Matchmaking (improved) back for GT5

I used to race GT5:Prologue online all the time because it was just so easy to get into a race and just race.

With this current system, I rarely race online just beacuse it is a big pain.

I really want PD to put back in a "matchmaking" system where they have like 4 matchmaking race events to choose from which change every week/other week.

I wouldn't want matchmaking to replace the current system, but definitely want to see it brought back as an option.

I really liked those on-line events that changed every week or so too.

Kaz actually told a website right after GT5 was released, that they were working on matchmaking and that it would be in an update soon. Guess they're still working on it... or changed their minds.

It would be great with some sort of system based on skill, kind of how FFS would match people based on there ability which was achieved in game based on your race results while online.

It would also be good to be matched with your friends if they happened to be using the matchmaking system while you was. As we are limited to 100 PSN friends. it would also be good to have additional friends system within GT5, with no limit. So if you came accross a good racer, you could say befriend him within GT5 and possibly always be able to join a room he is in, or be matched with the matchmaker.

To get around this problem of racing with as many good guys as possible, without the need to be friends with 100 people, or for those 100 people to all be friends with each other so that it is possible for everyone to join each others Private Lounges I have done this.

using the above system, you only need to have a few PSN GT5 friends, but can have access to 100s racers via private lobbies that are always full. I run a similar private lobby set up and my lobbies are full every night with guys racing. All audited and all private.

If you want to go crazy, you could even make specific accounts/lounges for specific types of racing. like account. GT5_700PP for 700pp racing only etc (accounts never have to be online which is the magic)

Public lobbies are a no no for me. I pretty much always have bad experiences

I've had a lot of really good experiences with pub rooms - usually w/ something like ''clean or kick'' in the title, but not always.

Then there are the times I wonder why I'm wasting my time with these untalented children who are taking out their pent up sexual frustrations on my car's rear bumper into turn one..
-or desperately trying to bock me when I'm 12 seconds faster / lap...
-or ramming me off the road as I try to make a clean pass and get along side..
-or get angry when I do make a clean pass and spend the next 3 corners trying to commit suicide by plowing into me at full speed from 50 feet behind me as I brake normally and turn into the corner... sheesh, that's not obvious or anything. :-/

But I don't like to race at a set schedule because then it starts feeling like work, and I'm sure as hell not starting another GT5 profile just to put "GTP" or anything else in front of my name. Oh well.

Take a look at what I posted above, you do not need to start afresh. Just create a new account. call it whatever you like load up GT5 on it, then get all of your friends to add the account including yourself and tell them to only join the Lobby of that account only when looking to race online. (the account never needs to be online as can join the lounge when the account is offline)

So if you have 100 friends, then all 100 will have access to this private lounge. Now you have a private lounge with 100 racers that have access to it all of which can be audited etc.

Only problem I really see in your system (the same problem we currently have as well) could be that if I would search and many rooms with the same specs came up and I chose one, there would be no guarantee that most (or enough) guys would pick the same room. That could possibly leave me in an emptier room than is needed as the guys wanting the same thing could be spread out to more rooms than would be necessary.

I don't think that would happen in my system. You would sometimes get repeat rooms, just like you do now. But, with my system, everyone would see all the repeat rooms and be able to choose between them (instead of randomly finding 1 or 2 of them, and not knowing that the others exist).

My experience online says that rooms fill up more quickly the larger they are, so I'd think most people would just go for the biggest room (and in this case, so would you if you wanted a large room), until it's full, then the next biggest, etc. Also, being able to search would probably cut down on the number of repeat rooms.

The only way to really get stranded in a room is if all the rooms that meet your criteria are empty (or equally full with a low number of people) and you choose one that isn't popular. That probably won't happen too often.

Still, these don't rule each others out as I see it.

Agree. They could easily coexist.

Online Endurance Team Racing.
Need I say more?

A four hour online event involving 16 drivers made up of 4 teams. Starting driver takes hour one. You are in the pits waiting, in the exact same car for him to pit. You take hour two, etc. If you drop your connection then you get a DNF.

Rewards would be substanstial, GTP teams would form. This is the direction I'd like online racing to go. Of course, we can set this up today in our lobbies. I'd just like to see endurance team drivers rather than...
Everyone man for himself, 1 lap Tsukuba, racing softs, Evora vs. S2000.

Why not just use the online racing forum?

Regarding a separate friends list, I doubt that would happen. It seems as if the friends system in the game only is something only back in the Ps2 days, as Ps3s launch titles with online had it (Resistance Fall of Man to be specific) and it was a good system. But as PSN developed the system used the PSN friends list (in the sequel)
I know these games are two different genres, but they both have similar online infrastructures and are Sony IPs.
Although I am hoping that a friends list in the game would be implemented, I wouldn't bet on it.
