure out a way to mount my steering wheel to the elliptical treadmill....that always got me guilt free playtime with other video games....exercising and gaming at the same time is great and my wife is less annoyed by it.

Love women, however they do not understand racing or cars.

I have found that being single and just dating is a far better way for me. I tried to quit the car hobby, I never could get away. Found myself lusting after another blown mustang like it was some sexy model......

I knew then that I was destined to be with cars. I vowed that no women will ever come between me and my deepest uncontrolled passion. A women that loved me would love my passion for racing cars. . someday I may find one that understands. . . hahaha

As for time, single parent of two boys. 7 and 9. I do my racing at 8/9pm till 12am.

My car hobby is something that we do together. I teach my kids many aspects of the hobby, excellent bonding time too. As well my job is running the family CNC shop. So I get to spend a little more time then most at home. I get off at 3pm ;)

If in a realationship you still need to be respectful of others needs and wants. Its a compromise and you gotta be sure what best for you over all.

If you feel trapped and cant be involved with something you have such a passion for then she aint the right one.

Many can walk away from the car hobby and never look back. I fully attempted this in my last relationship. I was miserable on the inside without cars. Found a way out of the situation, one she brought on. I bailed, she dropped kids off and basically the rest is history.

:) Racing is deep with many.

I have been married over 25 years and will be 51 in april and must be very lucky with my wife for xmas she bought me a new open wheeler seat and logitech gt steering wheel i now have my ps3 setup in our cinema room so can play gt5 on a 12 ft by 6ft screen i am well chuffed that my 2 sons age 22 18 are at least 10 seconds of my best times i play about an hour a night.

I didn't know there was so many of us! Im 30, married with a 3 year old and a newborn. I only have time to play a couple of nights a week after my oldest gets off to bed. It usually ends up being a binge session of 4 to 5 hours, and I pay for it the next day. And i usually get so tired while im playing i start driving like a fool.

My wife used to make fun of me for all the set up i do to get my DFGT ready in our living room. (have to drag the kitchen table through the house) Now she helps me get it set up and she wants to get me a wheel stand pro.

Good to hear from other husbands/fathers. Raising the next generation of GT fans!

I am 29, father of 2 (will be of 3 as of May). I finished pretty much all of amateur and beginner a-spec with either of my boys in my lap with the wheel setup I have.

I get an hour a night on GT at most, weekends occasionally if I get the rest of the family to nap at the same time :)

I just try not to take the game too seriously as I do find it quite addictive...

Looks like there's enough interest to start a dad's league. Awesome!

I'll be happy to try and coordinate things next week when I get back home. If someone else wants to start before that time that's fine with me too! :D

I'm in too for dad's league. :)

I'm 28, my boy is 2 1/2.

I haven't played any console games for about 5 years (I bought a PS2 to play GT4 and then sold the whole thing when I'd finished with the game). I did a heap of overtime recently and talked my wife into letting me get a PS3 and GT5 as a Christmas present for myself (and then I sneakily went out and bought a DFGT too).

I get home about 6pm, play with the boy, put him to bed, and then either set up the PS3 or watch TV with my wife. I get a couple of hours in maybe 5 nights a week.

Currently I'm doing the whole "move kitchen table into the living room" thing but yesterday I started an attempt at making a "cockpit" out of my son's old high chair. It kind of worked, but is a little bit dodgy!

Over the Christmas break I've had a bit more GT5 time, however if the wife is in the mood to watch a movie I'll leave the PS3 in the box and spend the night with her instead.

Family always comes first, but I'm often thinking about GT5 when I'm with them. :)

I posted in here fella but my Fiancée and myself are not married, we have been together for 15 years though so as near as can be.

We will tie the knot someday.:)

well if anyone wants to add me they can do and we will get some racing together( after my other half is off modern warefare 2 lol)

psn name tupacbrownbear

Don't think it should be for married men. The league can be for anyone, of any gender for that matter even though I haven't seen any moms with kids playing GT on here who has a family with kids.
